The Beer and Alcohol Thread (and related stories)

Postby OmegaScales » Thu Mar 06, 2014 7:37 pm

I've been thinking of making this thread for a while, and now I have. So if you want to share a recipe or tell everyone about a beer, brewery, other alcoholic drink, or alcohol related story, this is the place! I'll start.

So, I recently went to a microbrewery near Lafayette, New Jersey called Angry Erik Brewing, and they have some pretty good stuff (even though they only have three beers currently). The owner/founders (Erik and Heide Hassing) use cardamom in the porter, which they found out a little late is the THIRD MOST EXPENSIVE SPICE IN THE WORLD. It's damn worth it though. They also make a West-coast style IPA, but I personally liked the amber ale (Ravøl) best.
And from an article about the opening day,
"In true Scandinavian fashion, it snowed on the grand opening of Lafayette’s Angry Erik Brewing.
A lot.
That didn’t stop hundreds of curious patrons from stopping by during the Feb. 15 event. Angry Erik Brewing opened its doors to the public for the first time and offered up a taste of their first two beers." 500 people (as i heard from Erik). Only about 70 permitted in the premises (small section of a warehouse) at a time. A lot of snow. Fucks given = zero.

Reviving the alcohol thread? Sure.
Just a note; Drinking isn't a good thing, seriously. Even if it's more healthy than taking drugs then it has much of downsites anyways. But no one cares anyways and people will keep drinking anyways.

In general we try to keep the topic off of anything illegal. Renara fears the spiders!

Yeah that's what I thought.
I'm afraid of spiders too but how is that relevant?

Internet spiders are sorta scary. I don't worry too much about them, but that's one of our determinants for keeping illegal materials (mostly pirated content) off our site.

I saw that a new drug bot posted only a couple hours after the creation of this thread, and that was my main reason against it. If you want to (tastefully) make a thread on drugs in general, you can. Ground rule: no links to external sites.

I don't mind spiders too much. Most aren't actually a threat to- WAIT, that's off topic.
...
So, my family homebrews. Anyone else?

My family and I went up to Connecticut this weekend to visit my grandparents. While up there, we tried some Beer'd Brewing stuff (I think I liked the 8 Days a Week best), and picked up some B.F. Clyde's cider to bring home.

I was incredibly wasted at my brother's birthday party and downed anything they gave me, it started with Vodka and cream soda, and then turned into white wine and orange juice. I'm more than sure everyone was either stoned, drunk, or some other third thing. The party got so bad, someone took some acid and backed a car into the house. It was great.

Ahriya, sounds like a party that I had to pick up my roommate from in college. You've got to be careful in those situations.

Now, one of my friends once was making "screwdrivers" for us with this good vodka one of my friends brought back from Belarus. Except she forgot it was 2:1 orange juice to vokda, not the other way around. The vodka was so good you couldn't really feel the burn. Man, we got so drunk that night... somehow i ended up in bed with that friend from Belarus. Ended up dating her for three years and only didn't get married because she wanted to move back to Belarus after college. I still wonder what would had happened...

Recently me and my roommates found a 60+ year old bottle of Gordon's vodka in his attic. His grandparents collected old bottles and this one was mostly full. It was the best vodka I will ever have in my entire life. And never again will I taste such glory.

First, let me go back almost a month ago: My friend worked a ten hour shift on his 21st birthday (Nov. 19), then came over to my house. I had sake and a few other alcoholic drinks for him to try. I heated up the sake, having him try it at different temperatures. We like it so much that we have some every time he comes over.

Okay: A couple days ago, he was in a Chinese restaurant near where he works. There is a small refrigerator in there with some beers. He didn't want to come over with just twisted tea or something "boring", and that's when he saw this one from Du Claw. He takes it, and the cashier is just grinning. She rings him up, and he comes on over, and we enjoyed some sake and Funk.
