You manage to wrap the rope around his hind legs, and with a quick pull, it tightens into his joints.

Strength Roll 6+0=6
Unfortunately you don't have the strength to force his legs together. Still though, you basically rooted his rear legs in place, so he is far less effective at fighting back. Drake takes this opportunity to try and pull the beast over, jumping off and yanking on the muzzle as hard as he can to the back and side.

The wolf's lurches back on his hind legs as his head is pulled up, and then its balance gives out and collapses onto its side.

I quickly move in, planning to hog tie its front legs together for now, letting it thrash against the rope when it wakes up to make it a bit more pliable. Having gotten it situated, I fall back on my butt, resting a bit as I try to deal with the exhaustion. "Well... that was a fun romp to start with." I give Drake a grin. "So, do we drag it back, or can you work some magic and mind control the damned thing?" I ask, not looking forward to dragging the beast back.

I assumed that meant the combat was over. Also, I'm assuming it's built where it can go between bipedal and quadrapedal?

It isn't knocked out by the fall, but with it already on the ground, Drake managed to keep it down long enough for you to finish binding his legs. After which Drake follows your example, letting out a few pants of fatigue, before responding, "I suppose it was... But damn, these things are strong... Never actually wrestled with one before... though I have seen them around." At your question, he answers, "Well... it's not mind control, but I can influence his biology to make him more passive, either short term or long term, with my blood magic. Alternatively, it is a pack animal so I can try to dominate it and make it accept me as 'pack leader.' I suppose you can try as well... but I'm not sure you can pull that off."

First is correct, second isn't. A Direwolf is basically just a very large wolf(Size of a horse, but with shorter legs so lower to the ground), and the reason it went on it's hind legs is because his head was pulled back and up. Partially due to being pull that way, and partially due to try to not to be choked by the rope, he ended up on his hind legs, but is poorly balance there(especially since they are bound together), and thus was able to be knocked over by Drake.

Okay, just wanted to make sure. I assume they make saddles and such for them? Also, more beast than person I assume?

I'm slightly miffed at the insinuation that I would not be able to dominate the beast, but I'm a bit too tired to try and argue about that. "For now, a bit of passivity would be good. Do you need some blood or is it simple enough? Also, I never asked, but how often could you take blood from something like this for spells, and what kind of strength could you get from it? Hm, if we're keeping him, we'll need to look for more ways to get a hold of meat. I might need to buy or catch some chickens and build a pen or something so we can farm them instead of trying to catch a few rabbits every day. We can still hunt, but it's nice to have a back up plan." I let my mind wander as we recover. This is getting more and more complex.

It's entirely beast. Not every monster is even slightly humanoid. Also, yes saddles are made for them, as well as barding.

"I can use his real quick, but it is simple enough where he's not going to notice a difference. As for taking blood from something... I don't really have a limit. All it requires is me to be focused, and of course the blood. From the strength of magic I can smell off of him, I would say I got about the same as that bandit we consumed, but of course this one has high magic, and using that much would kill him," Drake explains but doesn't respond about the farming of chickens, since he knows nothing about them. Drake does however move over to the wolf, and sink his claws into his side, chanting slowly for about a minute. The change is pretty noticeable as you can literally see the tension in its muscles disappearing as it no longer tries to pull against it's bindings.

Well, that's a very impressive trick. I'll have to see about using it in the future. "Do you think we could untie his legs and have him walk back? Maybe hobble him so he can't run?" I ask Drake. I'm fairly good with ropes and knots, so I should be able to do this fairly quickly. It'll be nice to have something akin to a workhorse on the ranch so I don't have to pull everything. And once Pepper gets back in good shape, I'll really be cooking. Still, I'll definitely need to work on upgrading the farm as soon as possible.

"Oh, and I don't know if you have any magic left from that, but if you could pull that trick on any small wild animals we run across and point them out, we can bring a few new additions home so we don't have to hunt as much. Don't cripple the dire wolf though."

Was trying to ask if she can get a low/medium spell every week or so if she lets Drake draw from the wolf. Maybe keep it at less than once a month?

"We still have the muzzle on him, so I think we can lead him... Besides he shouldn't try to run in his current state. I do wish to point out that this will only last for a few hours before it wears off, so we need a more permanent solution," Drake informs you, gesturing to the rope in his hand.

"We'd have to capture it first, but it should work against most animals, and I understood. I will be able to draw some power from the wolf enough for a few cantrips," Drake informs you.

Ah, well yes, though the wolf's resting health will be lower if you do that. Would be low level spell though, since the blood lost from a medium spell would be fatal despite not using all the blood.

Might want to drain the wolf for a week or two to boost the garden then.

I nod to Drake, processing it. "We'll head back to the farm then, just to get big boy here locked up where he can't break free." I give him a few pats to the shoulder as I untie him, but I let Drake hold onto him. "We can keep our eyes open for a few more small creatures that might be tasty, but I don't want to lose this guy and have to kill him."

On the way back you do notice some antelope, but you don't have a bow on you, so unless you can come up with another way, you don't think you'll be able to get any without risking letting the direwolf escaping.

I whisper to Drake, "Any lightning left in you? Could you, I don't know, boost your strength in your arm and throw a rock at them super hard?" I ask him, getting whatever rope I still have left out. I look around, seeing if there's a pair of rocks that are the proper size to make a bola from.

"I do have some lightning, but I rather save it for emergency use. As for boosting my throwing strength, that is feasible, but would be decently draining, though I could always use the wolf for that," Drake explains.
Search Roll 8
As you look around you quickly realize that a dedicated search would make a lot of noise due to the tall grass and probably spook the antelopes, so you have to do a simple visual search, which leaves you wanting, only finding stones only suitable for a sling.

I'm getting nervous at this point. "Is the wolf calm enough that you could leave him with me while you stalked them? If not, I can sneak closer and try to lasso one of them myself. A live pair would be nice, but a dead one will feed a lot of us for at least a week or so." I begin to mutter to myself. I begin measuring out sections of rope, hoping to get some practice on them if I need to.

"It would be risky for me to leave it... I suspect it is quite hungry and should I bring back a prey animal it's instincts might kick in, causing it to be less passive," Drake warns, "But your call, if you want to risk it." As he talks you prepare your lengths of rope.

"Okay, I'm going to give it a shot then." I tell him, trying to sneak closer with my lasso ready.

As you approach they're heads shoot up and look at you, obviously having heard you, in a panic you throw your lasso after them before they can bolt out of range. As luck would have it your rope catches one of their horns, and as you pull the rope taunt, the rebound throws the beast on the floor. You close quickly, and while it has gotten up by the time you got there, it is a simple matter to capture the animal since it can no longer escape.

"Ha ha!" I shout, giddy that I've managed to do so well with my new abilities. A couple of hobbling knots to keep it from escaping for now, and I wave Drake over to pacify the future dinner so nobody has to carry it. Having done that, I loosen up the rope on its legs so it can match speed with us as we walk back. I puff out my chest a bit, pride swelling as I look at the two creatures I helped capture here with my rope skills. I hope Tallie knows how to cook one of these, because I sure don't and I'd hate to ruin it.

You know what I mean by hobbling rope right? Where the legs are tied together with just enough slack that the creature can walk, but not run or gallop without yanking its own legs out from under it.

Also, do dire wolves follow monster breeding mechanics or are they simple a random creature in the world like a rabbit or whatever?

A great haul, especially considering how poor the first half of the hunt was. As you return home you realize two wagons are parked just outside your house, and after a little bit you realize it's Viala along with several guards and even a few guild enforcers. You do recall that she did say she'd return to pick up the bandits, though Drake is eying them wearily as he moves into the distance, clearly worried that they might be after him due to him being a crimson dragon.

Yeah, I understand. It's like shackles where you can shuffle around but can't run. Also, yeah Direwolves are considered monsters and use monster breeding mechanics.

"Stay here, I'm going to go look and see what they want." I tell Drake, moving closer to them as I leave him behind, hoping to find out exactly what we can expect to happen. I approach Viala, waving her down. "We had one of them die of wounds, but the rest seem to be doing okay. I hope everything else is good to go? Is there anything else that might be going on?" I probe, making sure I don't look over my shoulder where I came from. I hope she didn't do anything like mention what kind of dragon Drake happens to be, or that she's sold us out. She wouldn't do that would she?

Drake nods, and hangs in the back as you move ahead. Viala waves at you, "Well, in all honest we only need one, well maybe two. We just need them alive for them to tell us where their base is. Oh, that reminds me, you get a bounty for capturing them. That's 200 hundred gold for the mage, and an additional 10 gold per living head... so that's 300 hundred gold?"

I blink in surprise. "That's a lot more cash than I was expecting, but I'll happily take it and invest it. Also, I don't know if their friends are going to come looking for vengeance, is there anything I can do to get a little bit of extra security around here for now? And I wanted to let you know, I've captured a Direwolf, so you can expect routine extractions from him.

Is there anything that needs to be discussed? Such as what we were doing when we interrupted?" I don't want to mention Drake specifically, but I want to make it clear that I'm asking about him. Of course, if she decides to take it as a question of if she wants to continue our previous encounter, I'm up for that as well.

If nothing else needs doing, I go get Drake, having him put up the new Direwolf in a pen. I might need to add onto the place to keep him safely without having to leave him hobbled like this. Of course, with this cash floating around, I should be doing well in no time.
