A way to talk to other members in a RP in real time. Also just because don't trust people it would be nice to that a 10 post count at least limit.

Ya you are mistaken about what i said. I don't blame you since half the time i post my post are illegible to even me. (Stupid brain that doesn't check what he types)
There is a required 10 post to basically do anything on the forum freely.
It would be nice for that to be added to a chat program so new users can't spam.
As for 10 post a day would be annoying since you don't know how long a conversation is going to take.
It isn't a replacement for forum post.

I feel like a jerk asking for something again.
Right now i am looking for chat programs to embed in to the site for us RP folk. This is what i got so far but i've only been looking about 5 miuntes

As a admin i believe you could enable HTML on one lock thread if you wanted to. There also seems to be a PHP way of doing it.

Not a fan of chatboxes as described before, they add to many problems from both an administration point of view, as well as a moderating point of view in that we can't baby sit what is said in a chatbox which could lead to a lot of butthurt drama. Ultimately like all things its up to Renara, but I am staunchly against it.

Okay so in regard of making a better idea i will ask this.
Do you have a better suggestion on how to handle RP items that really just need 2 parties to talk to each other.
I personally only use 2 IM's Skype and Google.

Going to just quickly make a summary of what I said last time regarding chat-boxes so that others who haven't had the opportunity to see my reasoning will be in the loop. I have helped do some administration on minor websites that were not the Legend of Krystals Forum, so it is mostly experience based opinion here and has no bearing on what other people may have dealt with. This is also not an official endorsement from the other moderators or the administrator Renara.

In the two separate forums I had run in the past, chat-boxes tend to mess up databases a lot and had to be purged on a regular basis which is a lot of extra work. The majority of the comments were about ponies, youtube links, and what not, which could be just done in normal threads to begin with. The other issue is that most chat-box clients tend not to have multiple channels, which will have people talking over one-another.

There is of course the issue of moderating abuse, as well as we can't moniter it 24/7 which could lead to problems, for example if someone posts child porn etc.

That being said I know of a few websites that have multichannel chat-boxes that have control from the administration point of view so I will look more into that. I can see the potential for the good sides such as having people lead discussion for help in coding, animating, pixel art, the usual. There are other things to, but as a pure RP tool I rather not since the forums aren't just about role-playing as a lot of the suggestions I have received over the holidays think lol. That being said trying to accommodate people to the best of our abilities is something the moderating.administrating team wants to do. I'll wait for Renara to sound in on this one though

But that being said can you think of a way that doesn't limit people and real time communication can be used?

Also going back the Chat box real quick. (If you don't want to answer this i am totally cool with that.)
I don't pretend to know how real time chat works but i looked for something that embeds and i believe what i gave a link to should do that. Wouldn't that stop the data error?
People talking over each other is a different matter yes. I don't have a easy solution and that could spell trouble. The only thing i could think of is hope every one waits their turn... *Epic fail about to happen*
The moderation the only thing i could think of is limit it so only people with 10 post or more can use it.

i use the site called chatango if there is some one who is a member you can make a group chat then easily add moderators to it as well as it's real time the only person who really needs a profile is the person who makes the chat others can just use Anon type which can be banned if needed, as well as putting a name for the time your there, if more info is wanted i be happy to if this is a waist then go ahead and say so as well thank you for your time.

I can't find my earlier post, it might have been deleted with the a thread when I did some cleaning a while back. Either way it will always be up to Renara, as I said he deals with the actual administration. The thing is that most of the people advocating for the chat function want it for role-plays and not much else. There are clients out there that allow for off-forum chatting in a real time environment, and programs like mIRC, which even has incorporated dice rolling system, character sheets, etc. Other than that there is a pm system in place for those one or two line questions anyway. So I don't see what role a chat-box would fulfill beyond being something for instant responses without knowing who to ask, however then again you can also just make a thread. So I find it redundant but once again its my opinion. Thats all

Yep. I personally don't know if i want people abusing the chat system and mods aren't on enough as it is.
The RP section is really unruly also.

I think that the best way is probably to leave the choice of chat-system up to whoever is starting the role-play; I wouldn't mind maintaining a list of preferred chat services so people know where to go to get an mIRC client or such. But I think it's more something for the role-play thread creator to decide what's the best fit for their role-play, as I don't think there's any one chat service I could host that would suit everybody, and as I say, the choice for the site is really between PHP chat/shoutbox scripts (the forums are already pretty heavy on traffic already) or third-party, off-site services, which role-play creators can easily manage themselves I think.

Not that it's a bad idea at all, but I think the options of what I can do through the site with regards to chat-room functionality is too limited, and a bit high on management when there are tons of good options out there. So, if anyone comes up with a list of the best services for role-play needs then I (or Thaedael) could always put up a sticky so people know where to go to set up the required clients and accounts, then should cover people's needs.

@Taria "Ravenlord just breaks the rule though and makes a third thread for their character sheets." Fixed that for you, Its really funny to use "some" considering no one else but me does that. Also keeping sheets were people have easy acces makes it more usable instead then just copying them to my computer. People can keep track of their progress easier.

@Bluelight I admit, i hoped that it would be place for players to go Creativity mode on at Lore thread but seeing that it isnt attracting attention i may well just copy the posts and PM a mod to delete it. Alright, i wil copy it and after that Taria can delete it if she wants.

Other than that, a chat system would be nice though not necessary ATM as most of us can go skype or MSN.
