I did the first thing that came to mind, I backed down and out of the fight to let Brenhalda deal with it, we were in melee range and she was a strong fighter, if I tried to fight I'd just put myself in the way, so I needed to get out of it. Plus if Brenhalda could do stuff like that in one swing she should have no problem dealing with the second one.

It was a good idea to do so, though things were tougher for Brenhalda than ya might have expected. The second one was faster, and better at keeping out of her range. And several times she got close enough to you that you had to duck and dash to another spot. Brenhalda took quite a few hits from magic as well, and while in the end she dealt with the Thalmor, she was looking worse for the wear afterwards. It'd probably be a good idea to heal her!
