Bio: Your fairly typical rich boy with a bit of an attitude. The atypical part of him is that his father is a powerful mage who gained his fame through manipulation. While Toren is not necessarily a bad guy, he's not always a good one. With his magic beginning to form and grow, he must come to terms with what he can do and how so few people can actually stop him.

The city of Windbrook, was a fairly normal place if you yourself were normal, normal people, working normal jobs, doing normal menial things, but on the underside, if your less normal, if your one of the lucky few gifted with magic, then it's a very different place: A city not run by normal people, but rather by magic, the daily happening altered by discrete strings pulled by one magic-user or another.

those who use magic only really live by one rule, keep it a secret, though not too uncommon mages are often isolated, living in small communities often unaware of others around them though not necessarily they're magic and it effects on the world around them. magic was particularly prevalent in the business world where persuasion is a necessity, and one easily altered with magic, the ability of magicians to cheat the systems that most had to obey meant that many magic users are well off, living they're lives in large houses able to freely take advantage of the 'normal' world around them
it hadn't been long since your power had started to bloom and you didn't have very good control of them yet, but you had the basic gist of what you were currently able to do... when it worked at least, anyway, for now, it was time for school and it was probably the first time you actually had to worry about being magic while you where there as well, so you'd have to be careful.
the school gates were busy as usual with students following in from all directions, for now keeping a low profile was probably a good idea, though if you could single someone out you could potentially play with your powers a little bit

Toren held his excitement in as he moved through the school gates. He had been excited since he first fell his powers although it was a bit disappointing that his control wasn't the best, but practice would make perfect...How to practice though? He needed to first work on his charm and memory manipulation magic otherwise he was a huge risk to the one rule. He looked around at the students wondering if there was anybody who would make a good practice target. Subtle magic could probably be practiced while he was at school, and maybe just giving people a sense of joy would be a good start. The core to charm magic was emotional manipulation right? He focused on trying to remember his lessons with his father as he headed for class.

the corridors where packed it seemed that most people hadn't gone to class yet and as a result, it was hard for you to make progress to your classroom, but eventually, with quite a bit of effort, you make it. the room was empty as you walked in but a girl followed you inside soon after and took her seat near the front of the room

Toren glanced at the girl and tried to remember her name. Even if he couldn't he decided that she'd be the test of his powers during class. He'd make her giggle on command. Maybe not the most powerful use of his spell, but a good and safe start for practice. Randomly giggling isn't an uncommon thing and giggling could be altered to other things later.

Her name was Ellie and she seemed distracted enough for the moment that you could do what you wanted to her while the two of you were alone in the classroom

Toren took a deep breath and calmed his mind. He focused on Ellie and thought over how to do this. He remembered the parts of the brain that were involved in laughter: the ventromedial prefrontal cortex and parts of the limbic system. He'd focus on the cortex as the basis of this spell. By activating it he could force the endorphins that make her feel joy and laughter. He let the magic flow from him and cast the spell.

she starts giggling and sits up looking confused, looking to you briefly to see if it was something in the air, or if it was something else that had caused her to giggle

Toren looked back at her, acting confused, and spoke. "Think of a good joke?"
He cast the spell again trying to make it a little stronger.

"no, uh never..."she bursts out laughing this time, the spell hitting a little stronger than you'd intended, she reaches up to cover her mouth as she tries to control herself

Toren cut the spell and stood up. He walked over as he spoke. "I don't believe you. Can't keep a joke that funny to yourself. Come on share."

" there isn't a joke" she tells you panting, " I can't help it somethings making me laugh, but I don't know what" she tells you, seeming a little agitated

Toren contemplated something a little wicked. He spoke as he sat on the desk next to her. "Maybe you just saw my face."
He focused on forcing her brain to release endorphins again, except this time it was oxytocin, the love hormone as they say.

she blushes " no of course not, I mean uh.... you don't have a particularly funny face" she tells you looking away,

Toren wasn't sure if his spell had worked, but decided not to risk anything with a more powerful one. He smiled and spoke as he headed back to his desk. "If you say so miss giggles-a-lot."
Once he was at his seat he would practice the giggle spell on her a couple more times.

as with the previous times she seemed confused initially then embarrassed each time, her giggles filling the classroom. as the second outburst was in full swing another girl walks into the classroom and takes her seat ignoring both you and Ellie on her way in, it was Valerie.

Toren glanced at Valerie and smirked. He figured it'd be a good time to test his spell on another person. He focused on Valerie and cast his giggle spell on her. It'd probably be best to let Ellie catch her breath anyways.

it doesn't work on her, she sat there quietly, getting a book out after a moment and starting to read. it seemed that the spell had fired, but there was perhaps something about her that stopped it working

Toren noted Valerie's resistance to his spell and began pulling out his school supplies. He also decided to pull out his extra notebook for magic and made some notes. Once he was done he contemplated what to do next.

a few other students started to trickle into the classroom, it wouldn't be too long before class started now

Toren grinned as he waited for the classroom to fill. Now was the time to practice the precision of his spells. Could he direct them past a person was the biggest question. Once the class was full he took note of who was hardest for him to see. They would be his first target.
