UnsungHero Wrote:Actually there was a discussion should Jeo eventually try to show Ari the affection she wants -as limited he is capable of showing- or should Ari just grow enough to realize She was just a fling to Jeo and get past that.
I'm hoping Ari realises she was just a fuckin' fling, because if she doesn't, she must be denser than her shield/bodyarmour is, to resist all those spaceflights and laserbeams.
UnsungHero Wrote:Thats really more the choice Not to go a more dating Sim -ala Vandread Love Quest or Umichan- route where you earn the rp to earn the ability to sleep with them and fits with Jeo as a whole... He has sex to keep himself at full strength and his personal fulfillment... and thats where his ability to give a fuck ends. The story isn't Jeo's heart grows three sizes that day, its Jeo fights his way across space to prove he is not a traitor.
And that's why I like Jeo. It's 'cause he's a baller with the right priorities. That having been said, some of his battle-lines are a little over the top.
"
ALL WILL SUFFER"
Okay there Space Captain Carnage, have a nice day.
That ties into the point I was making about the characterisation, actually.
I'm not saying the girls had paper-thin characterisation.
As a matter of fact, their backstories and characteristics are relatively interesting to me, from what parts of them I've seen.
A lot of their lines seem fitting and pretty effective at conveying their character, too.
I just mean that some of their dialogue seems a bit forced and out of place, and some of their interactions seem a little strange.
Especially in the intro, but also at other points in the game, like Joe's one line above.
Also especially in the intro, sometimes the voice-acting seems to emphasise just how forced some of the lines are.
Well, maybe as far as the intro goes it's more a criticism of the
acting than anything else, I don't even know.
I might or might not ever be arsed to go and get specific examples, but it's a relatively minor thing, just noticeable enough to me to be worth pointing out.
UnsungHero Wrote:Characterization... Well there is that line between believable and Just fuck already and give me hentai!
If that line ever came up, the latter option would in my own opinion be the right side of the line to come down on.
I meant it when I said "fuck all that", even if believable characterisation adds a lot to immersion.
That having been said, and although the line sometimes exists... I don't think it comes up here.
They fuck either because they're horny, or out of a sense of duty to keep Jeo in fighting shape, or because Jeo overpowers them with punishment (somefucking how ... no idea how he can overpower some of them though), and that's all well and good. That's pretty believable.
Now why they OBEY the guy when he punishes them, and don't just leave if he punishes them down to 0 affection?
That I don't know so much.
If there's a reason, then some kind of one-liner somewhere could probably explain it well enough. *shrugs*
...Also we don't actually get to know about the "sense of duty" point from any of their dialogue until maybe a Bri line later, if I remember right.
We don't even find out that Jeo has to fuck to stay in fighting shape unless we actually use him in a mission.
That could be brought more up-front I guess.
And they could give some dialogue/reaction at the opening of the sex scenes, like how Phia's notes that she is absolutely thrilled.
(Fuck yes Phia, the only girl I never had any desire to punish.)
UnsungHero Wrote:I guess cause the sex is easy enough to gain gives the (i)llusion the girls don't have much character or their characterization doesn't matter since there isn't a focus on romance or relationships.
Not to me. I don't care at all about romance or relationships, and to say the girls "don't have much character" because Jeo is an unbelievably baller fucking badass who can
somehow punish-steamroll
nearly laserproof space-marines and fucking
psychic super-weapons into sex would be irrational.
Their personalities might not matter to
the question of whether or not he can get the sex, but that's all in order.
UnsungHero Wrote:Perhaps make it more clear why Ari and co would not just arrest Jeo right at the start... Maybe a message from Lynn that proves or atleast supports Jeo's innocence till they met up with Luma and Co.
Well, the semi-psychic chick said Jeo was "genuine" when he claimed to have been framed.
That's clear enough, I guess, especially taking into account that Ari was ... part of his old squad or something and so didn't want to hurt him.
I don't fully recall, only saw it once.
