General Degurechaff listens in complete silence, her icy eyes seeming to stare right into your soul with it's intensity even as she sits there somewhat demurely, her hands folded in front of her. You can't help but feel slightly nervous as you give your short and sweet debrief. In fact, enough so that you might've given root to some suspicions about yourself. When you mention you interrogated the prisoner with your 'disciplinary tool', you leave just enough of pause as you struggle to quickly say something other then the strict truth that catches Tanya's attention. She shows no great outward change in expression, but her eyes narrow, her gaze seeming to bore into you more intensely. Her various staff don't seem to notice though, and she says nothing, allowing you to continue with your brief where you somehow manage to swallow your nervousness. You deliver it well enough, but you know at this point that great Tanya the Evil has caught the scent of your secret.
Thankfully though as you wrap up and ask some questions of your own, Tanya seems fit to let you have your secret for now. This event after all has the potential to ignite global conflict. "No. We tend to not monitor radio traffic in the middle of our own training areas. Not this deep into Empire territory anyway.", Tanya replies quickly before continuing, "Probing seems likely. The sacrificial nature is more questionable. Had they contacted a similar mage squad with standard equipment it's quite likely they would've emerged victorious. Luckily for us however the equipment most of your team is using is just finishing it's final evaluations, and it seems despite the vary unstable jewel core and armour your using, that it proved itself quite superbly. Along with that rifle of yours. Add in a good mix of veterans from the previous world war in your team, and a numerical advantage. Well... it would seem that your ambushers had fortunately picked the worst possible target to hit.
"I've already dispatched another mage wing to secure the area of your battle, which will then be joined by a few hundred or so regular infantry later in trucks to comb the area and find the downed mages. They likely won't have much, if anything, but we must do our due diligence. In the meantime, interrogators will begin to work our new detainee. We'll need any intel we can get. It's quite possible we'll here similar word about possible similar attacks at other bases shortly from now if I had to guess. Perhaps an effort to bloody our mage corps before the real fighting begins.", she explains, then turns her full attention back you. "Thank you captain. You are dismissed."
You give a smart salute and about turn, eager to get the hell out of there, yet still somewhat disappointed you can't be a fly on the wall in the general's staff meeting room. As you walk out all you hear is requesting to her gather unit commanding officers that she wants every unit on base spun up on high readiness, just in case the worst. Still it's sort of hard to think about that when your now pretty sure Tanya has gotten the impression that your aren't all that you've said you are. Thankfully at least you've given her larger problems to worry about then the secret of a mere captain.
"How'd it go ma'am?", Fritz suddenly asks you.
You don't squeal in surprise. That would be unseemly. But you practically jump out your skin was your aide scares the living daylight out of you. For such a tall buxom woman she was far stealthier then she looked.
