Roll 3
Once again she charges in, proving the difference in speed, this time dodging your strike and... running her fingers down your arm reveals she has, actual physical, claws. She stands up, showing the crimson on the tip of her claws, though the cat scratches down your arms are proof enough of that, before she licking the color off, "First blood... Seems a bit boring doesn't it? How about, since the score is all tied up, we change the rules a bit and settle things in a proper showdown. No first blood. No first to be knocked to the floor. This time it's tap out, knock out, or submission hold for ten seconds."

I struggle to deal with the addition of her claws, and her intense speed. I'll definitely need to work on that, assuming I can. I nod to the smaller woman, switching back to the full fingered slashes, the same way I did the day before. I can't tell if the attempted alteration is what cost me most of my speed or if it was simply her experience. Still, it shouldn't take long to make a decision either way.

Roll 3
Unfortunately she decides to change things up, instead slicing her own arm open with her claws. The blood spray slows... before collapsing into a spear. The, as fast as a bullet, flies towards you. Instinctively dodging, you don't quite make it. It catches you in the chest. It strikes you in the chest... no... slips right by? You don't have time to figure out what happened as she takes the opening to charge you, not even try to stop your strike. Your air blade slices through her flesh but she doesn't seem to notice. She jumps up, her claws digging into your collar. In a moment you feel yourself being lifted off the ground. You bounce off the ground, but quickly recover, as she stands your former spot... the blood spilled from the exchange orbiting around her in rings. Damn, she's been holding back this whole time!

I feel my eyes narrow, my vision distorting slightly as adrenaline really floods me for the first time. I get back to my feet watching the blood orbit her. Either some kind of blood magic, or simply some variant of liquid manipulation? Still, there's little to nothing I can do about that right now. Considering just the kind of danger she's been posing, I decide to go for a much more aggressive approach, shifting my mind to prepare to take an attack of some kind to close with her and engage either her head or heart. Shrug that off, I think to myself, trying to set up how I want to move, either for a full grip on the head/face, or to ram my fingers into her chest toward her heart.

Roll 4
The ring of blood forms a shield to block your blow, which you manage to punch through... However it quickly reforms, gripping your arm, before pulling you to the floor. She wraps her arms around your neck and remaining arm in triangular choke, clearly trying end it here and now.

Being pulled tightly between the two grips, I struggle, trying to see if I can just purely muscle my way through, or bash her against the ground hard enough to make a difference.

Failing that, I put full force against the blood magic, seeming to be weaker, and break that arm loose, bringing it around to try and create a blade.

Roll 7
Despite your best efforts, and bucking her like a wild bull, she holds firm, and keeps you from staying off the ground. The blood magic on the other hand struggles to hold on as you constantly break free, though it keeps trying to grab you. Still... she is in a difficult position to hit, your own body and joints limiting your ability. At the very least, your struggling means you don't have to worry about the ten second count down... though you might pass out if you can't get out.

With my mind fading, I focus on how she's holding me, looking to dislodge her arms or legs rather than inflict damage. Regardless of a healing factor, there are mechanical limits to how much damage a body can take, right?

Unfortunately you don't get the chance test out the limit of her durability as the time until you pass out was much shorter. Snapping back to consciousness, you see the Captain talking to a bunch of other soldiers, including the ones that were ran out to make room for your little fight. Noticing you woke up she takes a few steps toward with a grand gesture, "And the star recruit rises!"

I test my physical response, hoping I'm back to near full ability. If I am, I hop up onto my feet, shaking out my head before I glare at the Captain and shrug.

Captain Vallis walks up you, before asking in a surprisingly caring tone for someone who just beat the shit out of you and choked you out, "So how you feeling after being roughed up. Hope you don't take it too hard, but I can't let raw recruits letting things get to their head... And raw might be the term for you. Were you... recently mutated? You got a lot of powers, but you don't seem to even be aware of half of them. And you don't seem all that use to fighting either... not to mention your lack of a proper weapon?"

"Secondary mutation with mana exposure, and I was... not in a position to pick and choose what equipment I brought with me. It was hard enough finding clothing." I mention, shrugging it off, as just an aspect of training, which it likely is. Still, "Proper combat skills, planning, and practice are all on my 'to do' list, but I've just arrived."

"You must been caught up into some interesting shit then. Regardless, you don't need to worry about that. From what I saw you'll easily be able to handle your own with some polish... especially bringing out your magic. You didn't really use it to it's full potential, only really using it to buff and then that once you dodged a strike with a shadow step... Can't say I'm too familiar with shadow magic, but I can still you started at least. It seem to be a mana pool issue, since you're practically endless," She explains.

"Hm? No, my mana pool runs low fairly often, it's why I keep having to eat these cores..." I say, holding one up, but 'feeling' internally and realizing that she's right, and I'm not low on mana at all. "Oh. Never mind then. Must be another change or something. Anyway, it's difficult to master, and I've been trying to focus. But... the secondary mutation messed with a bunch of my senses and magics, and I'm not for sure how they work. But, at least my muscles still bend, right?"

"If that was you running low..." She mutters, "Anyways, shadows are a bit tricky. They're mostly a utility magic, allowing for stealth, defense, and a form of transportation, but do have some offensive options. What you used was a shadow step, which shifts you out of the way of a blow. That probably will be the thing to start with... though as I recall I did interrupt you while you were getting some food. Want to take a break and get lunch? I'll pay."

My new, flat, and frankly fabulous, stomach growls in agreement before I agree with her. As I haven't actually gotten low on mana since I've gotten this body, I put the core back in my sack to use as currency at a later date. I do take a moment as we head out for food to think about the various changes on my new body. So far, my mana usage seems to have plummeted to the point where if I'm not consciously using it, I won't actually run out. Still, I do need to secure more cores... and armor... and weapons... and everything else it seems.

She once again taps on some things on her wristband and along the wall of the arena, right where you entered, the portal reopens to the street you were at before meeting Vallis. "Come on, just let me know what catches your fancy and I'll buy it. You want street food or a proper restaurant?"

I glance down at myself, checking. While I don't FEEL tired, there's the possibility of being super sweaty. If I'm not, I go for the restaurant, either way I proceed to attempt to deplete their entire stock.

You are not too sweaty... which is kind of surprising since this is Texas and with the almost completely loss of air conditioners, you'd think you'd be dripping in it. Still you get taken to something you never thought you'd be able to eat again... STEAK! Proper T-bones cooked to perfection! As you proceed on your fifth 25 oz steak, Vallis comments, "Remind me to never offer to pay again."

"Now why would I do that?" I say around a mouthful of the bloody meat, the rare meat almost seeming to be raw, but I blame that on how long it's been. Maybe I should do a batch of ribeyes? Yes, it's been some time, I should definitely make sure that I have a little of each.
