Arcana: Fool

Perks:

Flow State: Kai's always been able to shrug off the worst the world can throw at her. Neither glib or aloof, she takes the world as it is and allows it to slide on buy with a gentle smile on her face. She's able to resist fear, rage, and confuse statuses much easier.

Makin' Cocktails and Changing Lives: Kai is an experienced bartender, knowing exactly what her customers need the moment they step through her doors, whether that's a hard drink or a nice chat, she finds most things can be solved if you lend them an ear. Good for getting intel from people and making friends with a certain subset of lonely people.

Emotional reservoir: Adept at letting the world come and go, Kai is seen as especially stoic, but like with all reservoirs there is a chance they might overtop under the right circumstances. Kai is seen as a reliable person due to her restraint, in combat she is resistant to melee damage unless Pressure points has been activated.

Charming, when you get to know her Certain remarks, banter and other fired off quips might initially come off as dismissive or downright insulting, but the air she spares for conversation is reserved for those she cares about. Initially slow to build up Social Links, but they build up faster after rank 5

Flaws:

Pressure Points Coming from an influential family Kai had always grown up with a certain distance to her peers and even teachers in school. More often than not she was barred from attending club activities due to her parent's overbearing nature, causing her to come home and be apart from her friends. She remembers the night that broke the dam around her heart and the repairs are slow to follow. Her yearning for connections runs throughout all the cracks in her otherwise impenetrable facade. When she witnesses PDA or worse sex it sets Kai off balance, the more she witnesses the worse she gets until she lashes out. Socially adept individuals might be able to pick up on this yearning and purposefully set her off balance.

Treasure Trove: Kai doesn't realize that her conservative fashion sense is hiding a deeply sexual body, in swimsuits, sportswear, or other tight fitting she is bound to turn heads but she doesnt realize it.

Envious Eye: Despite usually being able put up with what the world can throw at her in terms of problems, situations and turmoil, Kai harbors a jealous streak for others have that she lacks, not only relating to emotional/romantic bonds, but materially as well. A snide remark or two is bound to follow if she sees someone getting something she cant have right that instant.

Background: Trapped in a large house and with little interaction aside from SMS or the occasional internet chat room, Kai could feel the chasm in her heart widening. She wanted to be outside, within the company of others. She did her best to bury these regrets deep down, waiting and biding her time until college, but one day she hit her breaking point. On a particular night when her father was away on a business trip, she was wrapping up a late night of homework. She hadnt realized how late it and headed to the kitchen. As she crept past her parent's bedroom she saw the door cracked open and bits of clothing strewn about the hallway. Thats when she caught a glimpse of her mother in bed with a man that was not her father. Her eyes widened and she wanted desperately to shout. But in a split second she had realized she wanted to shout about how unfair it was, that her mother engaged in such acts that she was barred from having. Not the more pressing matter that for one reason or another her mother had tossed her father to the side. No she could only feel that she desperately wanted what her mother was having in that moment as she watched from the doorway. Between her legs she felt hot, hotter than she ever did and that caused something to snap in her mind.

Her life up until that point was one of grace and fortitude. Her peers looked up to her, her teachers respected her. Of course some had comments about her lack of extracurriculars but none dared question why she was called home every day rather than living out her normal school days. Seemingly her only hobby was chatting up strangers on the internet until that faithful night.

The week after that night, when her father returned home she thought she would inform him of what she had seen that night. But as she greeted him at the doorway like she had always done, she noticed some bruising around the side of his neck and down close to his collar. The faintest smear of red lipstick followed from one bruise to the other. Her mouth was agape. She blinked twice to calm herself and let out a long breath before shuffling on that calm smile she had worn for so long. Only this time she had to bear it with needles that enveloped her entire body.

That night she stole off into the night with nothing but a suitcase. She didnt want to return until she could understand this roiling emptiness within her. Of course this didnt go over well with her parents who immediately declared her missing, but she managed to remain hidden, doing odd jobs and discovering a talent for bartending and small talk. Months of this soul searching went on and on until one evening as she finishing up her closing shift at the bar she was working at a man had attacked her in the alleyway nearby. She recognized the man as a regular to the bar, though he was not drunk, the only thing she could see was the clear look of ravishment he had in his eyes as his hands pulled away at her uniform. Buttons spilled out onto the street as her vest was pulled open.

It was only at the last minute before the situation escalated any further when a passerby, noticed what was happened and called out to them. The regular sprinted off and Kai was rescued, but she felt more withdrawn than ever. She had felt a familiar heat in her body, but also a deep terror at what had happened. Regulars at the bar she had worked at noticed how more much despondent Kai had become over the days and months. They tried to make conversation, pull what information they could from her. She of course answered back politely doing her best to at least put on the show of good service even when she was so withdrawn into her own mind.

Until one day, as she was getting out of bed, she noticed the world had a bit more color to it than it had before. She wasnt too sure but she felt a weight lift off of her but something else settle inside of her. A seed, or maybe more accurately kindling was settled down into the deepest pits of her aching heart and a spark had seemingly ignited it. That day was the first time she had masturbated in months. And it was seemingly the release she needed as she felt driven from there to restart her life. She decided to head home after nearly a year away from home.

Her parents were of course furious, but worse yet, her actions seemed to be breaking point. Her mother inhabited their old home and when she rang the doorbell she didnt even seem to register her missing daughter had finally returned home. The door was slammed in her face after a rather long diatribe about how Kai had ruined the family, but these words didnt phase her. With that door close she called her old boss asking for a favor and was thankfully to receive some help in kind. It seems she'll be spending a year or two at a dingy dive bar run by a friend of her former boss.

"I saw you were on the student registry this year. I'm glad you're trying again."

Its not clear if its cruel or sweet that Momoko would send you a message out of the blue like this since everything seemed to fall apart. You suppose its mostly your fault that things ended with her the way they did, and it wasn't like she didn't try to stay in touch with you at the beginning. But you were very successful in your efforts to disappear. Too successful, it seems, as its proved all too difficult to reappear now. Your own mother showed no interest in letting you back in your own home. Your High School seemed willing to let you return, but only on the grounds that you retake a year and attend regular appointments with a counsellor. In turn, this message was all that was left of your admittedly quite stifled love life. The ever diligent Momoko would no longer be in your year group, let alone your class. You were hardly a social butterfly before, but it felt almost like you were only now realising what you truly lost and how alone you now were.

That was a week ago, though it still hangs on your mind. Apart from your old boss telling you the address of where to go to meet his friend that'll put you up while you try and get your life back on track, you hadn't received any other messages since. Let alone any sign from Momoko that she might want to reconnect more than simply saying she was glad you were back in school.

Still, you had more pressing things to focus on right now. Sonoda-san, the man who had enough kindness to give you work with few questions asked when you ran away seemed to have one last thing to give you. Someone he knew near your school that could take care of you and give you a place to work. He made it clear it wasn't charity, that even with calling in an old favour your new boss would expect you to work to earn your keep - much as you did with Sonoda-san before. It was time to meet your new boss.

The address that had been sent to you brought you to a dingy dive bar down the kind of backstreets that your parents would have never let you near in the past. Drunken men in suits sauntered by near the street's entrance in the kind of revelry they knew they could only get up to when they told their wives they were working late. You passed multiple women dressed to draw the eye to their hips, ass and padded tits. Many would find themselves in the company of the suited men before the night's end - while the mens' work day had just finished, theirs was only just beginning.

Fortunately the bar distanced itself just a little from that end of the street, taking you down narrow paths where stray cats seemed to gather on the tops of walls, watching you with silent curiosity. The bar itself was lit faintly by the sign that hung over the door. "Fuzzy Feelings". The words overlapping with a love heart that seemed to be lifting its way out of a cocktail glass.

Its quiet enough when you come in. Its smaller than the one you're used to working at, though with only a few customers here at the moment there still seemed like a decent enough space. A woman stands at the bar, perhaps a couple of decades older than yourself though dressed with a youthful thuggish style. Almost American in the way she carried herself. And looked, if you squinted in the dim light. Perhaps biracial.

She casts her eyes over towards you as you enter, and they seem to grow tired the moment they see you. "Ugh. Lets see your I.D. then. Though I'm warning you, I've got a good eye, and don't take kindly to people trying to use fakes." she says as she saunters over towards you, leaning her elbows against the bar once she reaches the end near the door and tapping its surface impatiently.

As the next couple of seconds tick by and she studies you, recognition flickers across your face. "Wait. Your hair... Your the twerp runaway Soetsu mentioned!"

Soetsu. Sonoda-san's given name. Not even the regulars got to call him that. She must be close. Or not care about coming off as rude. On the topic of names, though, Sonada-san had given you one for your new boss. Sakurazaki Risa. This must be her, and it seemed like she was waiting for you to make your first impression.

"I hope its worth it. Turns out dropping out is pretty easy."

Is all I really manage to say back to Momoko though the rift felt almost impossible to bridge in this moment. I couldn't deny that I felt happy that she did message me even after all this time and all of the ignored messages. But I couldn't help but feel the guilt swirl around me as I double checked my luggage. I didnt have much that needed to be shipped to my new home, but carrying it all was just annoying enough to warrant extra care. It was almost routine at this point to slowly shift through my clothes, most of which consisted of my bartending outfit and the multiple sets i had of it to avoid washing laundry too often. It'll at least serve me going forward, though worst comes to worst it'd also work for a butler café.

Thinking back to how I ultimately ended up in this situation seemed to be most tiring aspect of reclaiming my old life. I had half expected my father to be the one to retain our old home, our relationship was always much stronger than the one i had with my mother but alas. She wouldnt even tell me where he ended up and his old number was deactivated or possibly he blocked my number. Whatever the case I couldnt help but think about how their divorce must have gone for my mother to be well off enough to keep our old house, she must have received a large settlement. The air bites me as i linger on the thought, maybe the school or his old work place will have some more information on him, for now i finally managed to pack the last of my suits. The last accouchement being a pair of white gloves, the delicate silk as pristine as the day i received them. My last birthday present. I slip them on as i head out into the cold night, pulling a thin scarf around my neck to keep the cold off of me.

The vague stench of ammonia, dim overhead lighting, and Izakaya opened much too late at night were all quite familiar to me. And even before I start to live out of one of these bars, the setting was already a second home for me. I let the drunk men slip by me, they occasionally had their comments for me but I responded politely and let them go on their way. Even if they just ended up in the arms of some other women waiting down the street. There was no shortage of men who tried their hand at "sweeping me off my feet" however, though most backed off the moment they heard how old I was. I wonder if that excuse will work anymore. Well, only time will tell. Some of the looks they gave me certainly didnt hurt Eventually I make it to the address given to my by Sonoda-san. The gentle neon lit sign shining down on me now as i stood in front of the metal door.

"Fuzzy Feelings" I let the words roll around in my mouth, slowly letting my lips curl into a smile. It was a cute name.

Stepping through the door I already felt quite at home, taking in a long breath of the slightly too stuff air that came with dive bars built with inadequate ventilation. The woman behind the counter was certainly a looker. I hadnt expected Sonoda-san to be friends with a woman like her, it was more likely they had something "more" going on. But the thought is a bit of a bitter thorn in my mind, a brief flash of displeasure swirling about on my face before i quickly stuff it away. I look over the bar and spot the woman had noticed me.

I almost want to comment about not being there to drink, but she at least seems to know the details well enough, "Soetsu?" I blurt out, piecing it together a smidge too slowly. "B-but yes thats me.. its dyed by the way. Had it like this for almost 6 months now." I run my gloved hand through my hair, remembering in the mirror that some of my roots were beginning to show again. But i havent had a chance to touch it up in a while. I did really like how it looked though, even if it made me stick out.

"Are you Sakurazaki-san then? He told me to expect an old friend, but im not sure how you could be friends with that old fart." I laughed to myself as i look around the bar. "This is a nice venue, very cozy. The drink selection was nice as well, just about everything and anything you'd want from a good bar." I pay my respects as i bow my head. "I'll be in your care."
