[Unity] Dusty's Mansion (Dusty's Castle remake)

With GoRepeat's blessing, I'm recreating Dusty's Castle (https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/585032) using Myst-style pre-rendered scenes and a Unity point-and-click engine that I'm testing for a friend.

First, I'm designing a couple of rooms and doing test renders. Once I've got the hallway and gallery in place, I'll probably do a short playable demo up to the first erotic scene.

I would love feedback to help understand what I'm doing right and wrong. I've got my own stories I want to tell and a detailed outline for a game called Sleeping with the Succubus. But I'm not ready to dive into that project yet. The guy who wrote the game engine wants to stay private, but I will pass on any feedback to him as well.

First task on Dusty's Mansion was to create a basic hallyway, the central area of the game.

My first attempt had some nice touches, I thought, but was a bit too spread out and the lighting was awful.

I fiddled with the proportions of the room until they fitted better into a widescreen layout, added some candle mood lighting, and I think I'm happy with this for now. One change to the original I've made already - the statues are not an angel and demon, but of Dusty herself. This was done partly for simplicity, but I'm happy with the choice artistically as well. I think the angel/demon will be attractive male figures and, if I get that far with my remake, am considering a final sex scene as a reward for finishing the game

I need to render some close ups of the statues so that you can look at them in game. Other than that, I need to say "job done" for now and move on to designing the gallery. Hopefully the lessons I've already learned about proportioning rooms will make it a bit easier.

And here's my recreation. I've got a fire extinguisher in there since I think I'll use that to put out the fire in the library rather than a pot of water from the kitchen. Also, there's no vase to hold the slime monster. I may add one in when I get to that stage but think I might change the details of that puzzle, too.

To take the virtue route, you have to destroy the painting. I quite liked the purple so think this will be my destroyed version to give the idea of calmness that the original game had in the painting of the eggplant/aubergine.

OK, this is the last preview image before I start programming. Might be a while before I do any more updates.

I've got a workflow for the erotic scenes that I hope will work without taking forever to render seems to be reasonable. I created a massive panoramic HDR of the gallery using Blender (that took about 4 hours to render). Using that as an environment in Daz, all I need is to add Dusty and the bench she's sitting on as objects, and the HDR acts as both perfect lighting and a background for almost any camera angle I need and also renders super quick. I didn't think animations were going to be possible, but I think I'll give it a go.

So, once I've programmed the gameplay and re-created the painting scene based on GoRepeat's writing, I hope I'll have something playable to share!

After a very long delay and a complete change in direction for the project, I've finally released Part 1 of a point and click remake of Dusty's Castle

It's got a few rooms and the first sex scene in the gallery. Assuming you're familiar with the original, I hope you'll appreciate that it's the same but different :)

I had wanted to do my own 3D renders for the remake, but a change in work means I can't do big NSFW renders anymore. So, I went with GoRepeat's suggestion to dive into the original SWF and extracted his artwork from there. But, again, I'm unable to put in the amount of work it needs.

I'm using free Unity assets for the point-and-clickin engine and interaction and can keep on working on that side. But converting the original animations to Unity animations isn't really my thing, and I'm really limited in how much time I can spend doing adult animations and graphics.

So, if anyone out there wants to help see this project through to completion, let me know.

I'm happy to use brand new graphics if you're an artist interested in re-doing this in your own style. Or if you're a Unity whiz and can convert the originals into Unity 2D animations and package it all up for me, I can drop them into my project. Otherwise, I think this "Part 1" is as far as the remake is going to get working on my own. Sorry.

It's a shame, your project looks good. As a fan of Gorepete's games, I can only be happy to see someone do a remake :3

Unity WebGL can be a bit flaky sometimes, especially if you're using a Mac. Try a different browser? It probably won't work on a phone at all if that what you're trying to do.

This project is not dead, but life/work changes mean I can't do NSFW renders any more and also slowed down my new plans.

A fan of the original back in the day, didnt know there was a remake in the works!
