I figure most space stations would be rather...tight on room, so glorified warehouses with widely spaced product displays ready to be unwrapped is a whole lot of space and material wasted. Also, gives more of a culture shock feeling.

The restaurant is much more what you'd expect, although instead of the tables you're used to, it's got a bench and table with an isolation bubble. That's what you'd call romantic. They don't have any open flame candles, but they do seem to have a wide variety of foods, including various animals and plants you've never eaten before. They are kind enough to offer a small holographic interface, so you can actually see what you're ordering before you have something show up that tries to attack you or something.

I mean fair enough, though I think space stations would be less constrained then a spaceship so there could be some. But yeah culture shock is still very much there, but I don't think Nikolas is the type to enjoy his plans being derailed.

Looking over the variety of foreign dishes, I starkly recall the times my squadmates, during our shore leave, would drag me off to an ethnic restaurant were I would have no idea what anything was. Sighing I turn to Sabhya, "What would you recommend?"

They might be less restrictive about mass since they're not moving, but any space they used would need to be enclosed and ventilated unless it's stored outside the hull (which is another thing they do, but you still don't get to paw through the merch. "Hm, if I recall my human anatomy lessons properly, your diet is similar enough to ours. I would recommend an Issun steak, rare, with sides of fried Ugnids and steamed Sigie." As she makes her recommendation, pictures of the meal she's suggesting show up. The 'Issun' steak looks a great deal like a regular steak, but the meat is whitish unless cut open, reminding you of a fish. The 'ugnids' look suspiciously like a potato with broccoli growing out of it. The sigie looks like purple mashed potatoes. You can guess that it's probably pretty close, and a glance to the side mentions that based on preliminary scans, this food is 100% digestible for you.

Yes, but if you are less restrictive about mass that means you can just build it bigger, meaning more space, and thus a less of a premium on it. Sure, they're not going to have supermarkets but I figured they could at least have corner store type of thing.

I nod. Steak is all well and good, but I doubt I'll take to this as quickly. In my experience even if you enjoy novel culinary dishes it takes a bit before you pallet fully accepts it. Still if it is edible I'm certain I sustained on worse. When supply lines are thin anything that prevents you from dying becomes acceptable, regardless of how... unpalatable it is. Reminds me about how our distant ancestors sometimes ate shoe leather to survive famines.

It's... not bad? The meat itself is a little on the bland side, as are the sides, but you suspect that 'taste' is definitely something that's going to be determined by individual species. If and when you swing by human space, you should probably pick up a bunch of stored seasonings or something. Of course, it's probably for the best if you steer clear of anything like nutri-paste, something that makes you shudder. Sabhya orders some kind of bird thing, although you can smell the spices on it from across the table. Not sure if she likes it spicy or her body reacts to it differently than yours. Probably should try to figure that out. She reaches out with one of her arms after the food arrives, turning the bubble around you opaque so you can converse.

The blandness is... disappointing... I'm partial to Louisiana cooking personally... or at least the spices. I'm a bit ambivalent to sea food which is a prime component of it, but the spices are just... perfect... God to pick some up whenever I got the chance. Even a little paprika and black pepper would go a long way with this. Still this bubble thing is interesting. Sliding closer to her, I 'steal' a bit of her food to see how those spices hold up as I say, "Nice little cozy place you picked out here."

The spices on her bird thing are intense and even after swallowing the morsel, your mouth seems like it's continuing to heat up after for a few seconds before your saliva finally quenches the flames and they begin to shrink down to a much more reasonable level. There's a lot of heat, but it still lacks complexity, although that might just be all of your taste buds having been seared off due to the spices. Hard to tell sometimes. "I think that's the first time I've seen a human eat that and not die." She says snuggling up against you. This bubble is quite dark, although you can't be sure a server won't come by soon, or that they have some kind of recording device in here.

"They must not have been a fans of Indian food," I retort through the pain, sucking in air in a futile attempt to cool the chemical reaction. I don't mind heat, but quite frankly if it is too intense you can't actually taste the food anymore. Indian food pretty good though if you can still taste it. Wrap my arm around her, I nuzzle against her. I don't mind performing publicly display affection but I'm not really an exhibitionist, mostly due to the fact that you run the risk of being interrupted and get chewed out, nor do I want to be a dick that leaves a mess for some poor, probably underpaid kid has to mop up. Still, kissing should be fine.

You manage to not cough it back up, and she returns the necking a little bit, nibbling at the side of your chin. You should probably warn her before she starts something that will end in a mess and bloated tummy.

She let's you kiss her and smiles before she finishes snuggling and goes back to her food. Probably get some of this spice and cut it, perhaps with some sort of acid so it doesn't burn as much. Still, you've had a good-ish meal, better than the glorified processed mush and grilled meats that she fed you earlier. As she's finishing up, with her food, she taps her finger against the table where a small bit of text had appeared. Having finished up your meal, you have business unless you think of something else to do.

At least the date isn't a complete flop after the shopping went no where. Still need to figure out how to get my hands on some human food, or at least spices. Once we finish cuddling I lead her back to the ship with one arm around her waist. It's time for the grand finale of the date.
