Game Mods

Why the hell not, right?

Anyways, I'm playing fallout 3 with
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

all the DLC,
RH_Ironsights,
Wanderer's Edition,
Undiscovered Capital,
Mart's Mutant Mod,
DarNified UI
Project Beauty,
Weapon Mod kits,
and a helluva lot of plugins for those mods.
All of them are good mods IMO, I like them go, so check them out. Bitch to install, but I have a working load order if anyone has the exact same loadout as me. Playing Fallout on medium settings with a 2.0 GHz processor, 2.75 usable RAM, 256MB VRAM, and a 2GB cache card, it runs smoothly enough.

However, all of these mods (save for Iron Sights) are claimed as stable, but it crashes more frequent the more you play the game. And I mean it's a steep incline, at first, no crashes, them maybe one or two here and there once in a blue moon, now at the end of the game it crashes pretty often. Most crashes are one of a kind ones (as in they only happen once, you can do the same thing that caused the crash twice, and it won't crash the 2nd time), but this last quest is a bitch!

First I had to go back to a save half way across the wasteland on my way to start the quest "Take it Back!" because every time I waited (using the wait menu) or went inside another cell, it crashed. So I had to ditch my quick save, and luckily I had a autosave (although half way across the wasteland, and I have fast travel disabled).

But now on the last quest of the (main) game, it crashes almost every two minutes as liberty prime marches forward. First it was if you stayed behind fighting enclave and the robot got too far ahead, it would crash. Then I once got really far, to the 2nd gate, and it crashed. But that's the furthest I've gotten, and I've only gotten there once.
Now I just keeps crashing every time he gets across the bridge. Sometimes I die... ok a lot of times I'd die (but I'm playing on hard), but the crashing is so frequent! I mean I keep trying to have an epic charge playing Beautiful Death by Torus (via my phone anda line in), but it's starting to piss me off, I've been doing the same thing for an hour now.

Oh I get it!, the challenge isn't surviving to get to the purifier, no, you have a giant fucking robot that kills everyone standing in your way.
The real challenge is trying to get the game to not crash...

God dammit, what was the purpose of this thread?
Oh yeah! What other good mods do you know about for any game (not just fallout)?

I know a couple of Minecraft mods; SDK's mods, Equivalent Exchange, IC2, Buildcraft, The Aether mod, etc.

They're all a lot of fun if you liked Minecraft.

Uh, I has over 9000 mods on my minecraft.

For me, half the fun was installing them to work.
This was before modpacks though, back in beta, or maybe alpha is when I started with mods and modding.
I stopped playing weeks before it came out though.

Skyrim mods are pretty awesome.
You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I get and beat you with until you realize who's in command around here.

Skyrim doesn't have the Sex mods like Oblivion had. I'm thinking about learning to mod for skyrim so i might make a master plug in like Skyrim.

Modding for games using the engine pretty easy, I think they us C++, and all it's all in a game editor program, which make mod files that can be used like DLC.
In fallout it's called GECK, but I know there are ones for Oblivion and Skyrim. They really make their games easy to mod, and even release nerfed Dev programs to assist modders in making modding easier.

They also have a manual/tutorial for using it too, and it's freeware!

So ya, learning wouldn't be that hard.

If we're including rom-hacks in this, then I've gotta say that MageKnight404's Fire Emblem hack is really fun to play. It has several cameo characters from other games, anime, etc, plus a few original characters that represent MK404 himself, and a few other users he knows. The game itself is more or less a re-telling of the original FE7 story, but to me, the extra characters, funny dialogue, and overall fun gameplay make up for it. :P

For some video footage of the hack, click here.
