She sighs with disappointment, [No it's not. They'd be stronger, smarter, and more obedient then any animal you could find. They could even help defend the city. I understand that you don't like such things but sometimes sacrifices need to be made for the benefit of the masses.]

To be fair, she doesn't usually get paladins in her service. More the sexually adventurous soul that just needs some encouragement and to let go of their shame about sex.

Your thoughts are interrupted as Paul seems to finally rouse from his sleep. Groaning as he drags himself up into a sitting position, he mumbles under his breath, though your enhanced hearing clearly picks it up "God, I feel like I got trampled by a dozen horses."

I let that pass, knowing that Paul was right, for the most part. Wonder when I should tell him he's a father? Maybe next time he tries to get possessive? Something like that. As is, I decide to finish stretching a bit before I head out to the next house on my list.

Roll 9
You finish sweeping through the houses. As it turns out the houses closest to the town are more or less intact while the ones further out are in massive states of disrepair, though you can still recover some raw scrap and the occasionally usable tool. There isn't much monster activity, just a few scatter nests that you deal with as you go. Nothing beyond what even a peasant militia could deal with. Still your scouting took the majority of the day and by the time you return to the town gates the sun has already set.

As for my plan... well, I think Moria has something for you. She a good girl who takes her job seriously. Like informing you of the next major plot point.

I roll my shoulders as I return to the town, bringing the small cart of loose bits of metal and such and dropping that off by the blacksmith before I head back toward the house, planning to check in with Moria to see if she's found anything.

That is true... He does tend to get more aggressive as his lust reaches unnatural levels.

With your day over you retire to the house, and are immediately greeted by Moria, giving you a flying hug. "I did what you asked mama! The house is clean and I found out some information." Looking around it looks like she's already thoroughly cleaned everything, even the floor and walls. "There was that gnoll army that broke through the northern passage before being wiped out by you... Well there are scout reports from messenger pigeons that there are more movements from the northern passage."

I let out an oof, but don't do more than flinch when she hits me. As many problems as this body has, I have to admit it's more than tough enough to stand up to the kind of abuses I put it through. "Thank you Moria, I'm happy to see my good girl was able to do everything on her list." I give her a smile and a headpat before I begin to head in and pull out any maps I've gotten so I can make notes. If there's already movement, then it could either be reinforcements, or someone else taking advantage of breached defenses.

She lets out an adorable giggle as you headpat her. As you move to your room to pull out your map, she follows you, clinging onto you just enough just short of getting in your way, curiously watching you work. As you lay out the map, you try to recall as much as you can about the surrounding area. The northern passage is a small gap in a mountain range guarded by a fort that held back monsters from the already lost Great Tundra, which was overrun, and was the reason you came to the rescue in the first place. As long as it is open there is nothing to stop any monster hordes from just wandering in, but the fact that another group is moving in so shortly after the gnoll army doesn't seem coincidental. Still, even if an army force marches it'll be a week at best with favorable weather so you have some time to prepare.

Likely a second wave to handle any 'survivors' that may have lasted against the previous swarm, or a competing group within the same gnoll swarm. We'll have a week to prepare, or there abouts. I might... I might need to birth another servant to handle the watch. I will certainly have to see what I can find, but something that flies or climbs trees seems like the most... viable option. [If... If I have another child like Moira, can we create one with wings or that can be sent on watch?] I ask Astaroth. I know I cannot summon powerful servants, but I'm unclear on where exactly the lines are.

Still, a week of preparation time should be plenty to work with. I'll need to check with the smith, just to ensure we have an adequate supply of raw material. The food is in as good of condition as I can get for now. That leaves me two primary issues to work on, my own equipment and getting something for the Beholder to trade for the petrified individuals to hopefully increase the combatant count. [How long do you think it will take anyone we resurrect from stone to recover?]

[It is possible, but the traits they have are somewhat... random. Moria herself can go scout however considering the demonic taint we should consider the possibility that there is someone in their numbers who can see through the invisibility,] Astaroth explains before commenting on your second question, [Shouldn't take too long. They'll be able to move though be disoriented but after a night's rest they should be fully recovered.]

[Once we've gotten fully situated, I think we should send Moira out to scout a bit. Let's give her a few days though. I don't think she'd react well to being sent away this early. It's important to keep troop morale up. I think.] I mention to Astaroth before I return my attention to Moira herself. "Is there anything else you'd like to report? Also... do you sleep? I do, but I don't know if you do."

"I introduced myself to the cultist. Talked with a few of them. John's nice," She comments idly, before answering your next question, "I can. I don't need to but it helps me conserve power."

"Hm. Are you at all low? Otherwise, I'd appreciate it if you'd scout the houses that we've recently secured with the new wall, but it's not like that can't wait. The main thing I'm looking for is any monsters in the area, so I can hunt them down and kill them most likely. Although, we're also looking for possible beasts of burden. Anything you find the time for would be helpful, thank you." I tell her, running over my wishlist of things to find in the wild. Who knows, maybe she'll get lucky for me. "Don't fight anything though, better to run away. I'll handle any fights that need to happen."

"No, didn't do much, and I'm still full up from your milk," She chimes, her eyes twinkling at the prospect of a new mission... At least she's eager... right?

"Alright. I trust you to tell me if you're in trouble or at your limit, I don't want you to hurt yourself." I caution her a bit, knowing that sometimes the young eager ones get themselves stuck in too far.

She nods, getting up to immediately jump to action, before pausing, giving you a bit of a longing look. Despite her eagerness to please she wants to cuddle with mommy a bit more it seems.

I open my arms. It's... strange jumping between being her commander and her father... mother. Very strange. But I do slightly miss the days with my niece, and it was nice while it lasted.
