→ Ask Ano about ‘civilized’ demons and Ellie about Dragons
> Before leaving, Mana decides it would be beneficial to ask the two xenological experts about issues concerning the civility of two of the Particular races.
“So Ano, how can you tell if a demon is civil?”
“Oh thats simple! If it attempts to make a deal, it’s perfectly capable of being a conversation partner; still would not recommend it, no Ma’am, but certainly possible! Most other demons are capable of conversations, but generally are way more concerned with accomplishing whatever chaos they have their mind set to! Imps, draughits and hellhounds are really the unreasonable ones of demon kind. Draughits and hellhounds don’t speak and Imps are too stupid to hold a conversation with sentences that span more than 3 words!” Ano laughs.
Mana turns to the Lapinette woman. “So what about Dragons?”
Ellie nods. “Well unlike demons, all dragons are civil. However, they are very very territorial and have bad hearing. All dragons are capable of speech in most languages, so as long as you can get them to hear you, they’ll understand you; and despite being so territorial, most of them will accept you as a peaceful visitor to their homes if you bring something to add to their hoards… Just make sure the dragon you’re visiting doesn’t hoard dead things. That could get a little tricky.”
→ Take the Drill sergeant position.
>Mana leaves the wizards tower and decides she wants to take a crack at the position of drill sergeant that the old knoll soldier had offered.
She heads to the training yard and perches on a nearby fence to watch. She makes a few observations about the exercises the current instructor is making them do, at this moment the instructor a particularly large equaros.
A familiar voice comes from beside her on the fence. “I hadn’t figured ever done this type of work, guess this is you studying up?”
Mana looks to see the old knoll. She nods. “Seeing what exactly I’m supposed to make them do. You’d be right though. Never made anyone do any kind of drills.”
The knoll chuckles. “You’ll be helping me in the afternoon if you decide to help. I’ll help you pick up the slack if it’s not a thing suited to ya.”
Mana nods. She and the knoll spend the rest of the morning watching, the old soldier pointing out particular things and explaining the reason for some of the drills.

>At noon, the Equaros switches out with Mana and the older Knoll. The rest of the day is dedicated to the training the not quite soldiers.
Mana is put in charge a group of Knollish trainees. She takes several of the tricks she saw the Equaros man do and pushes her trainee to do the exercises.
Her little adventure with the two-headed ogre had clearly been spreading, the trainees periodically making jabs at each other. She quickly silences their chattering much like she had seen from the instructor before and the old knoll on the other side of the training yard.
Unlike her other instructors, Mana finds herself in a less opportune place to implement corporal punishment. She instead finds it more effective for her to go after the ego’s of her underachievers; either focusing on making them realized that they have gravely disappointed a woman that beat something 10 times her size... or belittling their nocturnal performances; both are apparently effective means of getting them to push themselves.
Though she managed to get through the day and get the trainees to properly tire selves out, Mana didn’t feel that she got the same milage out of the men that the other two instructors were.
None- the-less, at the end of the day, the old knoll gives her a pat on the back and a ‘see you tomorrow.’
The next day is a lot of the same, with no major incident until the end of the day where some of the knolls begin fighting over an arbitrary issue. Mana attempts to swoop in to break it up, but in the end has to get help from the old knoll instructor. However, amidst their fighting, these two break several pieces of equipment, which Mana is informed that she will be helping pay for.
The next two days go fairly well, Mana learning that using her wit and ability to cut with her words rather than screaming.
The fifth day is especially hot, and not knowing the limits of knolls in the heat, Mana accidently pushes some of the recruits a little too hard. Mana regretfully forfeits the pay for this day to pay for the medicines from the apothecary.
Day six goes by with no major issues, but she has to ask the older knoll to take a few of the recruits off her hands. The trainees in question seem to have been in a bit of a rut, and their ability to listen had been compromised by their own libido; and was no use for here trying to train them if all they would have done is stare at her ‘assets’ all day.The old dog laughed when he heard her reason, but also docked for half her pay that day.

>Finally the last day goes over fairly well, with little issue.
At the end of the last day, the old knoll hands over a bag of money.
“Sorry if it’s not quite the 700 you were expecting. Damages are damages and they need paid for. Not that it’s any consolation, I had to pay as well. I’ll admit, you did better than I imagined, but you may need to work on making yourself mean if you intend on doing this more.” (
