"Aether Lance. It's a good practice for manipulating magical systems, but if you know the basic shape of the spell and it isn't protected by crystal or something, you can jab a few holes in something critical and the spell will collapse on itself as it burns up the mana it's got." Loren recalls bits of information about it, but it just seems... wrong to you, and seems built on magical principles that don't make sense. It seems like a dispel ability though, even it seems like it's not as versatile as the kind you're familiar with.

Elizabeth nods, mostly lost in thought at this point, most likely mentally dissecting the problems in front of her. As you approach the last open area to see what's going on, there's three main groups bunched up around individuals. There's a rather pretty Stormfury, who's beauty is slightly marred by a number of burn scars, although it seems they've been healed pretty extensively. Another one is an older male rabbitkin, much more rabbit than Mary is, who's confined to a wheel chair. The last is a dwarf with a metal arm.

The Stormfury seems to have quite a few young males hanging around her, listening to her speak in her melodious voice, although she's not saying too much of substance, mostly answering questions. The rabbitkin, who looks like he's mostly made of burnt leather, is telling stories from his ancient youth, and judging by the severe wasting of his legs, likely will never again. How an old codger like him kept going for that long is impressive in its own right. The dwarf is in a shouting match with somebody, gesturing with his metal arm. The dwarf seems to be a bit red in the face as he argues about how there was fuck all they could do. The person he's arguing with is human, and as you glance over him, you spot the telltale glimmers of a Void Whisperer.

Well Elizabeth is hardly the type for clandestine or anti-clandestine operations... Victoria would be more of a hand here, but I guess it's up to me. The Stormfury catches my eye... and ear, but no. I'm busy now, and can't afford to play. The rabbitkin is interesting and I might talk to him if I had the time... but next is the jackpot. My eyes lock onto the human. Tapping Elisa I gesture to him followed by placing a finger onto my lips and moving towards him. I listen into the conversation, but am ready to leap onto the human if he gets the least bit jumpy.

"-and I'm telling you, one or two people meant feck all in that fight! Go watch it! I got hit by the fecking Hawks Flight Crystal rupture, the feck you think I'm going to do after that! Even if ae'd been up, tha' fight were over in two minutes regardless of how long it too the Princess to put us on the ground or in it!" The dwarf spouts at the human, pointing to the area with the moving portrait. The human himself doesn't seem that interesting, very plain looking, and if you're not missing your guess, likely has some kind of enchantment that makes his details hard to recall. It's hard to tell with mind magic like that, since you can't really check to see how it reacts on yourself. The dwarf seems to be arguing about how quickly he went down, the human seems to think that the fight was close. You didn't see it, but you're fairly confident the dwarf is right, Theresa may not have had the experience she does now, but she knew how to employ her raw power against her opponents.

The human is acting the part of an argumentative twat, and Loren's memories seem to be where you're drawing much of your knowledge from, pointing out flaws in the logic of his arguments. That said, fights are usually not something that sound logic determines after the fact, and emotions tend to run hot. The pattern is beginning to become clear, at least a little bit. Two Void Whisperers working in a museum open to the public, one was ensuring that the portrait wasn't working, and the other seems to be trying to imply the fight was a lot closer than it was.

So the Void Whispers clearly have an interest in spreading propaganda... but why? I doubt they'd take to interrogations so it's best to just get rid of him. Walking up to the human I announce, "There you are! What the hell did I tell you about getting in arguments with strangers." Wrapping my around his neck and pulling him away, I continue to give him a fake lecture on behaving himself.

He tightens up, trying to squirm away as you grab him but the way the Void Whisperer reaches out and tries to attack you, before getting itself immolated by your mana is strangely satisfying. The man goes somewhat limp as his mind tries to stitch itself back together. "Aye, thanks Lad." The dwarf says to you, tipping his head a bit like he's got a cap. "Anyway, where was I?" He begins to drone on and on like you've seen some people do. You're not sensing any more of the Voidspawn around, so you can likely take your time going over everything of interest to you. It's still fairly early in the morning, although it's getting close to lunching hour.

I deposit the man somewhere he can rest, perhaps a bench of some kind, before giving the museum another once over. If I don't find anything, I guess there is always the display again.

"Aye, thanks lad, you saved me from breakin' a few promises. I was thinking about breakin' a few things in 'im, but the Good Lady Loren would'na liked it if I had." The dwarf tells you when you return. He's... somewhat familiar, although it seems more like someone she knew briefly that had a fairly significant effect on her than someone with a long history. The Stormfury also gives you a thin smile, although she also seems a bit... intimidated? Well, you are quite powerful. The rabbit morph is also jabbering along and calling the young ones whipper snappers. You could stay and wait, but you're not seeing much else of interest. You could try to engage one, or several, of the survivors or go watch the rest of the portrait, which according to the dwarf, only has a few minutes of actual combat before it devolves into a slugfest.

Nodding to his thanks, I give him a small smile, "I'm glad to hear that. Always happy to help, so what actually happened back then? You can only get so much from displays, but stories from someone who was actually there... It's so much more... visceral then." Noting the Stormfury, I return her smile with a beaming one of my own. Perhaps I'll check on her after this, but for now I want to hear what the dwarf has to say and then check the display.

The dwarf beams at you, and the rabbit groans. "Oh good, the little fuzzball is going to blabber about he earned coin without getting anything done." He harumphs before the dwarf responds, "Aye, I got 'em for breach of contract proper disclosure, not everyone is so stubborn they insist on returning money to the losing side of a war." A few seconds more, and it likely would have turned into a brawl, but with quick action you steer the dwarf back onto course. "Well, I weren't in the fight long, mind ye, but I'll tell you what I did see. Around these parts, lightning and magma are the preferred weapons, so ye always carry a few metal powder bombs, it catches the bolts and the bolt will leap to the ground thru the smoke if they ain't got the control to keep it up. So, soon as tha door opened and the Princess stepped through and started gatherin' power, I threw a smoke down and backed up, putting up a thin stone wall as I could. I werna expecting her to reach out and swat the Hawk out of the damned sky like twer a damned bug.

If ye get a chance, go see an old crystal grinder break a few spell crystals. Most of 'em are bone dry, but you'll catch a glimpse of a few that have a few drops of mana. The magic in them unwinds and they blast out everything they have left and quite a bit of the energy it took to make them. I always heard the main flight crystals were'na breakable without draining 'em first, the wind barrier on them is so powerful. That one wasn't empty neither, was full up ready to bring the storm and lightning when the Princess fired an Uru arrow into the damned thing. You could see the crystal fracture, bolts of lightning leaking out before the whole thing let go. Naturally, we set up with the Hawks at our back, and our walls facing the courtroom. I was in da smoke, and I don't know if that attracted the lightning, or diverted it around me, but only a bit touched me and took my arm, and burnt me whole side all crispy like. Me vision hadn't even started comin back in from the lightnin' flashes before I took a little nap.

Me little niece twice removed was hauling the half of me still breathing back to a healer and putting up a wall when I drifted back in. By that time, the Princess was in the middle of one of the groups and was playin havoc wid em. I caught em all trying to hammer her at once before she responded. Don't know if she got their field gun 'ur what, but everything went from white spots and poor focus to a deep orange as she laid into dem with some magma streams. I lost it then as the healer put me under, I tink me screamin was distractin the pretty elf lass." He opens and closes the prosthetic limb a few times, some of the memory still raw and painful to him as he tells you his short, painful story.

I thank the dwarf for his story before moving over to the display. Still not sure what the hell they are after. None of this seems like it'd be of interest, but they clearly disagree...

You've got some company this time, the small group of orc teens that you saw earlier are watching it. It's approaching the end of the battle unless you miss your guess. There's barely anyone left standing by this point, a handful of circling orcs, many of them not engaged in combat and seeming to be trying to force themselves to heal faster. A cluster of other people are on the ground under cover, and seeming to be under a net of stone while four healers are trying to keep them alive. If you didn't know what to expect, you wouldn't be able to recognize the scorched dwarf and severely burnt stormfury. A third healer is trying to keep the other two on their feet while the last tries to help the orcs.

There are two orcs currently engaged with Theresa, although one of them catches a bad blow, shattering an arm. A blur approaches, and you see Theresa jerk to one side before the blur bounces away. This time, watching for it, you see the figure, a rabbitkin, most likely the one in the other room, circle around as an orc steps up to take the wounded ones place. All of the fighters look ragged, armor falling off and Theresa heavily drenched in blood and hardening stone. The new orc doesn't quite manage to bring his armor fully to bear, and Theresa grabs an arm, dragging him towards her and a sharp backhand that takes his head off. The blur returns and Theresa shrugs him off, and closes with the other orc, delivering two or three solid body blows as the others try to approach.

Having gotten herself some breathing room, she does... something before the blur slams into her back, but a burst of red indicates the rabbits harassment is likely at an end. "Fucking hell, a thunderstone? Still?" A raspy voice asks, stunned that Theresa still has a a few tricks. She draws up one leg before she does a full force kick, making the rabbit blur across the field and slam into a wall. The way his hips seem very gel like indicates that he's got a pulverized pelvis which is why he's still in a wheel chair two years later. After that, it's basically clean up. It took eight noble orcs, a noble healer, and that rabbit to keep Theresa in check, and a bad bit of luck tipped the balance. Theresa hits the remainder like an avalanche, dismembering the remaining orcs, who refused to lay down. This was the part that was playing earlier. The healer looks on, letting their arms fall before Theresa points to the rabbit, seeming to show a bit of mercy.

Theresa approaches the net of stone, and the lone dwarf girl standing there with a rock spear tries to stand against her before Theresa snaps the head of the spear off and hands the girl something before making a 'gimme' gesture. The dwarf looks ashamed before nodding, taking the pouch and handing over a few items, and her spell hammer. Theresa goes to many of the corpses, picking things up from them and putting them in a sack. A bit of memory flashes through you when she approaches the door, and your vision abruptly shifts to be inside of the door, with Theresa stepping inside, drenched in blood and carrying that sack. She approaches your father on the throne, and kneels, before giving him the sack of trophies. She returns to one side and stands watch for the next five minutes while your father deliberates before deciding what to do with the family heads that have been imprisoned.

The orc teens begin to spread out a bit, waiting for it to play again most likely. There's excited chatter, as they're getting to see the moving portrait for the first time. You catch bits of 'actually saw the ending,' and 'fight should start again shortly' and '[Moltenfury] went down like a bitch,' before their instructor pushes them to one side to let you get in close.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

A) Having Talren catch the end and then rewatching the beginning seemed much more reasonable than having him sit through a thirty minute video all over again when the interesting part is at both ends, hence the loop.
B) While such a gratuitous display of violence like this wouldn't be a normal museum occurence, I figure the equivalent of upper highschool orc kids who are traveling might get it. Mostly as a warning about what happens when you pick a fight above your weight class.

The fight is impressive and something I could learn a thing or two from. Dragonborn tend to barely use any equipment, relying on their natural gifts... yet this here shows just how powerful you can be if you deign to use the power of items. Regardless its interesting, though nothing particularly informative to what the Void Whispers are doing here... unless they actually just want to make the rebels not know for having 'went down like a bitch' to quote a certain eloquent speaker.

Your own conclusion was shared by Theresa apparently, as her favoring of a single a weapon, as powerful as it is, is something she rapidly retrained herself out of if Loren's memory is correct. Even the addition of your own spell pistol and the little bit of gear you've already gotten has significantly increased both your versatility and your ability to keep other people alive should you so choose. You saw her gear yesterday, and not only did she have a spell pistol and small shield, she had a number of throwing items with her as well as a small knife along her back. That and the intense six months of combat style retraining she locked herself up to accomplish after this. You did notice in the moving portrait that she only somewhat understood the basic attack styles that you've seen her use with your own eyes, likely a bunch of dueling habits. Having learned proper use of weight and momentum at the level she operates, she's going to be significantly more dangerous.

Internal monologue aside, you see the portrait restart, and this time, you notice the dwarf throwing his smoke bomb before hiding behind it. You manage to spot a deployed magma field gun again, although it's quickly covered by the stone wall that's being thrown up in front of the unloaded Hawk. The other one is in the process of unloading before Theresa steps out. It's hard to tell because of the blur of half second portraits, but it looks like several people are trying to form up before the Hawk is swatted out of the sky. You ability to see what's going on behind the stone wall is limited, but you do make out the initial action. There's one of the Stonebreakers caught off guard when Theresa comes through the wall, but it doesn't last long before he's covered in stone, but Theresa leads with a grab onto his helmet before driving her knee into his face, cratering the stone helmet.

At this point, many of the fighters are still stunned by the massive lightning storm, but a few seem to be doing well enough. An elf surges with power arm swelling with raw power and mass, charging Theresa and she adopts a form that gives you bad memories, shifting to a fully braced elbow block. The elfs fist stops, shattering, and the two arm bones behind it follow suit, rupturing out side ways. He's stunned, and Theresa takes quick advantage, shifting in for a roundhouse to the head. The pink and red cloud that his head becomes actually begins to crawl its way back toward becoming a head, but you know that the souls grasp on the brain is tenuous at best, and if there's enough residual healing magic to put his head back together, there's probably not going to be anyone in it.

The minotaur whose armor you spotted earlier charges in, swinging his war hammer which Theresa tries to block. Unfortunately, that's one of those lessons she needed to learn about, and she doesn't quite stop the head of the hammer from ringing her helmet like a gong, and she stumbles. The tauren though is shaken, and he can't seem to get the hammer back around before Theresa catches her balance and turns it into a full body punch to his chest. As you expected, that blow smashed in his chest, along with sending him bouncing off the wall. One shoulder is crushed, and he manages to get his helmet off as he starts puking up blood before scrabbling to take off the cratered chest plate. A flash of lightning rips from Theresa along the remaining fighters on her side, accounting for more another half dozen lives.

Theresa actually breaks her momentum when she spots one of the few people still left on her side, who draws the sword you noted as stolen. Theresa tanks the hit as she closes in, before she grabs the dueling arm and snaps it half, twisting his hand off. The man begins to panic and tries to run before the princess grabs one of his feet, pulling him back and smashes her fingers through his chest armor, pulling out a handful of ribs and some organs before she slaps him against the stone wall. The audio is almost pure screaming and panic by this point, but a chorus of pure voices begins to sing, and a glow erupts from the opposite side and lightning begins hammering your sister. After the third strike, she begins to give ground before the bright light is too much to see through. Many of the remaining casters are bunching up to try and join the fray before a stone column erupts between them and Theresa. Even so, the onslaught is devastating, and the stone column is soon gravel and dust surrounding her.

As the barrage dies down, a sharp orange glow comes from the dust cloud before multiple fingers of high speed magma rips into the built up caster position. A spike of fear from behind you almost distracts you before you spot Theresa charge out of the cloud and engage the orcs who are finally getting their shit together. Knowing how it ends, you turn around to see Dina Sturmyaeger. Well, having survived that, it's no wonder she's got some residual fears. "Hello. I wanted to thank you from keeping a fight from breaking out."

I watch over the fight, part of me really wishing I as there and involved in it, but regardless I am still left confused on why exactly the Void Whispers are even interesting in this. I suppose I will figure out with time, but I don't like being a step behind them. Letting out a sigh I step away, only to be greeted by someone I was hardly expecting. Rolling onto my back foot as I lower my stance and eye grows narrow for just a moment, I catch myself, laughing off both my surprise and her concern, "Hey no problem at all. Just trying to keep things civil here."

"It's strange. You're similar to us. But you're more lizard like. And the flavor is closer to... fire? Yes. How does that lead to flight?" She moves closer to you, staring into your eyes as she probes you. This level of analysis is strange, and the fact that she can see that much. "You almost remind me of her, but your power is still different, raw. Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to get distracted like, it's very unusual." She backs away, giving you a small bow before moving further away.

Not being able to decide how I want to respond as she examines me I just raise an eyebrow until she says I remind her of someone. I know exactly who she's talking about, though the fact she could tell is... interesting. More so then anything else. Still probably not the best to let one of the clan leaders of a rebellion know I'm the resurrection of the long dead princess. "Oh? I am a strange being here apparently, so I do seem to be mistaken for other people often," I laugh off her insight, "Talren is my name. Nice to meet you." I off her my hand.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

I wouldn't call six months long dead. Also, she meant Theresa, not Loren. Talren and Theresa are supposed to have similar magical power levels, and people versed in sensing that sort of thing will pick up on it. However, Theresa's is only detectable while she's summoning power or shortly after. Because Talren is constantly oozing low levels of mana, his magical aura always looks like he just got done with magical gym time, which is why people are guessing at his power so often. This is mostly me covering my ass on how so many people can realize that he's exceptionally powerful but not quite how much.

She takes it, giving you another once over, this time taking in more than what is magical. "You hold yourself like the queen. Someone who knows that they could over power most people they meet, but doesn't usually want to fight with them. I suspect the hair and eyes don't help with the comparisons." She cocks her head to one side giving you a smile. "Not that you're on her level of course, I've seen her more recent bouts and she can do the same sort of things she did two years ago with just her bodysuit, doesn't even need the armor to maintain the same output." You're a little tempted to flare your power, just so she knows who's boss, but being thought of as powerful, but not as powerful as the queen could be useful. It might also damage the magical apparatuses around you if you start throwing around your power, and you're also not a manchild. If nothing else, being so easily manipulated probably won't appeal to her.

"Oh. Good afternoon Princess!" Dina spots Elizabeth and bows, but keeps her words and bow fairly low key. If Elizabeth doesn't have guards, besides you, and you do spot Dina's eyes flick to you and reassess you, then she's likely not interested in being announced.

Noting her eyes flick back to me after greeting Elisa, I give her a smile, "Thanks, a crowd would be... troublesome. Spoiler (click to show/hide):

General timeline is that the rebellion ended 2 years ago, but started 3 months before that. Loren was assassinated 6 months before Talren was brought to this world, three months after that King Bright retired, promoting Theresa to Queen. Long enough to scrabble and get together the resources for this, not long enough for someone like Theresa to move past it.

Elizabeth swats your hand away, looking a little embarrassed. "Yes, well, not all of us like roaming the countryside and wallowing in animals we've killed." She sniffs at you, getting a bit prickly. Dina laughs at that, seeming to roll with it. "Well, isn't that delightful. Princess, you do need some time in the air, let me know if you need to go for a flight and I'll be happy to stop by." Dina casually tries to insinuate herself. Bits of Loren's memories surface, particularly of dealing with Dina and trying to help her get what she needed so that she won't have to turn to another rebellious faction to get what she feels her people need. With Loren gone, it looks like Dina might be fishing for a new benefactor within the Bright family.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

You can't keep changing thing from what we discuss and expect me not be confused. Last time we talked about this, the king stepped down after Loren was murdered out of grief. It happened around a year ago, making the time dilation between Talren's world and this one about a factor of 20. Reducing it to half a year suddenly shifts it up to a factor of 40. There is also the issue that if the rebellion was related to the reasons why Loren was targeted for assassination why did it take 18 months after their defeat to do? How did they do that after being defeated for that matter? If anything it would have made more sense if that was something they did during the war, particularly when it was clearly not going in their favor as a last ditch effort to change the outcome.

"No you prefer being hunched over a table... wallowing in the animals I've killed," I retort with a toothy grin. Pausing slightly at Dina's interlude, I try to decide how to handle this. While I don't really want to leave her without any help, she's really not needed... Besides with all the mind control going on, letting someone who can fly have access to the castle for flights with one of the princesses... sounds like a bit of a security risk. "Thanks for the offer, but don't worry, I already make sure she does," I shut her down politely. I'll have to meet with her later to see if I can help her out with her problem, but for now I can't really let her get what she's after.
