A Mercenary Life[Lazy Kitsune]

Lazy Kitsune Wrote:Name: Erin Parker
Age: 29
Gender: Female
Appearance: https://chan.sankakucomplex.com/post/show/7470643
Race: Human
Background: Now a freelance Mercenary, Erin was once a Vanguard in the Alliance Military only to be dishonourably discharged after her insubordination in the field led to a major loss at the edge of human colonised space. To her credit, Erin disobeyed orders out of refusal to abandon civilians to alien pirates that Alliance forces couldn't afford to protect at the time, however by taking her team away from their mission objective, Alliance was forced to evacuate the colony as they started loosing their foothold and Erin's team was left behind as a result, having to hold out until the Alliance could return to rescue them. Most were killed or enslaved by the pirates, with Erin being one of the few survivors. She took full responsibility for this, sparing the surviving members of her team her fate. With no life outside of the military to turn to, she used what skills she had to become a mercenary, hoping to garner enough resources and intel to one day identify and track down the pirate band that had taken so many of her fellow comrades from her.

Stats
Strength: 3
Dexterity: 3
Constitution: 3
Wisdom: 3
Intelligence: 1
Charisma: 1

Secondary Stats
Health: ((Constitution + 2) x 10) = 50
Willpower: ((Wisdom + 0) x 102 = 30
Skillpower: (Wisdom + 1) = 4
Skills known: (1/2(Intelligence + 1)) = 1

Strengths:
Professional shot - She may not be Alliance Military any more, but her training still holds up. Erin's skill with firearms is superior to the average merc.

Hand to hand specialist - When a long ranged firefight is no longer an option, Erin is highly adept at hand to hand combat for disarming and taking down enemies up close.

Designated Driver - Erin can drive various land vehicles she was trained to use by the Alliance Military and can implement this knowledge when using similar vehicles.

Salvage and Repair - Years going from battlefield to battlefield have prepared Erin to perform repairs on her own equipment as well as salvage and repair or re-purpose useful items she finds in the battlefield.

Weaknesses:
Bad Alliance Rep - Erin's discharge with the Alliance has put her at odds with them, making dealings with Alliance Military aware of her record strained at best.

Faulty Biotic Implants - Without access to Alliance Military resources anymore, Erin has had to rely on second hand replacements for her implants. Getting an upgrade does come cheap and until then she'll have to deal with headaches and dizziness whenever she uses her biotics.

No Good Pilot - Land vehicles are one story, anything that flies is another. Erin has never been good at flying a ship or fighter on her own.

Traumatic Memories - Erin's nightmares are filled with visions of what she had to survive with her squad. These often debilitating memories come to the surface when faced with any reminders of that pirate group or what she suffered through while stranded on that colony.

Skills:
Crushing Force: Erin can funnel her biotic strength into a focused blow against a single target - particularly useful for attempting to breach through heavy armour or a reinforced door or wall. 1d12+4 damage and the cost of 1d12 Willpower.

Its been half a year since your discharge from the Alliance. Its been a bit of a whirlwind of emotions but you've been working your way back into the whole spacer life. Hitching rides by offering your services as a body guard for cargo ships. Now you've found yourself with just enough money to get yourself a nice little base of operations in Omega. Scummy and easily a dangerous place for ex-alliance but thankfully no one seems to know that you're ex-alliance. But to have a place to call your own finally means you can start pushing out and have a safer place to plan your next move. At the moment your listing on the extra-net you've got a couple of listings, one provides a hefty amount of credits, the other pays worse.. and well sounds a bit sketchy but is a unique opportunity to get in the good graces of the Asari, the listing said it'd was about biotic experiments

Omega was hardly the first place I wanted to spend my time, but I couldn't deny it was the best place I could be right now. Job opportunities for people such as myself were abundant here, and the only common courtesy this place had was that people tended to keep their noses out of each other's business. Priority one though would be saving up to getting a ship of my own and a crew. A pilot at least. The freedom that would bring me would take off a lot of the stress that comes with staying here. Until then, I had to pay the bills.

Checking my available options, I throw around the pros and cons of the biotic experiments for a bit. I was already stuck with some sketchy implants, so maybe I didn't want to push my luck with that, although anything that could give me an edge in battle would be useful to have. It wasn't off the table, but definitely worth some more scrutiny. At the very least it might be worth checking out the details of the hefty pay option.

Checking the extra-net listing the offer that had the high pay was a standard guard job for a excavation run. A prospector seems to have struck rich at a vein of Eezo and is bringing in a small crew to extract as much as they can. But such a find next stays a secret for long, so pirates were almost a given if the team didnt work fast enough. Besides a hefty sum of credits you'd be given some of the eezo to maybe purchase some better implants or sell for even more money. If you were interested you were to head to the bar and be on the look out for a quarian with a cracked mask.

"Well, well, well... ain't this something..." I murmur to myself. This job seemed definitely worth taking. A much cleaner way to afford the implant replacements I need and a job much more within my wheelhouse. Any operation involving Element Zero is bound to attract unwanted attention of some sort, but I wouldn't be in this line of work if I wasn't ready for that. A Quarian with a cracked mask... well, I wasn't an alien expert, but I was fairly sure that was bad for them right? Not my problem, I suppose, as long as they can still pay. Plus it'll make it fairly simple to find my employer to be - Quarian's aren't exactly the most common species around here. I decide to head off to the bar right away, wanting to get there before someone else takes my place.

You hit the confirm button stating that you were gonna take the job so that it doesnt get offered to anyone else though from what you understand the team has some combat experience but you're there in case things get extra hairy. It doesnt take long for you to get down to the bar, it seems to be omega's main attraction really.

Luckily for you spotting a quarian with a cracked mask was incredibly easy even in the hazy drugged filled enviroment that this place was. You spot the nervous looking male quarian in a booth fiddling with a drink and it's straw. the crack in his mask was rather.. major but on the inside you can see the patch work of some sealant tape. "O-oh you must be the merc, are you ready to go? I'd really like to get a move on, my brothers and i are ready to go as well. Its my pilgrimage, a real chance to make a difference for the fleet.." As he says that you see him fiddle with his drink more and more.

Even in the club I feel the need to keep my guard up. There was nowhere on Omega that was safe. Even with witnesses you could wind up in trouble. Sometimes especially with witnesses. Finding my employer I head on over to him, eyeing him up and down as I approached. He seemed quite nervous, definitely more than a little out of place.

"Hmm, we're going right away? No introductions?" I wasn't bothered, it was just unusual. Although this quarian hardly seemed professional - or at least not used to hiring mercenary help. "I'm good to go. Makes sense that we're in a hurry. I'm Erin. You're Mr. Boss Man. How many brothers am I looking after then?"

"Oh! Im sorry. im Zoro'Nam nar Keelah Si'yah its nice to meet you, my crew consists of 5 other quarians, but the ship we have should be large enough for all of us, it'll be a bit of trip to the planet though, maybe a couple days, i hope thats okay. Once we get the Eezo back to the flotilla you'll be rewarded." As he says that he's leading you out of the bar and toward the landing dock and stands uncomfortably close to you, but maybe this is just his nervousness speaking.

"That's all fine by me. If you're ready to leave then I have everything I need with me right here." I say, patting my rifle. I follow the quarian to the landing dock, although moving at a slower pace than I'm used to on account of him keeping back to stay near me. I can't say I blame the guy. He must be unused to life outside of the Flotilla, let alone someplace as shady as Omega. I don't know how a group of 5 quarians wound up here of all places but those weren't questions for me to ask. "How long will it take to get the Eezo back to the Flotilla and will you provide transport back to Omega?" I ask as we walk. I wasn't exactly under a great deal of time pressure, but it was important to know these things.

"The Flotilla is actually nearby, so we're lucky they'll be in this system for the next month or so, so 2 days to the vein, maybe a day or two to extract it all if everything goes right, then 2 or so days to the flotilla then we'll be back in... uhh" He looks around nervously.. "Omega.. to drop you off" He was immensely uncomfortable but soon enough you're at the docks and you can see the boxy utilitarian ship your employer owned one quarian stood on the outside of it, he seemed larger and more confident as well at least more than Zoro who constantly looked like he was about to collapse into a blackhole. "Ah Zoro, you're back and you brought back the fu- muscle." The quarian steps up to shake your hand. "Im Koran'Nam vas Shellshock i see you've met my little brother."

"Hmm... I didn't know the Flotilla came near this part of the galaxy." I murmur, although I didn't know that much about quarians in general. I must have only seen a small handful in the galaxy so far. Zoro'Nam seemed incredibly nervous as he led me to his ship. This place really didn't suit someone of his disposition. Seeing that one of his brothers seemed a little more confident was a bit of a relief. The last thing I needed was to be spending all my time on this mission herding headless chickens. I offer my hand to Koran as he greets me. "Erin Parker. Am I the only merc you hired for protection? With eezo on the line I'd honestly suggest hiring more. Unless that'd end up cutting into my pay, of course." I say with a slight smirk.

"My brother did the math." He says with a chuckle, "We figured that if we move fast enough and with the flotilla so near pirate activity would be pretty minimal, but im a trained marine, my brother and the 4 others have some training but they're mostly just going to be run the equipment. I'd definitely cut into your pay but if you wanna bring along any extra thats up to you." As he says that Zoro moves onto the ship which you can see on the side had SHELLSHOCK painted crudely on the side. "Come on we should get moving." Koran says as he moves up the loading ramp. the 4 other quarians are checking on their omni-tools various bits and bobs but nothing you needed to concern yourself with.

"You're the boss, boss." I say with a shrug, following the quarians onto their ship. Hardly anything fancy, but its not like it was intended for luxury. Erin appreciated the practicality of such a simple vessel. Nothing more than what was needed. It would hardly be anything she would chose to bring into a combat scenario, but if the quarian's were at all accurate in their expectation of minimal trouble then it should do its job just fine. "Anything you need to debrief me on, or will you just be showing me to my room?"

The other quarians barely give you a glance as they finish their preparations but they did at least seem to know what they were doing a couple do give you a wave though in an attempt to seem friendly. "Oh well whenever we take on new crew we all actually share a toast. It might not seem like much to a human but new crew is always a moment to celebrate even if the arrangement is temporary." Koran says as you feel one of his hands wrap around your shoulder. In Quarian he calls the others to follow it seems as the entire team moves into what seems like a kitchen/mess room. "To our newest crew Erin'Parker vas Shellshock!" Koran hands you a bubbly blue drink as the quarians drink theirs from their straws.

I don't go out of my way to greet the other quarians as I walk by, although I do nod towards those that wave towards me. I wasn't interested in making friends, but there was no reason to be rude. "A toast, huh? Even for hired help? Sure, I guess that's fine." I murmur. When Koran moves his arm around me, however, I gently nudge it off and step to the side. "Don't take it personally. Personal space issues, is all." I say with a shrug as the other quarians gather around. Taking the drink from him, I look at it curiously before glancing around at the others. "Vas Shellshock? You really do go all out with these welcomes." I lift the drink up to my lips, pausing just before taking a drink as I glance back at it. "What... exactly is in this?"

You can hear the others drinking as Koran and Zoro turn toward you then you hear Zoro speak up. "Its.. whats the human word for it..? Soda? But made with quarian plants." The younger brother actually seems rather excited to discuss the topic with you, but Koran waves it off. "The ingredients are rather rare now which is why they're only reserved for such occasions. New crew is an exciting occasion."

I nod along as Zoro talks, looking the drink over once more. The nervous quarian actually seemed quite eager to engage in conversation before his brother cut him off. Seems like finding the right topic could help him come out of his shell. Still, soda was hardly anything to worry about drinking. Goodness knows I've had to survive off of worse things than dodgy soda in my time. I turn to Koran and raise my glass to him. "Well, consider me honoured and excited to drink it then." I say before downing it with a smile.

You drink and you're actually rather surprised by how good it tastes! The bubbliness feels just right and does seriously make you feel nostalgic about more conventional human foods, but you think that maybe.. they forgot to mention the alcohol in it as theres a bit of burn in the back of your throat and it makes you feel really light-headed. Before you can say or do anything though Koran steps up to you. "Oh by the way Erin when we typically have a drinking game involving the Kavasha, it makes things more lively on the ship for sure. Im sure you'd love to give it a try" As he says that you cant help but feel like he's right, it'd be pretty fun especially with how this drink makes you feel.

I look at the empty shot glass in my hand in surprise. I didn't expect it to taste so good. Or be that strong. My attention turns to Koran, nodding as he speaks. Might as well kill some time. Unless ...Kavasha... was in ridiculously high demand on Omega we're not likely to be attacked by pirates until we get some eezo. The ship doesn't seem to have anything else of value on board.

Raising my eyebrows, I glance over to Zoro. "This has alcohol in it? Might want to lead with that." I say, but smile. Didn't want to make it seem like I was mad, alcohol was what I had in mind when I first heard shots. I pat him on the shoulder before turning back to Koran. "Alright, what are the rules of this game, then?"

If you could see the face beneath the mask you can tell Koran was smirk but his tone of voice does give it away a little bit. "Oh well its just until whoever passes out or declares they're unable to consume any more of it. Kavasha is a rather strong drink." You hear him chuckle as the crew laughs, Zoro seems to leave saying he'll prep the ship for launch and they'll be on their way shortly to a launch point. Koran walks to the bar to prep a couple of shots, his back to you as you take a seat, or well pushed into one as the 4 other quarians surround you a bit closely.. not that you minded strangely.. "Now normally we just play with credits, but we can make it more interesting.. if you win we'll give you a bigger cut of the Eezo, if we win, lets just say you'll be our... Nehya. the ship pet." As he sets the drink down and you listen to the rules they all sound perfectly reasonable; and even seemed a bit fun!

"Hmm, yeah, I noticed." I say with a smirk as he mentions how strong Kavasha was. Very few human drinks could make someone feel light headed this quickly, and none of then tasted nearly as good.

"Oh, you won't be joining us?" I ask Zoro, pouting a little as he turns to leave. It was probably smart to get the ship going as soon as possible if we wanted to get to the Element Zero in time. I squeeze inbetween the other quarian brothers as Koran gets the shots ready. A drinking game against quarians? Piece of cake. A bigger cut of the Eezo would help out a lot in getting me up and running as a full time merc. I might have enough for a ship of my own after this mission and also get a half decent biotic implant. I almost nod in agreement right away. Almost.

"Wait... wait, wait, wait, wait... wait." I say, holding up a hand. "Wait. You can't just throw out a term like ships pet and not... explain it. I mean, what does that mean? How long for?" even as I ask these questions I'm getting a hold of my next shot, showing no actual objections to playing the game.
