"I... understand," Tallie nods, as you go off to think of the defense of the ranch, leaving her to finish up breakfast.

Drake isn't hard to find, simply being out back, digging a hole for the dead bandit. As you ask you questions he responses, "I figure one or two should be able to do that... but I will point out that it will be harder to disguise what we are doing the higher the body count... Also I will point out that they are likely fairly far away, so I'd wager they only found out that their raid failed since the party hasn't come back yet. I'm dubious that they'll be so brazen to send out another group to attack before they figure out exactly what happened to the first... especially since they lost their mage, so I don't think another attack will be immanent... Scouts perhaps, but not an attack."

"That makes sense to me. We should counter their scouts I guess. If the pair of us go out, I will focus on traps and other creatures, you focus on making sure no scouts sneak up on me?" I question him, which seems like the best option. Now that I've got a use for some orcs, I'll keep a look out for them as well as the small animals we've been eating.

"Understood, but it will take some time for me to finish up here... Go ahead and eat breakfast, I'm sure you must be starving," Drake informs you, returning to burying the body.

I nod to him, heading back in and feasting on the wonderful food that Tallie made for us.

When you get back, Tallie has already stocked the table with a plethora of food... though it does occur to you that you might very well run out before the end of the week at this rate. Either way, it still tastes wonderful and fills both your and Tallie's absurd appetites.

Recalling that we're effectively putting away enough for a months pregnancy, I'm not surprised. I might need to get that vegetable patch blessed after all.

Drake returns from his work, dirt covering his hands, as he retrieves one of the fresh bunnies to eat for breakfast. Once he is finished he looks at you and asks, "So what is the plan for today?"

"First, we need to check on Pepper and Fion. If they're up for it, we'll leave them here just in case, as an attack is unlikely. Then the two of us shall go hunting, for food and possibly spell ingredients or signs of scouts from the bandits. Depending on what we find, we'll be bringing it back or simply consuming it in the field." I tell him, swallowing the last bit of food.

Leaving Fion and Pepper behind turns out to be just fine with them as neither of them are feeling well(though for different reasons) and soon the two of you are packed up with supplies including a pack lunch that weights as much as the rest of the supplies put together the two of you start to head out. Drake does turn to you and ask, "So are we going to stay together or split up? And if we are splitting up, what should I prioritize hunting?"

"Hm, I think we shall stick together at first, give the area a once over, and then set some traps separately. Once the traps are set, we shall meet again to try some more advanced hunting techniques to try and track something person sized." I tell him. We should be able to get that done by lunch I think, and spend the rest of the day hunting larger creatures, with a few morsels to feast on tomorrow or tonight.

Unfortunately it seems that nothing of interest is close to be close by. Perhaps the orcs remember the orcs that were killed near this ranch once it was reclaimed? Orcs are pretty stupid but they do understand the concept of dangerous areas, so the survivors of that might very well be avoiding the place... Of course this won't transfer to the next generation of orcs so if that is the reason it'll only be until probably this summer for when you start seeing orcs around again. Irregardless, you reconvene with Drake for lunch having not a thing to show for your efforts. He does ask, "I haven't found anything near by either... perhaps we should widen the search radius?"

I munch quietly as I weigh the risks before deciding that the benefits outweigh them. We haven't seen any sight of scouts or anything similar, so it's likely that they're not in the area yet. Going a little wider shouldn't hurt anything. "Would we want to bring back any survivors, or simply kill them for the blood magic in the field to save time?" I ask him. He mentioned that there would be some loss, but if it's not a lot, then we can make this easy.

"My vote is to consume them in the field... Your friend is coming by to collect the bandits, and we might have trouble hiding them or their bodies since we don't know when she will arrive. We will loss some power by doing so, but it is preferable to possibly coming in conflict with the guild," Drake explains his position.

I nod, understanding him. "Seems reasonable, I just wanted to verify." I tell him, happy to have cleared that up. I'm feeling energetic again, after my hefty meal, and I let him lead the way to wherever his nose decides is a good direction to go.

He leads you out into the long grass, his eyes darting back and forth across the horizon
Hunting roll 17+3=20 Excellent hunt!
He suddenly ducks down, signaling for you to do the same. As you peek over the grassline again you see the quarry. A direwolf, rare this far from the forest, but worth a good chunk of change if captured... and even more if trained. Of course another use for him is revealed as Drake whispers, "I can smell he is rich in mana. Seems to be an aberrant in that regard... Still will do wonders for our purposes. How do you want to approach this?"

The money that I could bring in for that thing... "I want to try and catch it first, if we can. If we can't, then kill it and we'll harvest what we can." I tell him, trying to gauge which direction the wind is from so we can hopefully sneak up on it. I ready my capturing tools, hoping to catch the beast off guard.

He nods and follows your directions. As you get closer you see it's a bit slimmer then average, possibly due to hunger, but otherwise looks like an excellent specimen with a very fine coat. You ready your strengthened rope, tying it in a way to slip over its neck and mouth, preventing it from biting and allow you to bring it down easier... well if you get it on.

It is completely oblivious to your approach and with a good throw your rope wraps its head, and with a quick tug, it secures itself onto its face.

Unfortunately you were so relieved to get the harness on properly, you forgot to brace for its inevitable thrashing. In a moment you find yourself on the ground, your hands stinging with rope burn.
Reflex Roll 17+?
As you look up, you find that it's far from over, as Drake, apparently managed to grab the rope in time and managed to pull himself on top of the bucking wolf. The hunt is still on!

I huff as I'm yanked off my feet, struggling to get back up. A few quick breaths and I throw myself back into the fray. I'm hoping I can wrestle this thing to the ground with Drakes help, or more likely help Drake take care of it. A beast like this would be quite useful back at the farm, likely as a defense or as a possible work beast.

Unfortunately, you throwing yourself at the wolf doesn't really do much, and certainly not war renting the wolf's attention over Drake. As you desperately hold on for dear life, the wolf bucks and shakes, trying to dislodge Drake who is tugging at the rope. Drake turns to address you real quick, "You got more rope right? Bind it's legs!" You do have a segment left over, but it's not really long enough to whip around all of the wolf's legs while its moving about, but at the same time if you fail to bind its legs, then your only choice is to hold on until it tires itself out as it is clearly strong enough where even both of your weights combined won't be able to pin it.

I try to lasso the wolves hind legs, hoping tying them together will take some of the fight out of him. He's big enough I can't really throw my weight around effectively.
