Forum Administration/Moderation

I had been very pre-occupied last semester with university related matters and hadn't been as active as I would have liked to be. I want to follow up on a few things that are forum related such as updating some of the rules, re-organizing some parts of the forums etc. I have noticed some requests here and there that I want to bring up with Renara over the holidays. I figure since I want to bring up a few changes with him I might as well ask around what other people want though this doesn't mean it will be granted etc. So feel free to make suggestions here in the mean-time!

A way to talk to other members in a RP in real time. Also just because don't trust people it would be nice to that a 10 post count at least limit.

I agree with Bluelight. I was thinking an IRC if your server can handle it. To reduce lag (and trolls/spammers) only registered users with 10+ posts should be allowed access to it.

Edit;
That's what we did in other forums, because other RPers had limited forums, so to decrease post count they did combo posts via IRC, PM, or Email.

@Blue. Well you could always skype people.
I'd suggest having a new thread where players can introduce them selves for the people under 10 posts, I'd also suggest letting them post in certain threads only. Such as General and Creative Corner. I would not suggest Roleplay because everyone else would have to wait for the person to post.

That's what I was just talking to Silver about. He was a bit confused when he joined because he is used to full out character sheets with pages of a backstory, combo posting to avoid spam, and a introductory thread for himself and his characters.
When I joined, I was a bit confused because the OOC and the IC are in the same place lol (and at the end of the title). It might be a bit more work, but a new layout for the creative corner, and a introductory thread for new people would be great.
- Code: Select All Code
Rules
Creative corner > Character corner > (Character pages go here, include backstories, appearance, etc)
IC Threads > (IC Threads in here)
OOC Threads > (OOC Threads in here)
That is similar to how it was in other forums I've been in.

Edit;
However, sorting through all of the IC and OOC threads will be a bitch, so that might not happen. The character corner and the introductory topic for new players however, should be thrown in. Some places have one thread, some places have one thread each.
@Blue, Skype does work. I was going to say it would be a bitch to edit/copy, but a IRC would be the same way XD

Regarding real-time chat; my web server is hosted, so I'm limited by what's on offer, there are some PHP chat-room/shoutbox style things but I've never been a huge fan of them personally. I can set up Jabber, anyone know if that can be/is easy to use for for group-chats? What other IM services support ad-hoc group-chats; I know MSN does, and I think AIM too, might be easier if GM's just declare or arrange an IM service that everyone should get an account for?

Google chat is one I use, however its frustrating to copy everything and group chats are a pain.
Yahoo would be a great one if Yahoo wasn't so glitched on my computer atm.
I could get a AIM.
MSN chat is... horrible.
and those are the main IM chats I use, other then Steam, and xfire.

So google, Steam, and skype are the ones i have accounts with.
I would personally wouldn't want to use Steam since it's my personal account and i don't want to friend people and then go on a 48+ hour gaming and have the find out what to much video games does to my brain and friend... Haven't had a 48 hour one in years.
Google i have a second one for this forum and my projects. I'm fine using that and privacy mode is off the conversation should be sent to are email automatically.
Skype i would rather not use compare to google since it's just a pain on my windows 7 computer to shut off. Might be the OS since i don't remember it being so annoying on vista.(I guess vista did have it's better side.)

I think Google chat is a Jabber service, so the issue is probably mostly whatever client you use. I'm a fan of multi-protocol clients as most official ones are awful, so I use Adium on the Mac, I think Pidgin is a cross-platform client that's similar, and I'm sure there are others, so I'd definitely recommend looking at some cross-platform clients! If we can get a list of preferred clients and services then we could probably handle real-time chat with a sticky topic in the role-play forum so it's as easy to set-up as possible?

All that real time chat mixing with the forum posting sound incredibly confusing... I could easily sort out all the character sheets from my RP's though. I usually have them saved on my computer anyways. Some people just break the rule though and make a third thread for their character sheets.

and a fourth for the lore.
The idea is the real time chat would be used for stuff like sex scene. As for rooiehaan idea i have no clue. It all depends how embedded stuff works and i personally just know what the out come is and not the inner workings..

Heads up i have found a great way to RP in real time. Google documents. Make a document that is public to edit and then watch as you start bashing each other in real time... what you didn't think we were going to RP like that did you?

Ya, me, Silver, and Blue did it on his open document, its similar to IRC, and more like a colab story writer.

Suraru Wrote: colab story writer.
well thats what it's design for. So more than 1 person can edit a document at a time.

A basic ability to use [SPOILER] tag would be helpful for RP's.
It would compress the text that only needs to be used once.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):
I think I've added some basic spoiler tags. Sorry they're not a bit more functional, but hopefully they'll do!
