Say, if you require some good pieces of fiction to wipe off the... filth of Cupcakes, there are a few that I would recommend very much.
Fallout: Equestria (Note: Long. Very, very, long.)
http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/04/story-fallout-equestria.htmlSummary from Equestria Daily: "Fallout. With ponies! Set in an alternate future, one pony must learn to survive in a blasted, poisoned land... and possibly, with the aid of friends made along the way, bring new light into the darkness of post-apocalyptic Equestria."
Progress (Note: Borderline cloppy at times. For one side story,
definitely cloppy. Same for the above, actually. They really don't show up that often though, and are hardly explicit.)
http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/05/story-progress-luna-versus-microwave.htmlSummary from Equestria Daily: "A thousand years is quite the generation gap, so Princess Luna decides she has to get with the times. However, this isn't quite as easy as she thinks it will be..."
Fo:E is honestly not only the best fanfiction I have ever read, it is also one of the best
pieces of literature I have read (excluding the true greats of course- Kkat is great, but not Tolkien great). It draws the reader into the post-apocalyptic wasteland better than the games did, and some of the horrors that may have been glazed over by thinking "it's just a game" show their true worth. Progress is much shorter, and far more lighthearted than Fo:E, and has provided a great number of mini-memes to the community- most notably Luna's abacus. All in all, both are great reads.
Also, Octavia is the best pony. Just saying.
