Your intense focus lets you ignore some of the more mortal limits of your speed, and you quickly catch up to it, gouging it deeply, and causing it to leak blood... and floaty stuff. Still, you had to almost flip the little bastard over, maybe a metal tip would help, but your only supply is attached to you. Maybe you can do a crafting thing, that's popular in video games, right?

This thing is certainly tough. I use my arm sword to finish it off before picking it up and taking it back to camp. Whatever this thing is, the hardness should be useful. It should have claws or fangs or something, so maybe I can replace the tip of the spear with something better. If nothing else I think layering this armored shell over my shield, or maybe fashioning some armor, would provide me with some protection.

You vaguely recall something about armadillos, which this strange thing reminds you of, but hopefully that's not a thing here, right? It has a tough leathery hide, with thick slabs of chunks of bones embedded in it, which your cat helpfully informs you are called 'osteoderms', but the shape may not be right. You do find plenty of claws and teeth, but they're not much bigger than your fingers. It's a wild cat, with a bit of armor, after all. Still, you do have dinner, and stripping it out lets you clean the former animals armor while its meat gets cooked. You have the option of stitching the armored shell over your shield, hide shields were a thing, right?, or to try and make some kind of formed armor to protect your soft human innards, as the cat points out.

While reinforcing my shield does seem to make a lot of sense, I would like some passive armor I I can rely on... still, how much would this cover? If I can only protect one tenth of my torso, then it's not really worth the effort until I have more.

The cat is large enough that unfolding the armored skin would cover most of your torso, at least on one side. And a bit of your sides. But... not enough to cover your front and back. Which is likely an important question, do you trust your awareness enough to guard your back, or your difficultly intercepting attacks you can still see since you're going to try and face your opponents.

I consider things, and decide that simply wearing the shield on my back when I'm not in combat would provide the protection I need, so rather then investing my only armor currently on a situational protection, I think it would be wise to have it useful for the guaranteed danger I'll be putting myself into. If I armor around my metal arm, and use my left arm for the shield I should have great protection from most attacks... especially since I'm probably going to rely on my arm's sword mode as the weapons I have don't seem to be of a decent quality.

It doesn't take you long to find something similar to vines that can be used as threads, and the carcass, once properly cleaned out, is fairly easy to sow onto your clothing. Both seem a bit more solid after you've worked on them as well, rather than simply being in contact, something to consider later? Looking up, you find that the day is almost half over what with the violence and then having to spend some time cleaning it out so you don't wind up wearing monster goop on your shoulder. What do you want to do with the rest of the day?

Well, I secured food, and scouted some what... Probably should check on the water catcher I set up and then explore the other direction away from camp and call it a day.

Well, it hasn't rained, but the water catcher seems to have done exactly that, filled up enough for a good drink. You're once again forced to wonder if physics is only working because that's what you expect to happen...

Setting out once more, there's much less of interest in this area, although you have no idea if that will hold true tomorrow as causality seems a little pliable around these parts. There's thin smatterings of fruit bushes, as before, as well as trees, but little else around you.

Well, I suppose that's enough for today. I drink what I can of the water before setting the catch back up and heading back to camp. If there is some time left, I go about trying to conceal my camp further before bed.

You don't have much else you can do to conceal, and it's hard to tell if it will even stay there while you sleep. Still, you quickly conk out after the exhausting day, and your cat seems to be up and about, keeping watch. Assuming it wouldn't watch you die and then amuse itself with your hair or something.

I mean, I don't find it unsettling. Weird sure, but that's about it. As for her being ravaged, I'm fine with it taking a bit as long as it isn't just her blindly bumbling around in the woods, but actually finds something interesting to do or see.

I pause to consider if making walls around the camp would be practical at all, since as long as I have interacted with it, it seems to be content to observe the principle of object permanence. Regardless, sleep comes for me soon enough, and in the morning after stretching and giving myself a few minutes to full wake up, I consider how much food I have left, and whether or not I need to go hunting again.

You could make walls, although you'd probably be stuck with wood ones. The land seems to primarily be a mix of clay and soil, rather than rocks which would make good walls, maybe some of those spikey things?

The night does not interrupt your sleep, seeming to be content for now. You do have a few more meals, both the more normal berries and meat, as well as a bit of the strange magic rich oranges. Considering how responsive the world is to your own thought processes, maybe focusing on a single thing that you want to find will make it more likely?

Dungeon might be interesting. Puts her at some risk while giving her some actually useful stuff she's not going to get by chopping down trees.

My main concern is more to prevent a monster from wandering through my camp then to repeal a full on assault. I don't think even a rock wall would do much more then buy time against that tentacled freak that took my boat. In that case a wooden wall with those spikey things covering the outside should make most decide it's not worth their time. So that might be something to do. I can use the clay to seal up any gaps as well. Still, that will take a while, but since I'm going to be building inside it I need to make sure I have enough space to expand. I walk around looking to see if there are good places to put it, especially at natural chokepoints to minimize the work I need, while maximizing the area I will have for my home base.

Looks like I don't have to worry about food today, but I still want to hunt more of those armadillo cat things, if for no other reason to get more armor. I'd like a full set before really heading out, and the extra food reserves would be nice as well.

It's been some time, maybe you could get started on a palisade when you find a good place. (search:12) You look around, finding little in the way of natural choke points. But... you do find a small... water drop point thing near the top of a hill. It doesn't produce a lot, but does produce some. Maybe that would be good enough?

(Luck:9) Searching for the small animals doesn't seem to offer much luck, and you're not entirely sure why. Unfortunately, there's no level up system that you can find, which would have been nice to know what kind of 'tracking' skill you might have. This Isekai world is bullshit. You can keep searching for more living armor materials, or you could work on your palisade, which at least only requires trees which are rather abundant.

I sigh... considering my options. The palisade would take a while, and probably will attract attention while I'm working on it, so I'd like to have full armor before I do that... Best to continue looking around. Even if I don't find more of those things, maybe I can find something else I can use. I'm feeling way to exposed with those tentacled face freaks out there.

Mentally focusing a bit more on the fact that you're looking for something that would make good armor, you feel reality shift slightly, almost like it's trying to do what you want. Peering through the underbush, you keep an eye out before you hear your cat hiss. Looking around in a panic, you're just in time to see a large black and scaled paw swat your metallic arm, hard enough to send you bouncing on your ass. Looking up once you catch your breath, you see a damned panther covered in scales and tentacles. Well... you suppose it would make good pants, assuming you can actually fight this thing, as it's much bigger than the armadillo thing.

Fuck! Shit! I dive out of the way to place distance. Well, this fucker looks a lot more dangerous... I ready my shield and deploy my arm blade as I get ready for a fight with this damn thing. I brace in case it charges at my, but if it doesn't I use the chance to throw a lightning bolt at it.
