Your gun clear now clear you keep up the shots against the jittery creature, placing another right into it's belly but unfortunately not really where any of it's more vital organs are. There is a spurt of blood but like before the Gecko keeps coming at you. Before you can shoot again it backs it's claw against your arm, throwing your aim off for a moment before it's claws keep going and put some long tears in your duster. Nothing that wasn't fixable, but annoying. Further still though is when it's thick clawed hand slams against your side. It's doesn't cut you or even scratch you, but it would certainly leave a good sized bruise.

Still, it seems to pause after the attack, so you shove it back, not caring for hows and whys at the moment before you place another shot into it's torso. It jerks then stumbles back, its eyes once again refocusing in on you. It goes to attack again, legs coiling then... it goes limp. It suddenly just slumps forward onto it's face, unmoving. It's eyes are open, but when you give it a quick kick with your gun pointed at it you confirm it's lifeless. Things must've mutated to have some crazy adrenaline response to injury or something.

Anyway. The fight is won, and thankfully no other Gecko's seem to have come from they're burrow. Now you just had to decide how you wanted to proceed.

Joy quickly fires another round and piercing its stomach again but the gecko wasn't even slowing down despite the amount of blood coming from it. It's like this thing didn't feel any pain or something. She throws up her left arm to block it's claws from getting at her body, the claws digging into her duster and tearing some holes into it. She tries to line up a shot but the she felt it's clawed hand slam against her side, leaving a good sized bruise under her clothes as she winces a bit. With a strong shove of her arm she tries to force back the gecko and succeeds, giving her the time she needed to place another shot in it's chest. This time she at least got it to react to getting shot as it stumbles back but it only lasts for a moment before it gets ready to attack. She aims and gets ready to fire again till it suddenly went limp and fell over.

Still on guard Joy walks over to the body and gives it a small kick to confirm that it is a corpse. The young woman falls back onto her rear panting a bit as her adrenaline fades and she takes a moment to breathe before reloading her weapons and attempting to quickly fix any damage so they don't jam again. Since there were no geckos that came out of the burrow she takes some time to quickly repair her clothes, especially her pants, before she goes towards the burrow.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Sorry for the long delay, Back again. Now with improved comp! Updated your inventory by the way.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Encounter Roll: 17 + 1(PER) = 18

The fight over and the geckos out here dead your free to take stock of yourself. Really it sort of went well. You didn't expend much ammunition, which was always good. However your clothes certainly took a beating, but that was sort of par the course with wasteland creatures these days. Sadly you lacked the means to repair it yourself, but if you brought it back to the general store in town your sure McCraw could fix it up for you. Thankfully getting clothing repaired was pretty cheap nowadays what with high demand and all... due to creatures and raiders ripping it off women. But hey! Beats death right?

You gather your pant leg and store it in your pack, then descend into the cave thankfully like many caves of the wastelands those one is dotted in all sorts of bio luminescent fungus and mushrooms. It was still pretty dark compared to the outside light but it was better then pitch blackness. You take your time and watch your footing, being as quiet as you can be as you step over and avoid anything that might give you away. Eventually the somewhat narrow passage finally comes to a sharp bend to the left, and as you peer around the corner you see a single gecko loitering in a hollowed out chamber ahead. At least thats all you can see though. There could possibly be others out of view nearby. You could either try to engage from where you are in a similar manner to what you did the first couple geckos, or you could try to draw this one out toward you and maybe out of the cave, but likely lose out on the chance to use your more powerful hunting rifle.

Joy grunts in annoyance as she remembers that she went through her last sewing kit a while ago so she won't be able to fix any of her clothing right now. Putting the pant leg into her pack and moves to the cave entrance. Making sure her rifle and pistol are loaded and hopefully less likely to jam she heads down into the cave. Watching her footing she quietly descends into the cave, keeping her eyes and ears out for any more of the geckos. Eventually she finds herself at the turn of a narrow passage and at the end around the turn she could see a single gecko in a chamber ahead, though she couldn't see the entirety of chamber so who knows if there are more or not out of her line of sight. She considered trying to lure the one gecko, but there's a risk of alerting any others that are in there and she'll lose her surprise attack. Deciding to aim from where she is her rifle points down at the Gecko and once her breathing was calm and her sights lined up she pulls the trigger.

Green Gecko 1: 4/10 HP

You decide to stay in place rather then try to lure the Gecko out, risking potentially a bigger fight to deal some bigger damage. You get on a knee you get to work a take aim, and after a few moments and pull the trigger. The bang is louder then normal as the rock walls keep the sound in, but the bullet flies true enough. It strikes center mass, but a bit low to hit it's less critical organs. True like the others though despite the mortal injury the mutant lizard immediately breaks for you, following the noise of your shot while you cycle the action. Quickly it's eyes lock onto you, and it rapidly does it's unnatural gecko run at you.

While it's a shame your shot could go a bit higher to strike it's heart or head though, on the plus side it seems the Gecko had been alone in that chamber. A lucky break for you, as it meant this fight would be quite a bit easier if it was only going to be one on one. That said though now that you had fired in the cave it was safe to assume that perhaps all the geckos were at least alert, if not immediately nearby.

Joy curses under her breath as her shot goes a bit low and hits the chest too low to hit a vital organ. Like the other Gecko, nothing but death can slow it down and she sees it rushing for her as soon as her shot hit. It was also quick to locate her like last time and it's run is as unnerving as ever. Nevertheless she couldn't slow down either so loading up the next shot she aims a bit higher this time and fires at the gecko.

At the very least it seemed this one is alone so she won't need to worry about others, but any more in the cave will be more alert now as her rifle shot probably echoed through the cave. Whether or not her shot hit she will once again drop her rifle and pull out her pistol as this thing will be too close for her rifle to be nearly as effective as her pistol.

Thankfully when the gecko rushes you it's forced to enter the narrow cave path you were still in, reducing it's chances of dodging a shot fired by you by a significant margin. Course as you take your next shot you prefer to think it's your skill rather then the terrain that helps you shoot the thing right through the center of it's neck. There is a spray of blood behind it as your round punches through soft flesh before colliding with it's spine and shattering it. The gecko dies instantly, face planting and skidding forward on the dirt and rock floor for a good six meters before it finally stops a scant dozen feet away from you.

That handled, you stay still for a bit just to be safe in case any other gecko's are not long behind it. After a twenty seconds or so your confident none are hot on your trail so you cautiously move forward into the chamber the gecko had been hiding in. It's a decent sized rock chamber, with two exits: one straight ahead and one to your left. More interesting though is that there is the remains of some old scavenger or hunting camp nearby. A fire place, an old torn sleeping bag, an old tarp and a few boxes small boxes. You check it out.

Loot roll: 11

You keep your wits about you as you go about seeing if there is anything useful. There isn't much, but you manage to scrounge up twenty rounds of 5.56mm rifle rounds, as well as a fission battery. Not the most useful items, but the battery would sell for decent at least.

Calming her breathing and aiming down the iron sights of her pistol she aims her shot a bit higher so she wouldn't hit the torso this time. As the gecko rushes into the narrow cave tunnel she is in Joy knew that this is her time to shoot as the gecko has much less room to more. She pulls the trigger and watches as the bullet tears though the center of the creature's neck and instantly kills it. The beast falls to and skids around the ground as Joy takes a moment to breathe though she keeps her guard up incase any other geckos might be around ready to pounce on her. When she sees that there are none she is quick to reload her weapons with spare ammo before going into the chamber.

Looking around she doesn't see any other creatures in the cave though she finds that this place used to be some kind of campsite at one time. Taking a moment to check the boxes she doesn't find much, 5.56mm rounds that are no use to her but she could trade them for other bullets she can use and a fission battery that she can sell for caps. Once she had the ammo and battery in her bag she decides to take the left path out of the chamber.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Just to be clear, it was the rifle that killed the gecko, hence the high damage. Also for the sake of clarity, when an enemy 'closes the gap' there will be that grace period to take another rifle shot without the aim penalty I talked about before. It'll only come into affect after the gecko has attacked you, but that will usually almost always be after your attack since you always get to go first in combat. Just thought I'd let you know!

Also, had a fun idea for per fight modifiers depending on terrain or other potential factors, that I'm going to try out here. They might not always be there, and they might not always be good, but they should be interesting I think.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Encounter Roll: 16 + 1 = 17 (Gained Initiative)

Taking your gains you keep going forward, stepping light on your feet as you trek down the left path. Quickly it begins to descend even deeper into the earth, zigzagging a bit and getting a bit narrow but now enough to obstruct you, or a gecko for that matter. Eventually you come into a large chamber, overseen by a good ten foot cliff that winds off to the right and downward toward the floor. There are stalagmites and stalactites of varying size around, however as you peer over the edge of the cliff what worries you more is when you catch the sight of four geckos, all alert and prowling about, but thankfully still dim enough that none are near the path to get to where you are. This was good, as it would take longer for the geckos to close in on you unlike your other fights when they could take a straight path to you. However there was still four of them, which would spell some rough times for you if several of them got to close before you could pick them off.

Now another option of course was to simply withdraw and scout the other path, hoping for a more favorable engagement with less enemies. However there was no guarantee the other way would be easier, and it could potentially meaning giving up your advantage if you were not so successful sneaking back this way.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Combat modifier: All enemies will need to 'close the gap' twice to reach Joy.

Moving down the path that descends deeper down with zigzagging tunnels was a bit nerve racking for Joy as she was on constant high alert for any danger that might be just around the corner. Eventually though she comes to a large chamber with her coming out on to a cliff that overlooked the chamber. Getting low she moves to the side of the cliff and peers over it and then curses under her breath when she spots four geckos, all alert and moving about. While they didn't see her there's little chance she could take on four at once, or even three if she managed to kill one in a single shot. Sneaking back away from the cliff's edge she takes a moment to think.

Checking her belonging and looking around where she is Joy tries to see if she could possibly set up some kind of trap, anything that would harm or slow down the Gecko's if they run up at her. This way she could pick them off with her rifle as best she could before they got close and then have the trap either slow them or take one out.

Taking a step back you try to see if there is anything you might be able to make the coming fight easier, but you don't have much to deal with. Really you just had your food and ammo, along with fission newly pilfered fission battery. It almost saddens you to see how empty your back was, but it was important to travel light and bring only what was needed on a long trip like the one you were on. Still, you rack your brain.

INT roll: 20!

As you inspect your stuff, really you find yourself staring at the fission battery more then anything. Then in hits you. With some small amount of tinkering that could you manage with your knife, you could actually jury-rigged it to be a powerful explosive. You'd probably get some rads out of it, but you could probably take out two gecko's at once as long as you waited till they were close enough together. Of course, using it as such would mean you wouldn't get value from selling the battery, which would be a shame. If you wanted, you could try to search the other path to see if you might have an easier fight, in any at all, and perhaps find another solution to make this fight easier.

Looking at her surroundings and then at her bag Joy stares at the fission battery for some time until it hits her; she remembers spending plenty of time going over scrap she's found and being taught what the importance of each item and how each can be used. She remembers that with fission batteries they can be jury rigged into an explosive, however it means she loses a good piece of scrap which could sell for a good amount. With a sigh she thinks to herself before gathering her things and heading back to the other path; it didn't seem that the geckos are going anywhere right now and maybe if they do they'll split off and make for easier targets. Retracing her steps she goes back to the previous room and takes the other path.

You back track a bit and try to check out the opposite path, carefully going down as you did the others. It soon winds off to the left like the other's so far had, but doesn't go any deeper. It quickly opens up into another smaller chamber the others one you've seen thus far. This one though is thankfully empty of any Gecko's, but it the center of the room surrounded by piles of junk there is a gecko nest full of eggs. There is nothing to stop you from taking the eggs and selling them. Your sure Joel would by them. The giant eggs made for some good omelets after all.

More interesting though is that all around the nest are various piles of junk. Given the little scavenger site you found in the last room this might've been where the guy stored whatever he found before he died however he died, which for all you knew could have been over a hundred years ago. The Gecko's probably pushed it all around to make room for the nest though hence the piles. Well whatever you suppose. Hopefully you'd find something interesting, valuable, or useful.

Loot Rolls: 17, 20!, 13

You sift through the refuse, doing your best to be quiet of course, and find that unsurprisingly most of it is junk. You do get some good stuff. Stuff that'll even help you fight those other gecko's in the opposite room! You find a couple of magazines of 10mm ammo, and even an old snub nosed 357. with six unfired bullets in the cylinder. Just as you think you won't find anything else though you lift out a half rotten wooden box and the flimsy off. Inside you find three plasma grenades! Not only were these wicked deadly, you could sell them for a could bit of caps too! What a decent find!

With her rifle in hand she makes her way back to the opposite path and starts to explore again. After a bit of walking she finds herself in an open chamber and sees that it's full of junk and eggs. Aiming her rifle she walks into the chamber and doesn't put it down until she was sure that there was no gecko protecting the eggs. Looking at the eggs she gives them each a quick poke to make sure one wasn't going to hatch on her and alert its parents. However if she could bring these eggs back she could make a good amount of caps.

Looking through the junk piles she hopes to find something useful or valuable. Luckily years of scavenging of has given her the skills and experience to efficiently and thoroughly search through scrap and junk and find things that most people would miss. First she finds some magazines of 10mm ammo which she quickly bags and then finds a 357.round revolver with six bullets in it still, making it a good addition side piece if she ends up keeping it. However the best thing she finds is three plasma grenades, very powerful explosives she can use to turn the tides against the geckos. Just one of these can take out one or two gecko's instantly. Having all the loot she could find she decides for now to leave the eggs behind since they'll only slow her down at the moment. With her additional ammo and weapons with her and no other paths to take Joy heads back to where she found the gecko's and hopes that they stayed put. She keeps her rifle up and at the ready just incase any of them wandered off towards her location.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Sorry for the extra long delay. Been visiting my parents for the last two weeks and a heat wave was roasting me alive!

Also FYI for the grenades. They will be guaranteed damage I think, with a roll to see if you hit more then 1 target. The only way it will be possible to miss is you get roll a 1 on that roll.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Sneak Roll: 14 + 1 = 15

Combat modifier: All enemies will need to 'close the gap' twice to reach Joy.

With your new loot in hand you head back to the other chamber, far more confident to deal with the four gecko's there now that you had some powerful plasma grenades to help you. Knowing the path and whats ahead of you already makes it a bit easier to approach quietly, though you have one tense moment where some soft ground makes a rock roll down the a couple feet. Luckily you hear no shrieking and breathe a sigh of relief. A lose rock was nothing out of ordinary in a cave after all.

Getting closer you get low when you see the rise that overlooks the chamber where the geckos in, and move in nice and slow/ When you get there you look over the edge to see that things were much the same way as you left. The four gecko's lounge about in the room, fairly spread out but far enough away from the path up to you that it would buy you some extra time to make use of your more powerful hunting rifle. But if you were lucky and aimed true one well thrown grenade could end more then one of these gecko's. You'd never get them all in one throw, but you could hopefully get two, maybe three of you really lucky.

Once she was back in the chamber where the four geckos still were she quietly peers over the raised ledge she is on. Looking at them it seems that they were all a bit spread out, enough that she won't be able to easily take them out with a single grenade. She had to think a bit before just throwing a grenade at one of them. She looks around and the path up to the upper ridge she is on and considers her options. She formulates a plan in her head and puts one of the plasma grenades out near her and ready to be thrown, but that will be the next step of her plan. Taking her rifle she aims for the one furthest away from the rest.

Her plan is to take her time and line up her shot so she is sure to kill the first one with a single shot from her rifle. Then as the Gecko's react she'll either try to pick another one off if they don't notice her position right away. If they do though then she'll reach for the grenade and once they were all charging up the path to her she'll throw the grenade and since they'll all need to take the same path to her the odds of her taking them all out with a single blast is higher.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Joy:-------------------Attacks with Hunting Rifle-------------------------18 + 2 = 20 (10 DAM to Green Gecko 1, enemy slain!)
Green Gecko 2:------Closes the gap!

Joy:-------------------Attacks with Plasma grenade----------------------14 + 2 = 16 (12 DAMN to Green Gecko 3 and 4, enemies slain!)
Green Gecko 4:------Closes the gap!

Your plan of action decided you make sure your new found grenades are easily accessible before slowly moving into a comfortable prone position. You take your time with your aim, making sure the ground your rest your rifle and your arms is stable and won't shift at the last moment as you take your time to line up the shot. After about thirty seconds you have the gecko closest to the rock ramp up to you in sight, then after one final deep breath to steady your nerves you get to it. You press the trigger, and the rifle booms a deafening noise in the cave and emits a huge flash of light due to the lack of a muzzle break. Your shot is true however, punching right through the first gecko heart and sending it onto it's back where it twitches in place for a bit before promptly dying.

Of course though you no time to really observe that dying, as the other gecko's immediately home in your position due to the muzzle flash of your rifle, they all screech, their lizard ears twitching and extending before they make the dash to get to you, going straight for the ramp. Their a little spaced out, but you hold back for a few moments as you get your first grenade in hand. Two of them will make it to the ramp significantly ahead of the last fourth one, which was still a pretty good scenario if not a perfect one. You press the button and hurl the now beeping explosive toward the other end of the large chamber and to the base of the rock ramp, tossing it ahead of the gecko's to make sure they run into their death, and thankfully thats exactly what they do. There is a clack off metal on stone as your plasma grenade lands right where you want it, the gecko's heading right for it not intelligent enough to understand the danger, a few seconds later they are right by it, and then it explodes. A thunderous bang fills the room as well as a bright green flash that forces you to avert your gaze for a moment. It's followed by a rush of hot wind as super heated gasses disperse, and yet you open your eyes your pleased to see two charred husks that were once geckos, laying still on some red glowing rocks.

But you still have the last gecko to deal with. It's late to avoid the explosion, but seems to have barely stumbled after the grenade went off. You even watch as it runs right through the hot area with care and runs up the ramp! You have about five to eight seconds before it gets to you, but that was enough time to hopefully finish this fight with one shot of your hunting rifle before it could close the distance and engage you in melee.

Joy steadies her breathing, then holds her breath as she takes aim and then she pulls the trigger, her rifle booming through the cave as the bullet flies out of the barrel and right into the chest of the gecko. The bullet kills it instantly as it rips through its chest and heart and the creature falls onto the ground, twitching for a moment before dying. Joy didn't have time to celebrate her perfect shot as now the other geckos were running right at her and she has to put her next part of her plan into action.

Knowing that they are running to the ramp which is the only way to her she grabs one of the plasma grenades and gets ready to throw it. She sees that two of them took a lead over the last one which means she can't get the rest of them in one blast. However getting two out of the three wasn't bad at all so she takes the change while she has it. Pushing down on the button of the plasma grenade to arm it she then throws it to the base of the natural made ramp before the geckos made it there. Right as they got to it the grenade goes off and she has to look away from the bright green flash of it for a moment before she could the two charred husks of the now dead geckos. She could actually smell the charred corpses which made her cover her nose for a moment. Now there was only one left.

She sees the last one runs up the ramp so she grabs her rifle and moves as far away from the ramp as possible before aiming her rifle, though she makes sure that her pistol is ready just incase. With her rifle aimed she waits till the creature is at the top of the ramp before she takes the shot.

Pleased as punch everything seems to working out so far, you decide to keep your other two plasma grenades in reserve, not wanting to use them now that you had the upper hand. You do a quick glance around to see if you should change positions, but currently right now the place you were in offered the best line of sight of the room without retreating out of it, so you stay in place and just shift a little to make you were facing the right direction to open fire at the gecko as it comes up the ramp. Luckily you don't have to wait for long, the oversized green lizard jumping up the ramp and barreling toward you. However the little bluff that leads to you is narrow, meaning that it has little room to move. You take advantage of the situation then, lining up and a shot and firing. One thunderous ear ringing bang later you send a bullet straight through it's chest. It takes a few more uneasy steps, then face plants onto the rock floor of the cave around fifteen meters away from you.

Whew! You won! Against four gecko's no less! Teaches those horny mutant lizards!

Loot roll: 11

Seeing as the gecko's were all dead, and the no more seemed on route from the one unexplored exit in the chamber, you scan the room for goodies. You'd be able to make some decent money getting some gecko hide from the backs of these gecko's messy as that was, but you also find a small pile of collected scrap in one corner. You don't find much, but you do find a small unlocked safe which contains a couple of preserved packs of cigarettes still wrapped in plastic and, thankfully, a small flat tipped screw driver! Now you just needed some bobby pins.

That done you look to the last exit in the cave. You can't help but sigh, feeling a bit tired of dealing with geckos already. But with any luck this would be last chamber you'd have to deal with. And with a little extra luck there wouldn't be any damned geckos in it.

Luckily for Joy the natural form of the caves here gave her the perfect set up for her shot against the last gecko as the bluff that lead to her was a bit narrow so the gecko had little room to evade. The moment it got up the ramp and ran towards her she fired her shot and the bullet tears right through its chest and soon it falls over dead. From where she sat she stares at the downed creature through the sights of her rifle as she makes sure it isn't moving. Slowly she lowers her rifle and sits back as she lets out some panting breathes, her adrenaline fading as the fight against the four geckos was quickly over.

Slowly she stands up and pockets her last plasma grenades to keep for later; she was definitely keeping them just incase. With the geckos dead she takes their hides and packs them up before searching through the scrap and she eventually finds some preserved packs of cigarettes which go for a good price and a flathead screwdriver. With some bobby pins she could attempt to pick locks with the screwdriver but for now she packs away her new 'treasures' and looks around. With a sigh she sees the last exit in the cave and lifts her rifle back up with her guard. She had to make sure she takes them all out and either destroy or take any eggs or else the nest might just return later on. With another sigh she searches the last section of the cave.
