As you exit, you spot Mara with a spear pointed at you, before she recognizes you and lowers it. Well... you suppose she's at least taking being part of your household properly. Fynn is a little bit obsessive, so it's no surprise that she ran herself to exhaustion, maybe you could query Mara about what happened or tell her she's got a week to get ready to be a mommy? Checking in with your mother should also be good, maybe bring her back around to show her the general plan Fynn is working on. And that she's going to have nine grand children in a week.

"So what did Fynn run herself ragged over after I left?" I question her. She'll figure out the acceleration quite quickly I'd imagine, so why waste the effort on a breeding slave?

Putting the spear aside, she gestures to the various tables and strange machines set up. "I'm not sure, I've seen some of these before, but not like this." You recognize the same gun barrels from before, but they've got small nubs hanging off of them with a few tiny blades. It's certainly not dang... ah, they align with the gun barrel to show. Scattered around these is a very large number of strange bits of metal in a wide variety of shapes, some looking like handles or trigger mechanisms, others like a bundle of tubes or sliding bars. Likely further prototypes. At their core though, most of them look more like tools than anything else.

"No firing off makeshift guns?" I question, remembering the little project she had me help with.

"She said she had the barrel and ammunition worked out, she was now working on the... cycling system? Something like a ramrod I'd assume." Mara shrugs, and you're reminded that while she was a quartermaster, she certainly wasn't a very good one.

"But cycling means round right?" I mutter outloud to myself, dismissing her as I got what I wanted. I ruminate on that as I continue on to my mother. I'd heard of guns that had multiple bullets loaded in a cylinder, which rotated so you had five or six shots before you reloaded... so maybe she's making something like that?

Basically, Fynn has settled on a barrel design and cartridge design. She's now exploring how she wants to create the reloading system. I'm leaning towards a falling block action version that is going to be mass produced and sold off, and then she'll implement revolvers where the same barrel is fitted to a receiver assembly for her sponsors until she's figured out magazine fed weapons. Part of it is still going to be the simple fact that she now has reliable standardized ammo rolling out of a machine.

You even saw a few of those fancy honeycomb style weapons when you went out yesterday, but Fynn didn't seem interested in them, because she can make them herself? Still, interesting, and you hope she lets you fire one soon. Emergency weapons are nice to have, but weapons you can practice with are better. Still, the shop is much more put together today than it was just yesterday, a full row of grinding wheels and other complex machines put together and ready to go. There's even a few casting molds set up, so you can hope that being able to drop a box of bullets in front of the Matriarch will get you a lot of pull.

Still, weren't you on the way for something else?

Well depends what you want to make. Falling block would be good for long guns, but for pistols, I think a simple revolver would be just fine.

One thing I know about the honeycomb arrangement is they are very heavy and while you do get multiple shots, the reload equally longer. Still she is moving fast. At this rate the Matriarch not only won't chew us out but might actually reward us. A sense of pride fills me before. Regardless I still continue on to mom's place.

For our scale, they'd be long guns. On the amazons it's closer to a short carbine. The rounds are basically going to be monstrous hot loaded shotgun slugs. Fynn is also going to need to do some trial and error on amazon ergonomics.

Approaching your mothers place, you see that she's got a few candles lit, and appears to be cooking, which... fills you with suspicion. Walking in seems like a good way to get smothered.

Combat shotguns would be popular. I'm just waiting for Drameer's 20mm APHE rifle.

I hesitate, but running away is just going to make it worse if she finds out. Knocking on the door, I peek inside to see what the hell she is up to.

Yeah, I'm expecting it to take the form of Amazons carrying several different drums (the pre mag final gun is going to be based on the Pancor Jackhammer) depending on what they're expecting and swapping around. Mixed shot for close in, solid slug for distance. I mean, these are dungeons after all.

You hear a soft humming before she opens the door, bringing you and doing her best to smother you once more. "Drameer! It's you again, how is my little boy doing? And you've made me a grandmother it seems!"

Yeah, not complaining or arguing, but Drameer prefers precision.

"About nine times over," I add, trying to squirm so I can at least breath, "Unless Ili-Lady Crystalsinger gets pregnant then that's ten."

"My little boy, mating all the different species." She coos as she almost smothers you as you manage to turn your head to the side. "Come in now, breakfast, and then you discuss what your mate is up to."

I nod, quickly moving to the table as soon as she lets me.

She does, eventually, let you go, so that you can sit down as she slides a plate over stuffed with food in front of you. Fortunately, it seems your sisters aren't around to pester you this time.

Looks like I'm going to eat a lot this morning. Still I start explaining what Fynn has been doing so far as I slow eat the food.

Your mother is rather dreamy as she listens, and you'd almost think she was imagining her future grandbabies, but she occasionally asks a few very good questions about Fynns long term plans. She wants to know what Fynn's plans involving the non metallic component, if there are any, who she's planning to have as assemblers and any other labor she might need. Does the clan need to secure more laborers? How long are they going to be needed for?

I deflect, saying that she'd have to ask Fynn... I don't really know the details of Fynns plans so I can't really answer. I also sort of missed the chance to tell her that her dreams of being a grandmother are much closer then she thinks.

Well... she'll probably figure it out the next time she spots Fynn. It was pretty obvious to you, so it shouldn't be difficult for your mother to guess that. Speaking of, if you're finished talking with your mother, it'd probably be best to grab a few buckets of food for your two broodmares. Ilixis did mention that they were probably going to be hungry, and with Fynn having eight... she's probably going to be eying Mara by now if she's up.

I gather as much of mom's breakfast as I can 'for Fynn' and stop by the messhall for more. Mara is allowed to get her own food from the mess hall so she can deal with that herself.
