I've been calling this a dead project for a while now...

It just doesn't know it yet. Not being facetious but it may be time to just let it go...

Yeh.

If they can't get their bugs fixed, or "He who is left now" can't get the bugs fixed, it's eventually going to die whether people really want to let it go or not.
An unplayable game just... can't keep getting support indefinitely.
*shrugs*

Is what it is.
Good people can die and do.
Good video-game projects ain't too much less mortal.

Zatheus Wrote:That's a good death (?)

Hey, beats a lot I can think of.
Would be kinda fitting in Marune's case too.
Ain't necessarily number one on my list of preferred deaths, but I can imagine that there are VERY MANY worse ways to go.

One thing to note about v2.5a, don't leave your staff in an assigned map slot (after beating out a threat in the Slums) if you expect you're going to be shutting down the game or having to restart it (this includes support characters like Alice & Julie), you will lose them when you start the game back up because they don't get removed from the assignment & the assignment area will disappear when you restart it (I literally restarted the game entirely over again when I ran into this).

Other things to mention:
  • Time offset bug still present for female adventurers when having sex (having the condom/pregnancy option on may be playing a part in this, still seems to be random when it starts happening however, will continue happening each time you have sex from that point forward)
  • Gym area appears to be broken/unfinished. Even when I am able to enter the area, it appears to be a dead end with no way to exit out of it, only option being to reload the flash.
I'll fill this in more as I find more bugs & when I have time to do so...

I'm waiting until I hear that some of the foundational bugs were fixed before playing this game again.

Bug reporting is only useful if there's someone with the ability to fix the bugs, after all, and also only if he's reading the reports.

I'm VERY MUCH afraid you might just be playing an unplayable, terminally ill, bug-infested husk kept on life-support for patron money, if you try it right now.

Permanently losing party members?

That doesn't increase my confidence.

With my limited knowledge of programming, and admittedly, looking through the lens of how I would program it, losing party members in this way may be a pretty minor bug to fix. When you have a save file, there are two points where data can be lost or messed up. One is when the save data is made, the other is when the data is loaded. So it may just be that nobody programmed a line of code to save the party members in the location, or that the party members do go to the saved data, but no data is loaded to these locations when the game is started, or it may be that there's a simple typo or mistake like save_data(){saved_data.location_party_members = current_data.locationPartyMembers;} followed by load_data(){current_data.locationPartyMembers = saved_data.locationPartyMembers;} (so there is no "saved_data.locationPartyMembers", so it loads nothing) Which is actually pretty easy to do if you have a different naming convention for the variables in current_data and saved_data, and depending on how they do it, may be something like locationPartyMembers[0] = saved_data[38][1].characterInfo();

So yeah, it can be understandably challenging to approach these things if you're coming back to something you haven't worked on for months and didn't leave yourself any breadcrumbs about how you set it up the first time, or worse, if someone else set it up, possibly in a language you're not too familiar with, you might be looking at something like sokhranennyye_dannyye() or even an abbreviation of that.

To sum up, yes, potentially game breaking, but possibly not a big deal to fix, the challenge is more managerial than technical, and it's a mistake that I, as a quasi-programmer, consider understandable.

Their biggest problem isn't the assets but the code behind it. By far the biggest issue with the game is with the bugs and errors the game has; some of which are game breaking. The amount of spaghetti code that game is full of is probably insane. Even as someone who's looking for experience in game development, I wouldn't touch that game with a 20 foot pole unless I was paid to do it.

As far as I'm aware, they're using Flash Player. If they were smart, they would start migrating everything to Unity as Flash Player is going to go the way of the dodo sooner rather than later. The problem is that all signs point to their code being a mess which will make translating the code from ASC3 to C# (the language Unity uses) exceedingly difficult. If they were serious about the transition, they would have to put a hold on updates and just plug and chug until the Unity build was finished. Given community trust towards them has plummeted, I'm not sure people would trust them to do it in a timely manner.

Also, Simbro's dev team hasn't posted or updated the thread here on LoK's forums in ages (as far as I'm aware). I also hope they sort their stuff out, but this really isn't a good place to try and reach them.

@Freakmike32, this is not the place to contact Simbro's team. We're all fairly sure that Marune does not visit here anymore. Try their patreon page.

If you were going to translate AS3 to Unity, it would be easier to translate AS3 to Javascript, since AS3 basically is JS, but Unity only partially supports it these days. And C# isn't all that different from AS3. The real problem going from Flash to Unity is that they have completely different approaches to things like displaying graphics or storing global data. (Actually, I always used Unity for 3D, 2D Unity might be less different) My problem was that Unity has a very different philosophy to handling OOP that I could never get comfortable with.

I actually fear that SimBro might use AS2, which I think might be non-OOP, but I've never actually used it myself. A lot of developers never felt comfortable with AS3, I'm pretty sure that the original PlayShapes was in AS2, and that Corta's Splatformer (which also uses PlayShapes' graphics) was in AS2.

I've been told that if you have Fire Fox, you can download a plug-in that will decompile .swf's, so theoretically, you could download SimBro, crack it open and look around for yourself. I've never tried to do this, so no promises.

Nurse take the time: Game official time of death 12:40pm date 1/10/2018. The small blips on the life support are now considered attempts to hold onto something that was already gone since 7/15/2017. Pull the plug on all life support and use it for patients that have a chance of making it.

I used to support them. Even sent them a message offering to help them improve their writing quality.

But nothing ever gets fixed. Every update adds like ten new game-breaking bugs. They receive so much money every month, yet put none of it toward improving the quality of their game. I really wonder why they keep putting out new content at all at this rate.

Well, they just came out with an update on the 21st. Well, more like the 22nd as it was a minute before midnight. That's, what? Three months since their last update? Way longer than it should have been.

The post is titled Revive and doesn't address where they had run off to at all. Just that there was a delay and what they were going to be working on next.

They went from being the highest ranked NSFW creator on Patreon this time last year to being eighth. It's a damn shame.

Have they fixed any of the non-functioning features? Like the gym, or the fact that the map crashes when you go into the third quadrant? How about all the animation glitches? Or the broken team system?

I'm incredibly skeptical, because I used to love following them, and when I do follow them now, I come in to see that everything's broken to hell and all they care about is adding new, barely functioning features without ever fixing any bugs.

I wonder what happened and why donĀ“t they say anything. Did the oiginal team disbanded? Maybe all that money make them go crazy (for 3th world standards it was a fortune) Did the slavic maffia got them and began using their game as a money laundry scheme? at one point they were making 16,000. why throw it all away? oh well.
