The Complex [Lazy Kitsune]

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Name: Gwen Bowman
Appearance: https://chan.sankakucomplex.com/post/show/4401925

Background: Adopted by an eccentric billionaire, Ernest Bowman, among a group of numerous orphans as part of a publicity move, Gwen, along with the other adopted children, was treated more as a servant at home than a child, expected to obey and differ to Lord Bowman and his biological offspring in all matters. Many of the adopted children were groomed to develop certain talents to help earn money for the family, whether these were tailoring, cooking or anything more particular that Lord Bowman felt they would be suited for. Gwen was at first groomed to work with books, with her adoptive father being one of the few men alive to own a significant collection of physical books in this day and age, however as her physical assets developed further, Ernest encouraged other habits. He instructed one of his previous adopted children to train her in the art of seduction and Gwen found herself more involved in the family business than she ever expected, charming clients and rivals of her father while using her smarts to gain as much information as she could from them. She felt she gained a decent amount of business sense and hoped to be of further use in this regard, however it seemed her father put little value on the information and advice she gathered, viewing her more as a bargaining chip to use to appease those he wanted to negotiate with. After taking matters into her own hands and using information she had gathered to send a false email as her father to arrange a deal in hopes of finally impressing him, he decided that if she wanted to prove herself, she would have to do it in a way he decided. As part punishment and part test, he signed her on to participate in a game show, promising to welcome her as a true daughter if she succeeded. And if she failed... well, the business could still use her old talents, so he might buy her back.

You are lead, blindfolded from the car to the building. You've been told that for the sake of secrecy regarding the challenges, you are not allowed to remove the blindfold until given the signal. Any attempt to do so, or otherwise peak, will result in immediate loss and elimination from the game. The reason for all of this is because the challenges have to already been in place due to the nature of the game.

You have signed onto a popular game show known as "The Complex": a show where several contestants are imprisoned on the top floor of a re purposed apartment building, and are competing to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles in order to ultimately escape.

You are forced to walk through what feels like a winding maze of hallways. The air here feels chilly, as though you were standing in front of an open refrigerator. Finally you are lead to a spot, turned around, and told to stay in place.

"When the elevator stops," a gruff voice says, "just stay there until someone grabs you and leads you to your mark. Remember not to take your blindfold off until given the go ahead. We have cameras all around in here, so don't try anything. If you are tempted, just remember what you have on the line."

When you are ready, your escorts step off the elevator, and you hear the door close. You stumble a little as the elevator begins to move.

Led in darkness through the apartment building, I stay silent, trying to steady my breathing as I feel my heart thump faster and faster inside my chest. A part of me thinks maybe that losing now would be the safest option - if I avoid most of what I go through in the game then maybe I would actually spare myself most of the trouble. But I push that thought aside quickly. If I give up, the punishment would surely be worse. Even if the game show hosts didn't incur an extra penalty, my father surely would once he got his hands on me again. My only hope was to win. If I did that... well, I might not even need father anymore.

I wait obediently as we're stopped, doing my best to calm myself. The show may not have started yet, but the game might as well have. I need to compose myself before I meet any of my fellow contestants... figure out what kind of impression I want to give. And I need to make sure the hosts don't consider me any sort of trouble that needs to be... controlled.

The elevator travels for several minutes, giving you ample time to think. A particularly nasty thought enters your mind as you wonder if this is meant to be a psych out tactic. A way to eliminate players before the games even begin. Maybe even that you are already being filmed. Still, your mind continues to wander as you prepare for your fight for your ambitions.

Finally, the elevator stops. The doors slide open, and someone enters and grabs you by the arm.

"You're almost there," says a woman's voice in a subdued New York accent, "Just follow me to the room you all will be starting in, and they you'll be able to remove your blindfold. Have to keep the surprise up, after all."

Her voice is very sing-songy, and she tries to guide you very carefully. A couple more corridors pass, and you hear her open a door. She pulls you inside and closes the door behind you. Then she gives you a hearty slap on the ass and laughs boisterously before announcing, "Alright. That's the last one. Get ready to roll cameras. Everyone, you can take of your blindfolds in 3. 2. 1!"

When you take off the blindfold, you are in a large, bright, pastel, octagonal room. The room is filled with ten other people gazing about in confusion. All except the tenth, whom is the luscious woman standing next to you.

I try to avoid making any noise when I'm grabbed by my arm, startled by the sudden sensation. I quickly follow along, keeping my head low even though I was blindfolded, but listening carefully to everything the woman was saying. I try to keep a mental image of how far from the elevator they were taking me, however there was no guarantee they weren't taking a path designed deliberately to confuse my sense of direction. I'm surprised once again, this time by a slap to my ass, tilting my head up in response. I swallow slightly and straighten my back, knowing that it would be soon time to put on a brave face.

I slowly peel the blindfold off once allowed to, blinking as my eyes readjust to the light around me. I carefully take in my surroundings, surveying my fellow contestants with interest before taking a look at the woman beside me, standing to attention and awaiting her to continue.

"Hello everyone! I'm your host, Mona Shamdon, and welcome to The Complex! The show where the contestants must work together to overcome challenges, while eliminating each other to be the last one standing. When it comes down to the final contestant, they will be able to escape with the riches they gather here." the woman beside you says.

The host seems to be fairly energetic, even if she does look to be a little older than everyone else here. She is a shapely woman with olive skin, dyed red hair, and a beaming smile.

She continues with, "This is the Octagon. Where hopes are raised and dreams crushed, this is where our contestants will vote out one of their own at the end of every episode. Who here will survive? Let's find out!"

Shortly after, the director yells cut and everyone goes about their business. Mona addresses you and the other contestants, "Hello, nice to meet all of you. As I just said, my name is Mona, and I'm your host during your stay here. If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to me. Your stuff has been moved to your rooms, which are labeled, and access to the cafe has been granted. Your room has also been outfitted with a confessional room, which you can use at any time. Please use it to film your introduction when you are ready. And finally, please keep all wandering to this floor for now. Anyone discovered breaking this rule will suffer immediate disqualification and loss."

Mona claps her hands together and smiles, "Now that we have the boring disclaimer out of the way, lets all make sure to have fun and play nice. Make sure to get plenty of rest, as the first challenge starts tomorrow. Clyde will hand you your room keys as you leave the octagon. I myself and heading to the cafe, as there is a piece of cake with my name on it. Feel free to come chat, hang out, or ask your questions. I'd love to get to know you all."

After that, the door opens behind you and a scrawny man in a headset is standing there with a tray of labled keys. The various men and women that make up the other contestants start funneling their way to the door while Mona makes her escape to down the hall to the cafe.

I glance around the room for a few moments as people start moving from place to place. I almost instinctively go to follow the group but instead turn to watch as Mona walks down the other hall on her own. Talking with her could provide some very useful insight into this situation. There might even be some unexpected benefits to befriending her. I decide to collect my room key first, moving over to join the other contestants, but keep my eye on the path Mona just went down, intending to head to the cafe shortly after this. Starting off with some insider tips couldn't hurt.

You wait in line until it is finally your turn to get a key. You follow the hall and any signs that point toward the cafe. It's difficult to get lost, as any other path leads to someone's room, with their name labled upon it, a small gym, a rest area, or an exit that sees several security guards warding away anyone that isn't on staff. After a few minutes, you finally find your way to your destination. The room looks like the breakfast bar of a hotel, with an extension that leads back into the kitchen. Various snacks, sandwiches and desserts adorn the bar itself, and some cheap tables dot the room with three to four chairs apiece. Mona is sitting in one, eating a piece of german chocolate cake with her name written in frosting. You hear footsteps behind you. It appears you aren't the only one to want to talk to the host.

One person is a young asian man. He has light skin, short black hair, and blue eyes. You can tell that he is exceptionally lean and fit. He is wearing what looks to be a track suit, and running sneakers. Something looks to be troubling him, but you don't know him well enough to even guess what it could be. The young man can't seem to stay still for even a moment.

The next is a young latino woman. She is far shorter than you, and has an adorable roundness to her. She reminds you of a teddy bear. Her skin is a beautiful bronze, her long hair is dyed red, and she has soulful black eyes. She has an aura about her, professional and serious, that reminds you of daddy's lawyers, but also has a welcoming warmth to her as well. You can see her earrings have the christian cross in them.

The last one is another woman, this one middle aged. Her skin is pale, her eyes a deep blue and covered by slightly crooked glasses, and her hair auburn. This woman looks to take good care of herself. Instead of moving up to talk to Mona, she instead stares at her from the hall, analyzing her as well as the rest of you. She bites the nail of her thumb as she looks you all over, one by one.

It would seem I wasn't the only one who thought to come here first, and the others are all undoubtedly. just as aware of me as I am them. Particularly the older woman keeping back. As I glance back at the three people following me down the hallway, I make a conscious effort to keep my pace going as best as I could. Its one thing to give them all a passing glance as I hear them approach, but its another altogether to stop and stare.

Bringing my focus back to Mona, I make my way towards her, folding my hands behind my back and adopting a polite, slightly submissive stance - leaning forward ever so slightly as if constantly about to tilt into a bow, a soft smile wide enough to be warm and friendly, but not open to appear flippant. Chest pushed forward... just in case that was Mona's thing. Might as well put some of good old dad's training to use.

"Hello, Ms Shamdon. Sorry to disturb you, I had a few questions I wanted to ask about... well, OK really I just wanted to come and talk to you-" I let my grin widen, shifting from foot to foot "I'm a bit of a fangirl, and you're somehow even more awesome in person than on the screen. Is- is this a good time? I can come back later if its not."

You make your way to the hostess first, and present yourself as you were taught. You make yourself as unassuming as possible, while trying your best to be appealing. She gives you a warm and welcoming smile as you approach. However, you do notice her glimpse at your chest for a brief moment. She does an amazing job of hiding it, probably aided by years of acting, and a lesser person might not have noticed at all. But you are not the common rabble, and know from that brief flick of her eyes that you are her type.

"Of course! I always have time for one of my adorable fans. And of course I'm always free if my contestants need me" She glows as she gives you a hug. Intentionally friendly. She doesn't even attempt to bush ever so slightly up against you and try to play it off as an accident. Rather, the appearance of the hug may be that of an old friend, to you it feels calculated. She is certainly committed to her role.

"What would you like to talk about, dear?"
