Bio: Her mother was originally a X-com marksman fighting against the initial invasion who managed to escape after the HQ feel due to the fact that her mother's squad was deployed at the time. By the time her mother managed to make her way back, Karen's father had already been abducted, leaving five year old Karen to have to fend for herself for about a month, managing to live off what food was left in the house. After being reunited with her mother, they left for the North American wilderness, living off the land, having her mother teach her the art of sniping, and taking potshots against alien activities.

After some years they joined a community of like minded individuals which eventually turned into a resistance cell, and despite cooperating with the newly reformed Xcom on multiple occasions Karen's mother refused to rejoin, as it would mean either separating from her daughter again, or Karen being constantly on the frontlines. Unfortunately Karen defied her mother's wishes after her mother disappeared after a raid on said resistance cell, motivating Karen to join up with Xcom to strike back against the aliens that stole both of her parents away.

It was still the early stages of her time with the reformed XCOM, but you knew that this iteration was somewhat different. For one thing, it was all women.

When your little resistance cell was contacted by XCOM, your mother refused to join, citing its dangers. Indeed, many of the men and women from your small community who went with XCOM operatives never returned, and the few that did spoke of the brutality of fighting plasma and mag weapon equipped Advent forces who cut through soldiers time after time. The only way to survive was to strike fast, strike softly and give Advent as little opportunity as possible to use their overwhelming superiority in firepower. It seemed a near perfect fit for you to volunteer your skills as a sniper to XCOM, but it was somewhat surprising that they brought you into a combat operation without even vetting your actual ability with the rifle.

Your briefing was short and somewhat disconcertingly brief: you and a pair of girls from your resistance cell were joining an XCOM operative to conduct a supply raid and steal as much Advent materials as you could. One of the other girls was even younger than you, a tiny nervous looking chinese girl with her pink hair braided into girlish pigtails while the other was a russian woman in her mid forties with a face hardened by trauma. Leading your group was the assigned XCOM operative, a slender nigerian corporal by the name of Amira. Her briefing was a simple description of the area of ops, and the route your team would take to get to the ops zone. A car drive to a point twenty kilometers away from the area of ops, then a one day full pack march through rough terrain, it was surprising that such a mish mash team would have done it. Each of the women, yourself included, looked more suited to be on the cover of an old world fashion magazine, but corporal Amira refused to entertain any conversation between the unorthodox squad makeup. Amira maintained tight opsec during the trek, and instructed you all to take a rest under the stars after many hours of marching. Sleep, restful and welcome, refreshed your exhausted body until a boom echoed across the forest and Amira grabbed you and the other girls to make a flat out run.

Fifteen minutes later, you all arrived at the source of the explosion, and saw that it was a derailed supply train. Starting from a hill overlooking this arid patch of colorado desert, the four of you could see two pairs of advent troopers keeping watch, with a single officer staying within the armored train cabin. 'Ok, Advent will probably take a few more hours to send a rescue team. This interception site was well planned, but I have no idea why Central assigned you rookies to this op, or why I was sent here. ' grumbles Amira as she shoulders her M4 with Masterkey underslung shotgun. 'At least Karen has experience shooting,' she says, eyeing the M14 EBR sniper she assigned you. 'Right Karen, I'm putting you on overwatch. Amy, Natalia, you two are running interference. Karen, give me your sitrep on how you want to direct this op.'

I shake my head at how desperate they are to accept any person willing and able without even checking their skill level. As for the entirely women thing... that was more puzzling... Maybe all the available men already died? A cheery thought...
Regardless, I finally getting a chance to bloody those damn X-ray's noses. The operation sounds simple enough, though it does make me question the quality of our leadership since it sounds like something my mom would come up with on the fly and elaborate on when she got the chance. Still at least I'm better equipped, I think as I look over the M14, a semi-auto rifle compared to my old Springfield rifle bolt-action.

The hike wasn't as bad for me as it looked for the others... though I've had experience with such long journeys, though typically not with such a load. Still, I was very use to keeping quiet for hours on end since that is also something my mom drilled into me.

I stroke my chin as I looked over the sight before just spouting my ideas, "Well obviously if we can perform a synchronized kill on those four sentries, it would save us a lot of problems... but I don't think we got the coordination to pull that off effectively... That officer might be a problem, since considering how armored that train looks, I think bullet proof glass is a given so I'd have to wait for him to leave the train before I can take him out... Honestly I think our best bet is if you three close in as a group and try to take two of those sentries out ASAP, before the other two can react, and hopefully the officer will come out and I can put a bullet in his dome. Unless you prefer me helping dealing with the sentries and save the officer for last?"

Amira grits her teeth and then nods. 'I think three of us can take out two unaware sentries. Ok Karen, you're on overwatch. We're moving into position on the two visible x-rays. Keep an eye on the officer, I'll take these rookies with me to take out the first pair of sentries. '

Before Amira goes down the cliff, she grimaces and then takes out something from her pack. 'Ok ladies, time for your first piece of XCOM kit. I got these from the latest supply run by HQ, its a new piece of equipment. Meant to help us absorb any impact from falling down heights, and to let us climb a fair number of pipes easily. Though...'

She reaches in and removes four sets of fishnet stockings. '... I can't say I think much of the design.' she finishes.

Amy eyes the fishnets with suspicion, while Natalia looks at them approvingly. 'Oh, these are nice,' she says, letting the kit go full length. 'I used to wear something similar when I was a model.'

'Oh, you were a model as well?' says Amy, suddenly turning to look at the beautiful russian blonde approvingly. 'I used to model, then I found more success as a youtube star!'

Amira grumbles more at that news. 'Why the fuck am I saddled with girls who were models and fucking actresses?' she sighs, taking off her trousers and putting on the fishnets. 'Maybe this is why there are no dudes in this op,' she says as the white metallic fishnets slide over her ebony skin, contrasting beautifully in the morning sun. 'Dudes may not quite like this type of equipment.'

That statement may make sense on the surface, but not really upon further scrutiny. Any advantage would be something a grunt would appreciate... so why women?

'Karen, gear up then get in position. I'm moving in on your go.' Amira says as commandingly as she can while wearing white panties and fishnet stockings as she puts her trousers back on. Amy and Natalia are giggling and looking at each others bodies, with Natalias thong and Amys pantyless lower body presenting a highly stimulating sight.

I nod at Amira's orders as she presents our special equipment to which I blink at for a moment... Well I suppose it made some amount of sense... Webbing is very good at gripping slick surfaces since it focuses the force... Like chains on tires, but... I shake my head. My disapproval isn't going to change anything. Still... I am disturbed by how the others react... Namely how they are fucking models before this... I write them off as lost causes, and note that if I can only get one of them out of this alive, it's going to be Amira, since she at least seems to be capable of holding her own.

As the two of the start to strip I can't help but feel a bit insecure... After all I'm wearing boxer briefs and a sports bra compared with the fact as I've never even kissed a boy. I slap my face reminding myself that regardless of my inferiority as a woman, I'm far superior as a soldier, which means if it comes down to the wire, I'm the one surviving, not these self-important bimbos! with that said or rather thought, I quickly remove my belt and let my pants fall to the ground as I sit on a rock to equip the climbing aid, before re-equipping my pants and belt.

I once again nod at Amira's orders, looking around for an appropriate location to set up before giving Amira a rough time it will take me to get in position, giving myself a few extra minutes leeway in case some difficult terrain pops up, before heading out to my vantage point to set up overwatch.

For all their uselessness at maintaining proper discipline, the girls were at least physically fit and able to follow orders. Once the fishnets were equipped under their trousers, the girls jumped off the cliff with Amira and then ran from cover to cover, M4 carbines at the ready.

Encounter roll: 10

Taking advantage of the cover, the three troopers were able to set themselves up to form a proper kill zone to take out the two sentries. Unfortunately, you can see that the other two sentries had started walking around from the other side of the train and were approaching the carefully prepared ambush position. Both advent troopers would be in a perfect position to flank Amiras team on the ground once shit hit the fan, all while maintaining superior cover!

I click my tongue as I notice the other pair converging on Amira's position, and I radio over, "Heads up, the other pair is heading your way. I can attempt to force them into cover to give you time to finish up and maneuver to better cover, but we'll need to do this quick." I also note the direction they are coming from and the closest cover from them.

With my warning given, I set might sights on one of them, hoping that I can kill one outright before just emptying my clip in their direction to hopefully make them dive behind cover.

Taking the M14 in your hands, you keep the advent troopers head in your sights and squeeze the trigger. A sharp crack against your shoulder knocks the sight off target, but you can hear the whoops of joy from the girls below through your comms. 'Light em up!' yells Amira, getting the ground team to open fire on the two exposed sentries.

The results were... disappointing. While you reacquired your sights to take out the other troopers, the first frantic burst of fire from the ambush squad failed to hit the troopers entirely. Cries of frustration echoed through the comms net as the hail of bullets missed the targets entirely, allowing the two soldiers to dash into cover behind some crates that had fallen off the derailed train whilw the last trooper ducked behind a tree in flanking position on the girls on the ground.

Thankfully this gave your team time to reacquire targets. You kept your new target in sight as you fired at his cover, and one shot clipped his helmet, sending the man crashing to the ground. Before he could get back up, you send another shot through his neck, silencing him forever.

Amira showed her relative experience as a soldier, staying in cover and firing a burst at a trooper that had squatted behind a crate. As the bullets forced him lower behind cover, she shifted her aim and blew away an exposed leg. When he collapsed to the ground, her shotgun rang once and blew a gaping hole inside his chest.

The other two soldiers sadly still did not manage to acquit herself. Amy was yelling incoherently into the comms as she fired her rifle wildly at the advent trooper whioe Natalias shots were on target but ineffective ij penetrating the troopers composite shoulder armor. Luckily his own fire seemed less than accurate, blasts of orange fire failing to hit the girls behind their low rock cover

Thosr blasts also failed to destroy the tree they ended up hitting, something that surprised Amira. 'The fuck? Advent weaponry normally levels an entire city block with each salvo!' she yells.

Academic theories on the sudden downscaling of advent weaponry would havr to wait. You could see from your vantage point that the officer was pressing some buttons on his console, causing one of the derailed containers to start hissing open... and from that container you can hear a sound that hadnt been heard since the Advent arrival killed all mammals on Earth.

I mutter quietly to myself as the two fashion models perform just as well as I expected them too, before focusing on down the enemies flanking them.

After finishing up my two, I notice the officer messing with the console and snap a shot at him, not expecting to penetrate the glass, but maybe I can give him a heart attack at least. I couldn't help but have my hairs on my neck stand up at the sound of dogs. Something was wrong here. My sights quickly turn towards the opening container, using the time to switch mags as I ask, "Amira. What are your orders?"

You didnt expect much from your snapped shot, but the results were spectacular nonetheless. As the officer frantically operated his console, your bullet went through the not so bulletproof glass. Even more impressively, the bullet hit the console and destroyed something valuable inside. The officer screamed a strangely inhuman scream of echoing pain as his face was pelted with chunks of exploding metal, and then he crumpled to the floor, totally incapacitated.

Amiras team turned towards the sounds of the dogs. 'I dont care if Advent managed to resurrect all the animals they killed so long ago, if Advent is doing it then its for an evil purpose!' she screamed, turning her guns on the onrusbing dogs.

And they were dogs, but barely recognizable as so. Four legged creatures with distinctly canine ears, their muzzles were unlike anything you saw from your youth or from the records. Eyes covered by a mask similar to the troopers and with short brown coats, every onrushing dog was a compact package of muscle and teeth... and cock.

'Is that dogs dick hard?!' yelled Amy as she fired into the onrushing pack. This time she and Natalia finally acquited themselves, firing straight into the dogs. All three soldiers managed to score solid hits on the animals, and three of the four dogs went down in a hail of bullets. The last one ignored the death of his comrades and continued straight for the women, with the sound of another pack being released from the train container.

'Karen, get down here and head to where the officer was!' yelled Amira into the comms. 'He should have been guarding our objective, a box labelled Nox. Thats the critical objective. We'll hold the line here. Once target is secured call for hot extract. Say the words Firebrand and Egress in sequence, and the control filter will click through to XCOM command.'

My jaw dropped at that shot. First off... you armored an entire train but didn't think to put in bulletproof glass? I don't know if I should punch the builder for shoddy work, or kiss him for it. Second How the hell did I make that shot?

Not that I had time to revel in my amazing shot as I saw the dogs tear out of their cages. What the hell kind of dogs are those? Is that what they did with the family dog?!?

Amira's orders snap me out of my dumbstruck awe of the twisted abomination of dogs, and I instinctively nod, not that she'd see it from her position before slinging my rifle and making a mad break for the officer, keeping my eyes peeled for this 'Nox,'

Jumping off the cliff, you feel the usefulness of the fishnets. As you land the lattice contracts, transferring the impact from your heel up through your entire leg up to the thigh. Slight discomfort throughout the entire leg was vastly preferable to the entire leg snapping in half when landing.

As you run through to the armored car, you see Amiras team firing at the dogs still. Amiras shots kill her target right where it was, and as it fell backwards, you could see a strange orange mist spray out from the dog as it expired. Luckily, it was far away enough from the team to affect them, though that was only because of Amiras marksmanship.

The other two girls continue to demonstrate surprising skill, firing and hitting their next two targets. 'Wheee!' squeals Amy as she marks her second kill. The last two dogs still charge through, and they mamage to close the distance to reach Amira and Natalia.

While the girls outside deal with the threat, you manage to reach the cabin. Clearly it was just shielded from standard impact, and not high velocity sniper fire. You see that your round was lucky enough to smash through some delicate instruments, and it fried the advent officee. His mask had shattered from the feedback, likely the result of internal electronics detonating. You knew that the advent werent quite human, but this was surprising. He looked like a solid fusion of alien and human DNA, his face a chiseled portrait of hypermasculinity, ugly yet strangely alluring.

You manage to pull yout gaze away from the strange man to examime the control cabin, and find a set of lockers at the back of the cabin. Each locker had a canister in it, and all were clearly labelled 'Nox'. In addition to the stencilled red 'Nox' on the 1 meter long silver tank, a set of laser etched words accompanied it. In total they read 'HIDNA Nox Z4 NAC15', 'CSDNA Nox Z2 NAC6', 'ESDNA Nox Z1 NAC11' 'CXDNA Nox Z3 NAC16' and 'EXDNA Nox Z5 NAC18' 'HSDNA Nox Z1 NAC19'

The Z terms were familiar, designating the zones which Advent had divided the world into, and NAC referred to the New Advent Calendar, which you were now 19 years into , but what Nox or the other terms were was something that escaped you.

A blinking light on the remains of thr console catches your attention, and you see that the officer had, in his dying breath, called for an emergency reinforcement squad. An advent troop carrier was bearing down on your poaition, with a full squad of four troopers less than ten minutes away.

As I run for the train, I do note that maybe the three of them will make it out of this after all.

With that said, I don't spend more than a glance at the dead officer... not when the threat of whatever those mutant's dog's ill intents is looming heavy over the situation. After confirming that I found what I was looking for I start taking the canisters and shoving them into my backpack, warning Amira, "I found several canisters of this Nox stuff... But it looks like we got an Advent rapid response team coming in... Should we still call evac here or should we high-tail it back in the woods first?"

Shoving the five meter long containers in your pack is tough, and you realize that you're going to have great difficulty carrying the canisters with you. Each weighed about twelve pounds, so carrying sixty pounds of additional equipment was going to be taxing on your body. From the sounds of things, it wasn't only your body being taxed.

Looking out the window, you can see Amiras team gunning down the advancing advent guard dogs. The dogs had all closed position with the resistance team, and they were starting to wreak havoc, darting between each womans position and preventing them from getting an easy shot without risking a deadly friendly fire incident. Amira cursed as her burst failed to hit one of the dogs, and she yelped in surprise when he leapt onto her, powerful jaws ripping away at her kevlar vest.

Natalia screamed incoherently as she was also set upon by the last dog, but luckily Amy kept her head. She emptied her clip into the dog attacking Natalia, and from your vantage point you could see the advent beast.... kind of explode. Not like his whole body detonated, but more like a sudden release of a strange orange haze when the dog died. 'Oh! Oooooo!' squeaked the tiny chinese girl into the radio, her voice sounding strained but not quite in pain. Natalia herself started panting, a sort of deep heavy breathing, and she was making strange gurgling sounds at the back of her throat, and you cannot help but recall tales of how chrysalids used dead humans as incubators for their eggs, the meat puppets growling and humming all the way.

Thankfully, its clear that it hadn't affected the team that much, as Natalia was still able to levy her rifle at the dog attacking Amira and she finished off all the remaining rounds in her M4 to take out the dog. Again, the strange orange haze enveloped the girls there, and even Amira was panting heavily despite not taking any visible damage.

'Hey... hey... hey Karen...' breathed Amira into the comms net, for some reason not bothering to cover up her shredded top, letting her magnificent breasts - she was an incredibly fit and sexy woman underneath her heavy XCOM field dress - bounce freely in the cool air. 'Karen... I, uh, I think somethings happened to us here... um, you make the decision. Firebrand can be here within an hour to extract... you, you make the call. I... need to rest for a second. We'll be ready to intercept the first advent reinforcement team.'

The three women continued panting into the audio net as you look around for information to help your decision. You can't carry all five Nox packages yourself, and a quick look at the train manifest shows a great deal more cargo still untouched. Elerium canisters, shipments of alloy, it was a treasure trove of material that any resistance cell, let alone XCOM, would be eager to receive.

But holding the position would be tough. The first advent wave was arriving in five minutes, and another wave was approaching a half hour after that. Staying and fighting would guarantee an engagement, but running offered a possibility of hiding.

I curse to myself as I haul the awkwardly long containers out of the train as I witnessed the end of the fight.

The though of chrystalids brought up other memories... namely my mom's utter terror of them... So much so that if she saw one, she'd pick me up and run before I even had a chance to see it. Still wonder what those terrors looks like... well hopefully I never have to find out. What the hell is wrong with them though?

As I move in I listen to Amira's disjointed speech, before sigh and looking around... We're not going to be able to get far with them in this condition... especially with hauling the cargo out of here... But fighting would be also dangerous.

Finally I curse and activate my comm saying, "Firebird Egress... We have secured the objective but enemy reinforcements are coming in quickly. In addition the rest of the squad has been to some sort of chemical weapon that is disorienting them. We need hot extraction now."

With that done, I try to scout out the area looking for anything that came be used to give us the advantage... Mines would be great, but even just surveying for really good cover would be great at this point.

Over the tac net, a deep female voice rumbles over the comms. 'Da, Fireteam Freyja. ETA sixty.' Amira clicks in as Firebrand talk. 'Ooooh.... louisiana.... mmm beads...'

Silence rings over the air for a second, then Firebrand sighs. 'You girls as well, huh.' she says in resignation. 'Hold position, I have reinforcement team present. Fireteam Sif ready for assist. Keep it fast, Advent interceptors coming in hot, my corridor has five MANPAD teams on station, not enough to stay in position more than fifteen minutes once I arrive. Firebrand out.'

With the cessation of comms, you figure its time to survey the battlefield. You note that the defensive of the derailed train are still available to use, and there are a few caches of grenades to supplement your grenade stashes across three different derailed train carts. Pity that all Advent plasma weaponry was unusable because of gene-coding, though it seemed that they weren't exactly killing at the moment.

Examining the turret control schema, you note that it would be risky to hack it. You can successfully flip the IFF codes for the system to recognize all Advent transponders as hostile as opposed to friendly, letting your team get an additional two turrets to help fight against a full twelve-man Advent Quick Reaction Force. Thankfully they were coming in two waves, but you still would need assistance.

Unfortunately, you note that the IFF terminal for the transponders is tied to another derailed train cart full of guard dogs, at least thats what you figure from the pawprint logo on the screen. A partial success in hacking would release the dogs while activating the turrets, and a full failure would release the dogs only.

No risk no reward... now nat 20... let's see what that special is.

I grumble a bit... clearly they had an idea of what is going on, but now isn't the time for questions. I'll save that for when we are out of danger. I look over the console and bite my lip... it's risky but those two turrets can be the difference between life and death. They managed to take on eight dogs before, and while they are somewhat disoriented, we have grenades and I'll be helping them out so it shouldn't be too bad. Sighing I come to my conclusion.

Dragging the caches of grenades to our holdout point, I inform them of my plan and to be ready before quickly adding, "Unless one of you happens to know how to hack, I'll be doing it myself."

When you bring the grenade caches out, you find yourself breathing a sigh of relief as the girls seem less disoriented. Amira has taken away her entire ripped kevlar vest, wearing only a sports bra and equipment webbing. 'I hate the colorado heat,' she grumbles while panting. Amy and Natalia are both reacquainting their senses, though both seem flush and are looking at each other with hooded eyes.

'Theres something in the blood of the dogs,' mutters Amira. 'Its... affecting me. I... I feel... you know what, fuck it, not worth mentioning.' she says curtly. 'Anyways, it looks like we have a total of twelve additional grenades we can use here. If we take cover behind the treeline, we'll be in full cover but the Advent can choose an LZ that has cover as well, but if we stay here with the train area our cover is worse, but the LZ for the advent will be totally hot and they'll be exposed before they can get to cover.'

Looking at the turret positions, Amira sighs. 'Unfortunately, I don't know how to hack. Here, take this,' she says, passing you an XCOM tablet. 'Its an autohacker, but you need to know when the capacitor overloader should be triggered to stop the physical antihack mechanisms kick in. Hit it too early and you fail, too late and you fail.'

Amy pipes up. 'Oooh, I know how to hack! My youtube channel used to get so many perverts, so I had to set up my own site! Less perverts, but more dedicated, so I learned network engineering to stop them crashing my systems!'

Natalia grimaces. 'If you go with Karen, and something goes wrong, we will be exposed out here...'

"Hey... Colorado is better than Texas," I pat her on the shoulder as I look around, "I say we hide out here and throw a few grenades at them as soon as they land... I'd rather have less cover against fewer fuckers than the other way around."

As Amira hands me the autohacker, I do point out, "I do have some experience in hacking advent stuff... mostly simple stuff like low-security doors and stuff..."

At Amy's enthusasim, I simply retort, "Unless you were doing that on an Advent network, I doubt it's the same... Besides, there is a bit of a difference between preventing a hack and performing a hack." I do keep back that of all the people here, she is the one I trust the least.

Amy pouts. 'Oh, okay, fiiiine. Go ahead and hack then.'

With that, you go into the control cabin again and plug the autohacker universal port into the nearest input jack. The malleable mold morphs into the appropriate shape and plugs in, and the autohacker goes to work. Watching the various progress bars, you watch for the perfect moment to hit the capacitor overloader.

Watching the various progress bars, you note that the intrusion detection mechanism seems to be advancing through the autohackers channels, and you hit the discharger. This results in a partial success of the hack, and one of the turrets comes online, switching its IFF transponders to 'all advent hostile' and nothing else is a target.

But at the same time, one of the last two cages on the back of the advent train tunnel hisses open, and four more dogs come charging out. 'More mutts!' yells Natalia, bringing her rifle to bear.

'No, grenades!' screams Amy as she rushes for the box of grenades.

'Save those grenades!' yells Amira. 'We need them for the Advent QRF. Karen, whats the Advent situation? Advise on excessive firepower!'

You look at the radar plotter, and see the problems. The first advent carrier of six troops will arrive in five minutes, and the next one will come ten minutes after that. But a wave of four troop transports, a full twenty six soldiers from four different bases, is also coming in to arrive approximately forty minutes after that. You figure that when Firebrand arrives with Fireteam Sif, they'll be in time to face four consecutive waves of six advent soldiers before enough of a breathing window to extract the loot comes about.

Shit... How I wish I had more formalized training in hacking Advent systems... Oh well, I got one of the turrets up. With that said, I lean out the cabin door with my rifle to take a shot at the mutated mutts.

I also curse to myself, "God fucking dammit it... how many more fuckers are they going to send our way?!? It's just been consistently going up! Fucking Officer." I remind myself to shoot him in the head after dealing with the mutts for good measure.
