So, we've confirmed dragons have a large number of forms they can use. I was thinking of making 'true' dragons have multiple pure dragon forms, including a battle and war form. The battle form would be their smaller humanoid form, but fully scaled and built for agility and combat. The war form is the massive building sized 'proper' dragon form. I was thinking of having Mom have to use her battle form.

"Well, if you trust them and think the others can match each other, I won't worry about that as much. I will be making a few tools to handle the things you have mentioned so we can be ready. I also need to prepare the gate form... oh so much to do. Still, it's not like I get to talk with you much, so tell me what else is happening with you, any interesting princesses you're going to kidnap and keep in a tower?" Why the hell did she jump to that possibility?

I blush a little bit but retort anyways, "Nah. Sounds like a whole lot of bother when I can just apply charm and get them to swoon for me."

Yes, but more dragon than human. The pictures you've sent are both skin showing and... matronly. This is going to be a form fully covered in scales, solid muscle, teeth too large to fit in her mouth, etc. It's not supposed to be attractive in a traditional sense, which is one of the reasons that Talren has never seen it before.

"Well, you are my handsome little man, I don't doubt it. Still, I would like to form a nest when I get there, be a dear and scout for a nice cave, would you?" She tells you, before switching back to business. "I have a lot to do, is there anything else?" She asks you.

"I was exploring the local volcano. Found a good spot. It needs to be expanded but it's right over a magma vein so it's nice and warm," I tell her before shaking my head, "No, was just touching base and letting you know of the threat I found."

"Excellent. I love you, save some extra space as well, your sisters will be coming too." She mentions as she starts to disconnect from you, her mind likely already wandering to other things. The update didn't take more than an hour as you described the fight you had and the various techniques you saw the void spawn use. Still, you should have plenty of time to get ready for meeting Maryanne Longtooths family. You... don't need to bring a gift or something do you? What's the protocol for meeting a girls parents after you help her achieve blood sworn vengeance and then impregnate her?

I say my goodbyes and sigh... Well I might need to find some room to dig out the area more. The concept of bringing a gift suddenly comes to me... Shit what do I do? Money... that's too straightforward... Food? Well she's a hunter and so is her father I believe so they're likely sourcing their own, and I can't make anything fancy... Pausing for a long time I try to figure out if I got anything I can offer as a gift. If nothing comes to mind it's time to wander the markets in the mean time.

You do indeed have an ample supply of money, and at least it's fairly easy to get a hold of. Heading out and purchasing some kind of large dish is certainly something you could do, whether buns or something else. You... you don't actually know that much about Mary, besides her absolutely obsessive devotion. Probably not a good idea to get her... work out equipment? She's probably got everything she needs. The axe she had is probably stuck in the head of the monster, so maybe a replacement for that? Wandering partway in, you do find jewelry, which does appeal to you with its shiny nature. You could get her a small bracelet of some kind, that seems to be a common gift, or at least you've been handing them out like candy. There's also clothing stores, but again, that seems like an odd gift, especially if everybody is going to be present when she opens it up.

While I'm tempted by the jewelry, I decide against it. I have no idea what she would find pretty. Well, maybe I'll just have it as an addon to the main gift. The axe though... That's not a bad idea. Got plenty of cash and I've been studying a bit of the local methods of combat and hunting so I should be able to make an educated choice. It should at least be as good as her old axe though, preferably better.

Having settled on a new weapon, because you can never have enough of them, you can head to either the location Gabby took you, as they'll likely be able to put you in contact with weaponsmiths, or you could try the hunters guild, they had a very large amount of equipment pre-built. You should also probably think about what spells you want it to have, the one Mary used only had the one 'cutting' spell, but much like the tiny ice pistol, you suspect that limitation has more to do with the cost and age of it. While Theresa's heavy spell pistol is obviously both far more expensive, powerful, and designed with multiple spell drums in mind, much of the military uses a newer spell carbine that has spell drums even if they're not removable. You recall that Theresa made a big push for that after the rebellion as a way to compensate for... something. Loren's memory is fuzzy on the exact reasoning, but does remember the expense.

Of course Loren remembers the cost, the little financier she is. One would think she was already a dragon considering how particular she is about gold. I can't help but chuckle at my joke as I begin moving towards the place Gabby led me. I fear that I might be dragged into a hunt if I go to the hunters guild, which I don't have time for. I'll definitely keep the cutting spell, but I'm not sure what other spells would be useful for an axe wielder. I'm thinking a fire wave might be a good one, but I'll keep my mind open to suggestion from the shop keep.

Returning to the same one, you actually manage to spot the same gentleman from before. While the shop does seem like it favors smaller charms and such, as well as armor and 'wearable' equipment, they do have access to a decent amount of weapons. Listening to your request, he stops and thinks for a moment before nodding. "We have been getting more requests for dual weapons, so we do make a version with a spell in the axe head, and a separate one in the hilt and then weave a bit of crystal around the two. I can show you our stock should you desire." He leads you to an area with exactly that. Many of the bladed weapons seem to favor the cutting magic which makes spotting one of the lightly bearded ax with a vicious spike on the backside. It also seems to have just a touch of the breacher spell woven into it if you had to guess. The other spell crystals that seem to function like a pommel are a wide variety of sizes and shapes, and you do find something that throws fireballs and similar. There's also the handles, some being ornate and looking like woven branches, others little more than sticks with two turned down ends and a flare for gripping. You naturally finding yourself gravitating toward mythril handles, both for it's light weight and strength as well as it's low level magical hum.

With the handle material quickly narrowed down I begin looking through the options for the handle spell. She doesn't seem to use range much, so I'm thinking of three major options, a mobility spell, a spell that wreaths the blade in fire or magma, and a defensive spell.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of mobility spells, most of those seeming to be favored for armor and similar equipment. You do find one that allows the axe to create a formed shape of fire around it, which would be close to what you want. There's also various defensive spells, mostly seeming to be built around creating a directional projected shield.

Pausing I'm waffling between the fire axe or the directional shield. I look around to see if there are any axes with all three, if not I guess I'll have to buy both as a pair.

Looking, you do find a handle that seems to have a slot at both ends that can accept a spell crystal, it's just an order of magnitude more expensive which is why it's not front and center. You're able to find it in a length you find acceptable as well, the cost being more than the entire set of armor you purchased before. Investigating a bit, the price primarily seems to be that these particular types of weapons aren't designed for multiple spell crystals like the gauntlets or carbines are, they're designed with either a fixed purpose, or to accept the variable spell crystals like what the carbines use, with the associated reduction in power and variety. Of course, the old adage about having one thing you know well instead of being stuck choosing between hundreds that might work also comes to mind. Since everything is pre-built and just needs to be tied together, it shouldn't take but a half hour to bind the components together.

With my decision finalized I place the order and wait for the axe to be completed. While the idea of grabbing something to eat crosses my mind, I shouldn't sate my appetite before my dinner invitation.

It doesn't take long, and you are happy when the slightly larger axe is finished, the handle long enough to use with both hands but still still short enough to be usable by a single hand. The spike on the back hums with menace. Now, just tying the nice pretty sheath over the head does an excellent job of protecting it. All that's really left is heading out to the dinner unless there's something else you want to do first.

With my gift complete I see no reason to delay this any longer. Using my communicator I call up Mary to give her a headsup I'm on my way, and whether or not she wants to meet at her apartment or her parents' house.

"We can meet at my apartment. I'm bringing the 'trophy'," she informs you and you can't help a little smirk at that. Nothing quite like bringing the head of a womans enemy as a gift. It doesn't take long to get there, and she's outside in a fairly nice set of clothes, not the kind she works out in, but a rather nice summer dress. And a large sack thrown over her shoulder with something closely resembling a handle.

The sight of the bag makes me pause a little, but I figure it must be the trophy and she never got that axe out. Shaking my head slightly I announce my presence, "Looking good. I see you're still down an axe. Anyways, so I brought a little gift. Want to open it now or wait until we're at your parent's place?"
