"Yeah, they had a falling out over some stuff and we got chased off across the mountains. Turns out that was lucky." the drunken ape answered to the first question, his tone taking on a particularly bitter tone. "Maul says he's got a way to get some revenge for that usin' what's in the shrine, it's s'posed to be located in the next island over, the one with the lighthouse on it. Dunno what happened to the old inhabitants, place was abandoned when we got here aside from a couple dragon girls. As for what else I should say? Well... I dunno, ya got a nice face and rack, but your approach sucks." he remarks, giving you a defiant glare. "Ya ain't gonna be stoppin' us, we're gonna use that to get our payback, then we'll build a nice, big city o' Apes on top of yer bones, you scaly flying rat!"

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Ape attempts to break the bindings, 12 vs 1! He succeeds! Takes 2 damage from your tail blade!

The ape suddenly lunges up, and despite your tail blade scoring a jagged wound from his neck down towards his pectoral, you can see him tense his muscles in a ferocious effort, and you hear them snap violently just before he shoulder checks you, knocking you back and away from him as he assumes a fighting stance, arms raised like a bare knuckle boxer!

"I might go down, but I'm gonna go down with at least some blood on my claws!" he snarls, barely slurring as he prepares for what he probably views as his last fight!

Cynder wonders why these islands were abandoned except for a few dragonesses but she'll figure that out later because right now the object they are looking for in the shrine is more important if Maul and Malefor want it that bad. She was about to give him a slap of his tail when he commented on her looks and approach when he suddenly lunged forward, breaking free of the ropes and wounds himself on her tail blade. This sudden attack took her by surprise and she is knocked by away from him. She curses a bit at this; she knew the ropes were old but thought they would hold and that the ape after drinking so much wouldn't be able to gather so much strength.

"You know, I was going to let you live but I guess you just ruined that." She said as she gets into her battle stance before unleashes her shadow breath at him, the shadow like flames spewing from her maw at the ape.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Rolling for breath: 17 vs 10, 3 damage! (Drunken Ape has 2/7 hp)
Ape attacks: 13 vs 14, miss!

The ape's eyes widen and he tries to dodge to the side, but your breath scores him along the side, the scent of charred hide reaching your nostrils as hey howls loudly, as much as he can. The volume at which he's going doesn't appear to just be regular pain though, but you don't have time to bother with that before he kicks the burning stool he was on at you! Thankfully you were able to duck it, but from the corner of your eye, you can see it crash against one of the wooden doors and land amidst the straw!

The ape snarls desperately, drawing a deep breath. It looks like he's gathering his strength for something!

Cynder ducks down and dodges the burning stool that was kicked at her and she notices land in a pile of straw and hopes that it isn't too dry or else this whole place is about to burn down around them. "Damn it, I don't have time for this!" She switches to her wind powers and uses them to push him back before she decides to try to fly out of whatever window or door that is nearby and get away. Since she can fly all she has to do is get into the air and he won't be able to get to her, and she doesn't expect those flying machines she saw to be able to keep up with her.

You manage to escape from an open window as the ape begins hooting and yelling, smoke billowing out from behind you as the flames quickly find fuel among the dry straw. You hear other apes begin hooting in the distance, among the ruins, taking up and sharing their comrades' warning.

It's then you feel a sharp presence around the back of your neck, as if for a split second, someone's gaze is boring deep into your core, but the sensation passes, leaving you in the skies overlooking the floating island, with others drifting nearby like clumps of torn up sea weed in a steady current, the wind blows strongly on this night, and you can smell sweat and blood on the breeze.

Cynder jumps through the window and quickly flaps her wings to take to the air and get away from the burning building and the ape that was pursuing her. She can hear the hooting of the other apes nearby and she decides to fly away for now as sneaking around won't be easy now.

As she flies she suddenly felt a sharp sensation at the back of her neck and she gasps and freezes in the air before the sensation passes and she straightens herself out before putting a hand to her head. It felt like...some had looked deep within to her core and she wonders if it has something to do with Malefor and that damn mark he left on her. Remembering where the ape said the shrine is and heads there, hoping to get to whatever is inside of it before the apes do.

You can tell that this isn't going to be easy, as flares fly from the island you were previously on, red, green, red. Probably a code for a major threat or attack. As you eye the terrain of the island, you can make out the site, a large shrine with three spires jutting up into the sky, almost like a cathedral. There are gargoyle like statues of dragons, largely ancient heroes of your kind. Many of these are badly damaged either from the simple ravages of time and nature or the Apes clumsy work, when it's not deliberate desecration anyway. You briefly see the shape of a massive red Ape, disturbingly reminiscent of Gaul, and there's no need to guess who that was.

However, you've got more immediate concerns, as hooting and whooping from below tells you that the Apes on the ground have seen you approach, and they're scrambling for what look like large carts with boxes atop them, with cylindrical items in the holes at the top!

Cynder sees the flares going off in the sky and curses as this situation only seems to get worse and worse for her. Using her wind powers she creates a tailwind behind her and spreads her wings to catch the tailwind and fly faster. Soon she sees an island that had a large shrine that looked more like a cathedral than some simple shrine. Getting closer she sees a whole ape outpost that had been set up there so they could get into the shrine.

Getting closer she is quickly spotted and she curses again as stealth is definitely out of the question now. She watches as some go to large carts with boxes on them and she knew exactly what they were and that getting hit would be bad for her. Using her poison powers she creates a large orb of volatile venom at her muzzle before firing it down at them; the impact should be enough to destroy at least one of the weapons and knock down any apes near it. As she's doing this she tries to keep her distance while getting lower so they can't aim them at her well since those weapons are supposed to be aimed upwards. She needed to get into that shrine and get what they were looking for before she is forced to retreat.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

18-15, success!

The orb, a hissing, boiling thing not unlike bubbling oil, strikes the first cart and it's explosive cargo, as well as it's operators with a large, heavy impact that sends venom spraying everywhere. Within moments the cart is visibly smoking and melting as apes rolling around on the ground, screaming and howling as they desperately attempt to get the stuff out of their eyes and hides! However, the second cart is allowed to fire it's payload, and does so, sending whirling, whistling missiles hurtling in your direction!

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

8-10, failure! 1 damage!

Your intelligent positioning allows you to avoid the vast majority of them, but one manages to land a glancing blow, scoring a mark on your side that stings sharply, if not deeply before the offending dart falls into the void below.

Your descent allows you to find a window near the bottom of the first floor along the right hand side of the building, allowing you to climb in quickly and take in the sights. It appears that you're in an abandoned storage room going by the cobwebs, the dust from your entrance is almost choking with it's thickness, and the low lighting makes the small chamber feel almost claustrophobic. At the end of the room is a narrow door made of smooth stone,a knob of brass on one side for easy opening and closing. Beyond that door, you'd find a hallway with a turn from right to left. To the right, you could hear angry, hushed muttering from what is likely a couple of the apes, as well as footsteps. You can hear something else to the left, a sort of distant, hard breathing, as well as feminine squeals and yelps.

Cynder watches as her attack takes out one of the carts but she was hoping to take out more than one at once. This meant there was at least one able to fire at her and she does her best to dodge them all and for the most part manages to do so but one manages to graze her side and she winces as her armor and clothing is torn where she was hit and she covers her side as she continues to fly.

Now too low for them to use those weapons on her she makes her way to the shrine quickly and enters through one of the windows. Inside she lands and uses her other hand to cover her muzzle as the dust of the room she landed it was thick and made her cough from how much there was. She quickly checks her injury and if it was minor enough that she can continue on and ignore it then she won't stop to treat it at the moment. She peeks out of the storage room and sees the hallway and hears the sound of angry apes down to her right. Deciding not to wait in the dusty storage room she quickly goes left and tries to stay to the shadows incase she needed to use her shadow powers to hit quickly. As she moves that way she hear some kind of heavy breathing and yelps that might be female but she ignores it for now as she keeps going.

Deciding to move left, you quietly move away from the sounds of arguing just as it appears to start getting violent, going by the sounds of fists and barks of pain behind you, probably a higher ranking Ape smacking his subordinates into position. These noises subside as you go further down the corridor, the musty smell of faint mold and mildew telling you that this place hadn't been properly cleaned or drained of excess moisture in a while as you came across a door along the side, which the other set of noises were coming from.

The door was ajar, so you could take a peek through the small gap it had, and you could see a large, red Ape, naked as a jay bird, his sturdy hips thrusting roughly between a set of dull yellow legs, covered in scales and tipped with clawed toes, which often curl and tremble as muffled moans and squeals come from the figure under him and her wings flap and flutter weakly.

"Hmm, guess even if you can't give me the answers I need, I can at least get something outta you." the great Ape grunts, slamming into his partner and staying there a moment, letting his rod settle for the moment while he savored her. "Should've brought over some females, but hindsight's...uh... that."

Yep, he's definitely Gaul's brat.

Moving down the hallway towards her left seemed to have been a good idea as the noises of violent apes sound more distant and start to subside as she gets further down the corridor. The musty scent coming from the mold and mildew that covered parts of the walls, ceiling, and floor told Cynder that this place has probably be abandoned for a very long time before the apes came across it. The smell wasn't her main concern though as she kept her hearing alert for any sounds of apes that might be nearby.

Soon she comes closer to the noises she heard coming from this side of the corridor and sees a door that's slightly ajar and its obvious that's where the noise is coming from. She takes a peek in and her eyes widen while a blush covers her face from what she sees. She takes a moment to look at the male ape and the dragoness he is thrusting into though she does not recognize either one. However with the size of the ape and how he talked... he was definitely the son of Gaul. She stays outside of the room for a bit, trying to see if the big ape would say anything useful. If it seems like he won't though then while he's busy she would melt herself into the shadows on the ground and make her way into the room and behind Maul so she could knock him out from behind before he even noticed her there.
