Spoiler (click to show/hide):

HEAT are actually a type of kinetic penetrator (I personally dislike the HEAT acronym, preferring EFP, explosively formed penetrator, or EFPF if it's got a frag coating but it's rather hard to pronounce). Are you thinking of HESH which mushes across an armored plate and then explodes, shattering it?

So: 1)Magma Stream, 2)Magma Chunk, 3)Light Bore (laser), 4) Lightning Storm (similar to what Theresa used on the Jagreen), 5) Ice Of Some Kind (we can do something where it conjures an ice spear, something where it sprays cold, or something like Mary's spell pistol where it throws a spell that summons ice). You've request a 6) stun/sleep of some kind, seems easy enough. A 7) Vibration attack of some kind. 8) Acid sprayers are entirely doable in the same veins as the magma weapons assuming you don't want to replace them entirely. 9) Have you considered one of these? Image

I've mostly been using the elements as Talren interpreting the magic based on what he can tell of it rather than 'classical' elements. That's why he can identify things like weight, strength, and hardening magic specifically, even though they're not strongly associated with any particular elements. They've used conjuration magic fairly extensively, and there's no reason not to have a 'pressurized whatever in a bottle' if you want. I was also going to suggest a good old fashioned slug thrower. Do keep in mind that anything you ask for can show up on a ship at some point, as I'm trying to keep Talren and Theresa's power level at the same general output of a field gun, however going 'full power' would destroy whatever crystal is in there, hence the vents.

Eliza seems delighted that you're letting her keep the talon, but she seems more unsure what to do with it. "Maybe a sword? Theresa will know." You catch her mumbling to herself. The fact it seems fused to the femur is also something to consider, but it's not something you yourself will have to worry about. A treasured family sword named 'Dragon's Claw' or some such nonsense is likely, but there's worse things that could happen to it.

The weapon seems to be quite simple in its use, something that Elizabeth has clearly put a lot of thought into. You're vaguely tempted to get Theresa to show you what her toy does, but you suspect you'd be out here all day putting craters in this farmland that likely needs to have a few families come and claim their loved ones remains.

Still, while you and the rest of your family have been chatting and playing with toys, a few enterprising young guards have been loading up the remains of the Ogre, almost the entire thing having been broken down to its part. The only part that seems to be mostly whole is the head, with the small axe still jammed into its eye. Theresa ends her conversation with the rather starstruck Mary, heading over to pick up the gruesome head, axe and all before carrying it back to the Bringer of Pain and setting it in.

At this point, Mary and you are back in front of each other, trying to decide if you should hitch a ride or not. "So. You certainly seem to know the queen. She didn't even threaten to ripe you limb from limb from grabbing the princess." She seems more bemused at this point.

Considering the naming convention already shown, I wouldn't be surprised if it got named that... or something worse... Well, I'll deal with that then.

Well, I decide a single test shot it good enough for now. I'll have to wait until later to play with this thing.

"I told you how I was living in the wilderness before becoming a hunter... Who do you think brought me into the kingdom? Now do you want to hitch a ride, or would you prefer I carry you?" I point out to her with a smirk before leaving the decision on how to get back to her.
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

No... Unless you mean that HEAT utilizes a copper jet to penetrate(You can not like HEAT as much as you like, but it is still officially what a lot of the munitions we use are classified as). But that's not what a kinetic penetrator is. It's power is still chemical in nature and not from the muzzle velocity. Things that are designed to defeat explosive ordnance like spaced armor, or ERA are highly effective at defeating HEAT rounds for that reason. But no, I am thinking about a shaped charge, where it's force is concentrated on a small portion and thus pierces armor, not causing a shockwave that forms spalling on the other side of armor plates. I was agreeing with your assessment of the dragon bolt.

5) The ice summoning seems to make the most sense for what is derived from an field gun. An ice spear is going to be primarily kinetic and a spray of cold is going to be too short ranged. 8)No, he didn't request anything specific so it makes sense they would include magma, acid would just be another thing for the monster that is weak to it. 9)I don't recognize it. What is that? A wide area kinetic wave?

Sure, I just didn't know what they had access to, and I thought that if we thought about that we would have a better idea of what we can actually load into this thing. As for the slug thrower... I don't know... when lined up against the Light Bore, I just don't see the reason for it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

I concede the point.

How I picture a full power Light Bore: Image Maybe not quite on that scale, but very much a 'liquefy the target' situation.

The gif is from Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust if you want to watch the movie. Would recommend, it's fairly self contained. And yeah, it's basically a big kinetic shove in a circular pattern. Might work instead of a sonic attack, but up to you.

The basic 'flavors' of spells I've been using have three general forms, 1) an active spell component where the magic goes somewhere and does something specific (either in a self contained form or in a 'spell carrier' like a modified slug), this completely breaks down when targeting Talren, 2)a localized effect that then propagates through regular physical reactions which Talren has to resist through his natural toughness, and 3) 'magic dumps' where a tremendous amount of raw magical energy is carried somewhere and then dumped on the target, where it will take its natural form. Talren would resist this last one, but it would still cause secondary effects he'd have to resist naturally. Each of the three has various benefits and disadvantages and defenses against it.

I have plans for that claw. It's going to come up in *thinks for a moment* four-five days? Somewhere around there. I have a better name than 'dragon's claw' though, was planning to call it 'Void Eater'. It will make more sense after that.

Theresa drops... lets go of her pistol and it jumps to her thigh, binding self there and seeming to tap into the thin lines of mana running across her armor. You do also notice that she has a small belt and set of spell crystals with more than a dozen variants of different flavors and designs. And judging by the flavor coming off them, more complex ones. Although, given that Theresa's combat styles and preferences are well known to Elizabeth, that's not surprising. You'll have to go play with your spell pistol and give her some feed back and maybe she'll make you some more toys.

"I'd be jealous of that spell pistol, but the way I saw you throwing mana around, I don't think I could do anything like what you do with it. Still, you know the queen, you're getting gifts from a princess. You probably didn't even need me here to take on that damned ogre either, you'd just have torn it apart." She seems a bit rung out by this. "Fine, let's take a ride back home. Next, you'll have the queen stop directly in front of our house or something." That sounds like a great idea that will mortify the high strung rabbit woman.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Gotcha.

And from what I know, and the name I think I have an idea already.

I already begin thinking of ideas for my new pistol, but that will have to wait, instead I have to comfort this poor pouting bunny. "That sounds like an idea! Anyways, don't feel so bad. If I had to fight it solo, I don't see how I could have killed it without destroying all the valuables... You turned a tough victory into a clean one," I encourage her, patting her on the head right between her fluffy ears, scratching the base of one before switching to another.

She looks at the destroyed boulder, and the fact that there's a fairly narrow hole drilled straight through the middle of it even if the surrounding area is demolished. Of course, it's just a rock, no telling how much tougher Uru is, as you're aware that it's a very in demand armor material, as well as the much more useful properties as a construction material, the primary limitation being both its scarcity and the difficulty in working it into useful shapes.

Mary starts lean away from you, but her ears betray her, leaning into the pets and seeming to enjoy it. You can also see her dark skinned face flushing a bit more. Strange, her head musculature doesn't feel quite right for simple rabbit ears, something to investigate later perhaps. There's much more interesting parts of her to explore.

"Do not fuck that rabbit on my ship." You hear in your ear, and glancing around you see Theresa glaring at you and touching a spot on her throat guard again. You'll have to learn how that works, communicating on the battlefield this way seems rather useful. Still, Theresa needs to mind her own business. Her fingers change position, back to the 'out loud announcement' set and she says, "All aboard, I have a good idea where you live from my intelligence officer, Mary. We'll drop you and your trophy off. You can take your boy toy as well if you want." Mary blushes furiously at being caught in such a public display of affection.

"Fine fine... I'll wait," I give Theresa a smirk. A little laugh escapes at her announcement to Mary, "See, all you had to do was ask and you shall receive!" With nothing else to do, and the fact that she seems to be putting up some distance when I try to be affectionate, I decide to try and warm her up to it by some flirting as we fly.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

For the record, the uru armor of the ogre would have stood up to at least one of the shots, short of a head shot. The equivalent impact would have left a finger wide hole through its forehead. It wouldn't have made it all the way through a chest shot (and Talren was unaware of the redundant vital organs the ogre had).

Mary... seems to be slowly unwinding. While it's been a while, you have been in a situation where you thought you might have to trade your life for your families, and that tends to result in some rather tense and strong emotions. She does loosen up as you flirt with her on the ship though, although she still seems to be a bit standoffish. That might be because of the rather cramped quarters, as there's no other 'rooms' within the chamber. Getting a look around, the forward section has a door which you assume leads to the cockpit. The inside has a wide variety of equipment, a lot of it medical in nature, although there's quite a few weapons as well. While you haven't been in any Hawks, at least in this life, you this one seems configured for infantry and infantry support, hence the large number of hull mounted weapons and such. You can also see a lot of the light magic built into the skin of the craft, which must be how it maintains its invisibility.

Elizabeth is quietly humming to herself, and seems to be playing with some of the bits of armor from the ogre, which is in a few different piles, one for bones, one for armored plates, and one for osteoderms. Theresa seems to be up inside the cockpit, which you seem to recall having two seats. The other guards or servants are making themselves useful at the various weapons stations, checking the various mana storage crystals, which would probably look more tasty if there wasn't some absurdly dense magic currently being digested in your stomach right now. Many of the various organs you've feasted on focused on strengthening and weight magic, with a touch on hardening and healing. You'll probably be able to exploit that, at least a little bit.

After a bit, Mary does seem to open up, and seems at least mildly receptive to your flirting. You could continue, or you could wait until you reach her house. Or apartment, or whatever. Might be easier to convince to do various fun things if there's a bed.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Fair enough though he would aim for the head just like what he did with the dragon bolt.

Content that Mary is warming up to me, but noting that I'm not going to get any further I decide to excuse myself to check up on other things. I think about checking on Elizabeth, but she's likely going to more annoyed being torn away from poking at all the new toys she just got. Well, the cockpit has another seat and I haven't had any more then a brief conversation with Theresa in a few days, so I decide to check up on her. "Sup? Sorry to steal your prey," I enter with as I take the other seat.

Pulling up behind Theresa as she sits in the back seat of the Hawk, the familiar face of the male pilot visible, you begin to converse with her. You don't know him, but Loren did. Theresa finishes whatever conversation she had before pulling you closer and touching your head gear against her own closed helmet so that you can have a bit of privacy. "Well, the main reason they pulled me was in case there were survivors and I needed to push the damned beast out. Otherwise, we'd have put a fist sized thunderstone through its chest and then burnt it to ash. Letting the hunters keep the population down and collect bounties, but this one attacked a village. I don't mind getting called away, although the lack of something to beat on is annoying. Are you volunteering?" You can almost hear the smirk in her voice.

In her soft skin suit alone, she was a force to be reckoned with, but in her armor and wielding weapons, that's a whole other story. Bits of Loren's defense knowledge does bubble up, and the basics involve simply dumping raw magic into the suit and letting it handle everything, although the suit is obviously no where near as tough as the armor and has to compensate for it. Lorens lack of real knowledge and training looks to be showing, as you already know more about the inner workings of attack spell crystals than she does. The shiner the damned ogre gave you has healed, but it still stings, and fighting that level of strength without the sluggishly speed and large target does not sound especially pleasant. And unlike Judith, you're pretty sure you're not going to get to take Theresa's armor off even if you won.

Plus, you have that pretty bunny girl to play with.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Current plan is to have Theresa and co drop Talren and Mary off at her apartment unless you wanted to chat with Theresa or go play with spells.

"Sorry, got plans already," I shoot back a toothy grin, "Still, if you want that, you only got to wait a few more days. I'm sure my sister would be more then happy to take you up on that." Can't say that the lack of 'rewards' should I fight her isn't part of the reason I'm not going to take her up on it, but I have been working on the bunny girl, and I wouldn't want to leave her hanging.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

I'm fine with either a little more talking with Theresa or just dropping him and Mary off.

"That does remind me. We're sending ol' Bringer here out to pick up some of the smaller components for the transit system, power converters mostly. The big gateway unit won't be coming in until later, and it's too big for the old girl to bring in alone. If you've got anything else you want to send out or request from the Oracle, now's your chance. After that, she's going to be waiting out there until Jillian is ready to return." She pauses and hesitates for a moment, "The Imperial ambassador is also going to be coming in tomorrow. I... I would not be upset if you attended in the afternoon." Is she asking for backup? Lorens memories seem to indicate that she does that less when she's fearful, and more worried that she'd lose her temper. Considering what you've seen her do, it's probably for the best if she doesn't lose her temper with another country, as that's likely to lead to war of some kind.

"Well, you could pick up my... 'mobile observation unit' or what ever she called it. Other than that, I'm not sure what else I should get, if you have any suggestions," I drop an open line in case she wants anything, not that she would admit to wanting it so perhaps a wasted effort. Still as she asks for back up I nod, "You don't need to ask..." before joking, "Or would you like me to show up as Loren? That'd sure throw them off kilter."

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

IIRC, the observation unit wasn't going to be ready until well after that. Could work well enough I suppose.

"I've got a few requests, but Elizabeth is running some calculations to make sure it's viable. Also, I'm still in debt currently. Still, it will be nice if this could be over sooner rather than later..." She seems almost wistful at that. "No. the last thing I need are rumors of Loren still being alive somehow. Not to mention if you do want to pass for her, you'll need to spend a lot of time in her form. I know you can shape shift, but I didn't think you'd want to spend hours a day pretending to be Loren." Yes, that's probably for the best. Your draconic female... hermaphroditic form has some serious deviations from a baseline human, so you could always claim it's a coincidence. A thought bubbles up that it'll be nice to see Jillian again.

Otherwise, it seems you've got something to do in the afternoon tomorrow, which is nice. Showing up early would likely mean a tremendous amount of waiting around and listening to the pomp and bullshit human political creatures tend to like. Loren distinctly remembers the Imperials in question being the epitome of pompous blowhards convinced of their own superiority. Still, it looks like you're approaching the city itself and Theresa sends you back to go fetch Mary for better directions.

Don't go wasting any effort on that if it's just going to be wasted," I comment on her debt, before shrugging, "I don't know, when I'm in that form it really really doesn't feel like pretending. Still I understand your point, I'll be there though... In my regular attire."

Excused to find Mary, I quickly do so, sallying up to her, teasing "We're almost there. Theresa would like you to help her fine-tune her directions so she can land right on your porch. Save you on all that walking."

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Hm, I recall mentioning I had a plan for an encounter three days ahead of time, but that was all.

Also, thinking on it, I'm planning for the talon to be forged into a living weapon, but a 'souled animal' type where it can cast very minor magic but isn't intelligent. It might have a thing for blonde badass babes, couldn't imagine why though.

She looks you up and down. "See Elizabeth about something a bit more... finished looking. Also, get one of these." She says, tapping her thigh holster. That would be pretty nice, and you would look good with that spell pistol hanging off your thigh. And all those ostederms would look good as a vest, perhaps painted crimson bordering on black. So far, Elizabeth has done quite a good job creating magical tools for you, maybe she'd want to do that? You could also make the same request of the Oracle you suppose, and it seems it does 'better' work, but Elizabeth's work seems to... mesh with you better.

Mary gets up and heads to the cockpit to give Theresa and the pilot accurate guidance. Elizabeth is staring at the claw embedded in the end of the femur, and she seems to be glaring at it. "You're going to fight me more than the scales aren't you?" She mutters to the claw. Considering what she looked like after that, you might want to talk her into sending 'that' particular bit off to the oracle if she insists on turning it into something else. If five scales almost put her in a coma, trying to force the claw into a new shape might kill her.

Unless you have a conversation with Elizabeth, you'll arrive shortly.

I checked and I think you're right, but I was only skimming so I might be wrong.

However you want to play it... I wonder how it'd react to the being wielded by its origin?

"What? Don't like my regular attire?" I retort with a cheeky smile, since I was referring to my form rather then my garments.

"Take your time with it," I announce to Elizabeth, putting my hand on her shoulder, "Try to force it and it'll fight you. Convince it to work with you and it'll be much easier. It's still alive you know. The scales were too, but not the same as them." I suddenly recall a story about a dragon planting it's talons or teeth or something and it grew into a creature. Didn't really buy it unless additional magic was used so didn't really pay much mind to it, but this conversation just reminded me of that.

"Don't know, the mouth is awful smart." She says, letting it go after that.

"I'll see what I can do. I've been doing research on source interactions, and I think I can get something working, but I'll need to run a test model before I try anything." Elizabeth mutters.

Arriving at the apartment, the ship hovers slowly, and pulls open a side door for yourself and Mary to hop down onto her balcony. She does ask Theresa for the 'trophy' she got, and Theresa tosses the skull and axe down. The balcony gives an unhealthy shudder as the heavy lump of metal and bone hits the balcony floor, but Mary quickly heads over to pick it up, but finds it's rather heavy, and you can see her struggling to move it around.

The axe rotates easy enough, but the damned thing is monstrously heavy. The head isn't 'that' big but it's easily half your own body weight. You don't have a problem lifting it, but still, it's a little on the worrisome side. Having the monster fall on you would have been... unpleasant. Looking into Mary's apartment, it's a little bit on the run down side, although from what you can tell, it's a decision Mary consciously made. The room is clean, but seems... empty. There's one couch, and a bunch of workout and training equipment, and there's no wood on the floors, just pure tile bricks. Based on what you're seeing, this was a lot of obsession for vengeance driving her for quite some time. She's still obviously unpacking it all. There's a sink that you can set the head into to keep it from leaking anywhere in case there's anything left in it.
