Roleplaying

If there's one thing I enjoy it is roleplaying, but that's such a general term. No one ever really talks about roleplaying as a theme, usually just within the parameters of whatever rp they are in at the time. So I ask, what is this roleplaying we all know and love so much? What makes the difference between good rp and bad rp? Personally I like to think of it as collab storywriting, though it doesn't quite hit the nail on the head. As someone naturally detatched from reality, I'm usually approaching things from all kinds of different angles in RPs. Anyone who's stuck around with me can probably tell my different styles in character and even in stories. What makes a good RPer? And for people who don't even play the RPs, what do you think about them? I've heard that some people just aren't into that sort of thing, but for something that can be so varied it seems hard not to find any interest.

When ever I make an RP I have a set story which i Don't like to deviate from, I prefer story to action in an rp .A good rp to me a good rp is when people are fully engaged in a story and characters they lose track of time.In my opinion a good Rper is someone who contributes to the rp by thinking outside the box getting that"wow i wouldn't have thought to do that" reaction also have a character with depth and complexity breathing life into the RP (something i'm working hard to do) just my thoughts

For me, its about a whole lot of different things. A gm should be well-literate, and unafraid to give details about the situation; as well as coming up with traps or obsticals now and then. The story itself should be interesting enough for people to get a good image of the place, as well as their purpose in said world, but not enough for people to lose their imagination and thus their interest. For the players, i prefer people who are unafraid of writing long posts, as well as people that know well what their character can -and most importantly, can't do. This keeps meta- or godmoding at bay, as well as giving character development a chance, a thing i think is really important in any rp.
Also, i think that a good character build can make or break any rp, especially when played right.
Rp's themselves i find rather interesting due to my nature to act, to deceive and to fake. All my life i've worn masks to please people; to act like they want me to act. I find myself to be a rather shallow, empty and groggy husk, but no matter. The rp's are a way for me to 'train' as it were, said masks, as well as living a little dream outside this world.
Oh boy, this ended rather personal D:

RPing to hone one's skill to remain a part of society? Interesting.

That's how I think of roleplaying, I also think of it like a bunch of people playing pretend (like we used to when we were little kids), but with people who know what they are talking about (sometimes) and know how to write a good story.
I am an independent writer, I have learned from other writers I have been with, and I have a very creative mind. I also prefer playing the roll of a female, because IMO, males get boring to play, we are so simple to understand with just about every personality type. Females are a lot more complicated, and I have most of my knowledge from examining them back in my school days.
(Like lab rats if you want me to sound like a douchebag >:D) But those are just teenage girls, and I do mess up playing women and make them too horny in the wrong way.

In High school I was the biggest guy around and also the biggest asshole around and got my tatoo back when getting them made you look tough instead of cool but I still got in fights and courses/anger management never helped, but all my rage and fighting got me to work as security/bouncing so I get to use my anger and I get paid for it, but still Pacifism sounds like a hard lifestyle

Its actually supposed to be the opposite. It works better now that I am out of highschool, but growing a pacifist was hell. Your just an open target to them, but no hate, and no violence makes life so much happier.

People were too afraid to mess with me, but I didn't go out looking for fights. If someone tried to intimidate me, I'd just stand there and be like, "Well? I'm waiting." And the few times people actually hit me it felt like nothing so I just ignored them. Feel no pain, hold no anger.

You two are much more self disciplined than me and that's a trait I admire, someone hits me that's it I'm a semi-truck without brakes filled with rage
