Spot Check (WIS, Normal): 16 + 2 = 18

The room is dark, but the torches from the previous room illuminate what you need to see. For example the raised panels just a few steps in front of the doorway. You also make out a few chests and burlap sacs. Most of them look like they've already been raided. But what sticks out the most is another door that leads to the room in front of it.

Aisha slipped up to the door. Her eyes adjusted the best as they could as she looked into the unlit room. Well, it was either unoccupied, or someone was trying to get some shut-eye. Her eyes cast over the chests and burlap sacks which appeared to have mostly been cleaned out, but there was also a door leading into the other room on this side of the hall. Leaving the search for supplies, for now, she slipped up to the door and listened for any sounds on the other side.

Listen Roll [WIS, Normal]: 16 + 2 =18

You put your ear to the door and hear footsteps. You count about two to three pairs of footsteps as well as a tapping sound. It almost sounded like a wooden staff of some sort. Oddly enough you couldn't hear any breathing inside the room.

Aisha heard the sounds of shuffling around in the next room, and what seemed like the sound of s wooden stick tapping against the floor. Perhaps there was a mage of some sort in the next room? The lack of breathing would normally be surprising, but she'd just had to deal with undead a floor lower. The fact that one of them might be a spellcaster could be trouble though.

Deciding they would likely be content circling their current room she felt safe searching out the room she was presently in without much fear of someone coming in. Turning from the door she kept her ears open for any sound that would indicate the door opening while trying to see if there was anything leftover of value in the seemingly cleared out room.

Investigation Roll (INT, Normal): 17 - 1 =16

You walk around the room giving it another once over. Looking through the empty sacs and chests, you manage to find a stack of herbs. The green plants gave off a bitter smell but you remember your tribe using them as a pick-me up (Gain Energy Grass, Gain plus 5 AP for the next three turns"

Looking around, it became obvious that this use to be a storage room. This tower must have been here for against along with it's guardians.

Looking through the stuff there really wasn't a whole lot yet, but Aisha's perseverance was rewarded as she found some herb which she recognized. It wasn't much, but it would definitely prove handy in a pinch, and if she didn't find need of it in the tower, she could always use it to extend any celebrations she might have later.

Seeing that this was a storage room and considering the Citadel skeletons downstair she wondered if this might have been a stronghold against Lucien or some other demonic force that got appropriated once its defenders fell.

Slipping over to the door where she heard the shuffling of feet and the tapping of wood she got ready to open the door suddenly and charge into battle with whatever she might find before they could have time to react.

Initiative Roll:
Cutlass Skeleton 1: 12 + 2 = 14
Cutlass Skeleton 2: 16 + 2 = 18
Skeleton Mage: 14 + 1 = 15
Aisha: 6 + 4 = 10

You rush into the room and find the three skeletons you heard outside the door. As expected, one of them turned out to be a mage in thick robes. The staff and robes of the skeleton mage had the same insignia as the other ones. The Cutlass wielding skeletons seemed to be quite far away, but the mage seemed ready to fight.

Aisha rushes into the room expecting to be able to take the element of surprise, but the skeletons didn't seem at all phased by her sudden appearance. One comes at her from the front which she narrowly dodges giving the other skeleton the opening he needed to slip behind her. A bit of fear crossed her brow as the mage began his spell. He was clearly out to take advantage of her poor positioning, but she sighed with relief when the spell seemed to fizzle.

She needed to act quickly to save herself. She tried to force her way out of the pincer positioning she found herself in. If she could slip loose she'd charge the mage to make a quick end to him. Otherwise, she'd have no choice but to take a swing at the skeleton right in front of her.

Skeleton Mage uses Ice Spear (10AP)
Spellcasting Roll: 15 + 3 = 18, Hit: Damage: 6 - 2 (WIS) = 4

You push through the pincer attack to reach the skeleton mage. However, your drawing strike is just short. It whizzes just a hair's with away from the undead's ribcage. The two skeletons you left behind follow and nick you in the back. While annoying, the real pain comes from the spear of ice the skeleton mage summons from it's bony finger. It shots the ice instrument at you as it cuts into your side.

Once the spear of ice evaporates, you find yourself surrounded by skeletons as you bleed from your freshest wound. As your breathing becomes heavier, you feel the tattoo on your right nipple pulse.

Aisha charged at the mage giving a hearty roar as she closed in but found that even with her leading strike she couldn't quite catch the mage. Having nothing to show for her effort to take out the mage she found herself taking two shallow strikes from the skeletons looking over her shoulder she growled before she felt the cold ice hit her from the front.

Her breathing grew heavy as she realized she was reaching her limit. She had bitten off more than she could chew with this trio. She needed to get unpinned if she wanted to have any chance against them. Popping the Potion of Healing she gulped down its contents quickly to feeling the relief pass through her aching body. She'd hoped to save it for longer, but it would do little good for her if she were defeated now. Still, it would do little good if she was kept in this pincer formation. Not wanting to pull away from the mage she tried to step up to his side taking an evasive stance. Right now she needed to be very careful, and a parry would only prevent one attack from connecting.

You step to the side and put all three skeleton fighters in front of you. Drinking the potion you feel a sudden wave of relief. On the tips of your feet, you nimbly dodge the two cutlass wielding skeleton warriors. You even manage to sneak in a hit one of the warriors. As you land you see shadowy hands once again rise up from the ground. You avoid them with ease as the mage pulls his rod back. You can only imagine what would happen if they caught you.

Aisha smirked as she disentangled herself from between the three skeletons. It seemed her extra care was unnecessary this time as all three attacks were easily dodges while one even managed to leave an opening for her to strike. Now things were looking a bit better, but she still wasn't out of danger yet. One of the cutlass skeletons was currently injured giving her the opportunity to try and finish the job, but the mage still worried her as those hands tried to grab her. She couldn't allow herself to be caught in their grasp and left wide open.

Hoping to gain some advantage she leaned onto the balls of her feet before dancing her way behind the enemy. Either way, she'd take a swing at the mage before it managed to get lucky with those spells.

You nimbly wrap around the Skeleton Mage and smash your cutlass into the monster's spine. With a deafening crack, the skeleton mage crumbles into a pile of dust. The creature's companions don't seem too pleased. The second skeleton warrior turns on a dime and slams it's weapon into your shoulder. It feels as though the air's been knocked out of you. As you stumble, the second skeleton just misses you.

Aisha easily danced around the three Skeletons and smashed the mage into dust. The remaining skeletons made a fierce turn around on her though. One of them landing a serious blow, and she only barely managed to avoid the other ones attack afterward. She felt winded as the remains of her power seemed to dwindle. Darn it, she had thought she was going to turn this around, and now one lucky shot has her at the breaking point.

She was going to let herself be taken out just yet. Pulling out the Energy grass she clenched it between her teeth chewing it up. She disliked having to use both it and the healing potion at the same time, but it would do her no good if she didn't survive a rush of energy took her and she felt like she could run for hours, but it wouldn't last long. She lashed out at the skeleton that had landed such a blow on her hoping to get revenge if accomplishing nothing else. Then she'd weave side to side trying to keep ahead of any attempted strike while preparing her sword to parry anything that might make it through.

You exact your revenge against the monster that brought you to the brink. Deciding to play on the defense pays off. Neither skeleton can land a finishing blow. Instead, you punish one of of the more sloppy Skeleton Warriors and cause it to crumble like all the rest. Now it was just you and the final skeleton standing. With the juices from the divine grass flowing through you, you can sense that the next move will conclude the battle.

Aisha was glad to see the skeleton drop, but even with how close she was to victory, defeat was only a hair's breadth away. She needed to keep her focus on avoiding such a fate while finishing this before the Energy Grass wore off. Making a quick strike she tried to make an opening for another more solid hit before stepping back to be ready for any counter this last skeleton might try.

You strike first and open up the skeleton's guard. With a final blow, you smash your sabre into the skeleton skull. Once crushed, the rest of the creature falls to the ground. Victorious, you manage to catch your breath and get a good glance at the room. It looked like a small barracks with a few beds. Unlike the room before, there were still some unopened chests. But what stood out the most was the small cabinet hanging on the wall.

Aisha was relieved to see her strike take the skeleton down before it could retaliate. Picking up the two Healing Potions from the remains she started to scan the room. The cabinet and the chests were what immediately drew her attention, but Aisha decided to exercise some restraint. That fight had taken a lot out of her, and she needed to make sure she was in fighting condition in case someone had left any booby traps for unsuspecting adventurers.

Once she felt she was back in tip top shape she'd go for the chests first. Something about how obvious the cabinet was felt a little suspicious to her at the moment. Then when she was satisfied she had found everything of value in the room she'd approach the cabinet making sure to be cautious while opening the container.

You find yourself resting in one of the beds found in the room. You find yourself drowsing of. When you wake up, you're refreshed (HP restored to full).

When you get up, you begin to search the room. Checking the chest, you find an assortment of diaries. They all looked worn and ready to fall apart. However, they were still readable. One particular journal belongs to a 'Sir Macliff'. Under all the loose paperwork is a golden Armlet. It was a little dusty but still beautiful. There seemed to be a socket on top where a jewel was meant to be (Golden Armlet, +1 Magic Defense).

As you open the cabinet, you find multiple copies of a single skeleton key. This might just be what you need to reach the next floor

Aisha stretched as she woke up from her rest yawning the last bit of sleep away. Searching through the chest, she found little that interested her. She didn't really think she had much use for some old diaries. If they were down here they wouldn't be able to tell her much about what to expect up there. She did find a small Armlet in one diary from some Sir Macliff. Snapping it on her arm she found that it appeared to be missing a jewel of some sort, so she decided to keep his journal. Perhaps the journal had some information about the armlet she'd find useful. Inside the cabinet, she found many copies of the same skeleton key. Most likely to allow passage up.

Grabbing one, Aisha considered heading up to the next floor. Was it better to advance up to her goal, or to finish exploring down here for any other goods that would help her further up? She decided to head back into the first hall and check the door opposite the one into this room. Many people had probably failed to climb this tower; it would likely pay to be cautious.
