Re: Ex-Lurker's Pokemon Game

Looks good, Geist! I already added it into the game. Now I need to figure out how to make it animate.

Still in need of either a coder or someone with links to help get me started. Trying to find that info myself has been a bit overwhelming.

I haven't done any more artwork but I have worked on the map. I had an idea and skipped over Cerulean and went to rt 25 where I plan on adding a optional mini-event area. I'll just share two words for it: Pokemon Tech. :}

I would say you can use all my artwork from the humbird0 game but that would be unfair move to his game. I don't feel crazy enough to redo all my pokemorphs with a different style.

I don't think humbird0 will ever do a second part of his game since the first demo came 4 years ago, I think. If you consider focusing the game in Gen II with a few pokemon from the 1st, I will be gladly to combine myself for both games.

If I didn't have so much planned out for this game then I would skip ahead to a Gen II setting as some of the Pokemon I really want to draw are in Johto. >< I appreciate the thought. I agree that that wouldn't be fair to Humbird0. I plan on doing most of the artwork myself. When it comes to art the only thing I need help with is the more "cinematic" CGs that'll come up while playing. Like the scene with Misty after beating the Cerulean gym in Humbird0's game.

Looking good so far Geist! Can't wait to see Reed, Angelica and Damien! I'll also need a Sprite for Professor Oak and Shop Girl Julia, Todd Snap has one already. Julia you can have a bit of bit of artistic freedom with her design. Let me know when you're ready for the next batch. I'll PM the list to you cause...y'know...spoilers and what not. Can't be unveiling all of my diabolical plans. Muaha..ha...hem. *coughs*

2014 Info
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Dat Ex-Lurker Wrote:After a few years of lurking and popping up at random I've finally decided to actually contribute to the forums. I'm in the process of making more of an adult themed tribute to Pokemon and its fans as opposed to full blown hentai game, though that will be an underlying theme. The discussion for it can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=4771 I locked that thread. I'll just be keeping tabs on my progress here.

I started this on Tuesday night. So far I've finished the basic maps for Pallet, Rt 1, Viridian, Rt 2/Viridian Forest and Pewter City, which I'm currently working on. I'll upload it here once I finish mapping Pewter City.

Things to do before I release the official beta:

Figure out how to add in Pokemon and manage the encounter and battle systems.
Try to find a way to alternate mapping for event specific levels.
Find out how to upload it on here. *Found the Upload Attachment button* -.-;

12/20/14 - Moved the following information from my other thread to this one*

So I have been inspired by Humbirdo, Dark_Onix and various others to finally start making my own game..or two. Project Splicers (http://www.legendofkrystal.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3331) is my original game idea. However, thanks to the first two people I mentioned I really want to start a Pokemon game that follows closely to the first two seasons of the anime, often trailing right ahead or right behind Ash and the crew, but also experiencing a somewhat unique adventure. Additionally, concept pending while I get in contact with Humbirdo as I really want to use the Pokemorph concept which will tie heavily into the game.

Pokemon: PINK

PokemonPink.png

Plot
Follows loosely to events from the anime.

You will be playing as Bay Woods as he adventures across Kanto. During his first visit to Viridian City he witnesses the explosion of the Pokecenter there, knocking him unconscious. He awakes to find that things have changed in the world. A new pokevirus is sweeping across Kanto, one that only affects female pokemon. Little does Bay know that the fate of the virus, and the world is in his hands. And all he cares about is getting to the Pokemon League.

Although Bay will be completing the League challenge and combating Team Rocket the whole way, he will also be caught in the middle of the civil war between Pokemon Conservatives and Pokemorph Supporters. His first Pokemon will be a shy, slow-to-warmp-up Eevee.

Main Characters

Bay.png

Bay Woods

The main character. An aspiring Pokemon trainer and assistant to Professor Oak. He is the son of an archaeologist who spends most of his time traveling the world. Bay, 16, was bored with staying in Pallet and decided to take the Pokemon League challenge, albeit a little late.

Willow.png

Willow

An Ace Trainer apprentice that Bay finds after the Pokecenter explosion in Viridian. She is often serious but has a dry sense of humor. She later becomes part of the Pokemon Conservatives, a group that frowns upon pokephelia and is trying to cure the pokevirus and quarantine the affected pokemorphs.

Reed.png

Reed

A Poke'maniac turned Pokemorph Researcher. Reed is met in Cerulean City where he reveals that he's trying to find Bill. After getting to Bill's Lighthouse, Bay overhears Reed and Bill arguing. Reed joins Bay and Willow after Bay beats the Sensational Sisters. He is highly energetic and becomes a Pokemorph Supporter, those who are in favor of preserving and protecting the virus and Pokemorphs.

Angelica-Damian.png

Team Rocket: Angelica and Damien

Two fresh Team Rocket recruits. Angelica and Damien are siblings whose parents were scientists in Veridian City who were working on a vaccine for a rare pokevirus but stumbled cross something that could be potentially more dangerous; a unique strand. Overhearing their parent's discussion, they rigged the building they working in to release the pokemorph virus. Claiming the explosions in Viridian City as their own doing, they joined Team Rocket shortly after. They look highly upon Jessie and James, their senior members in Kanto.

[No Image]
Shop Girl Julia

Introducing the Julia family. Like the Joys and Jennys, the Julias has a strong family resemblance. They have taken over the Pokemart franchise.

[No Image]
Todd Snap

A renown Pokemon photographer met just outside Pewter City, taking a picture of a pokemorph. He ran the Pokemon Snap shops across Kanto until the Pokemorph virus spread. Afterwards he had to turn it into an adult shop. Although Todd will only be located at the Pewter shop, he owns several Pokemon Snap locations which trainers can use to snap pictures of Pokemon in their natural surroundings.
Additionally Todd also collects pictures which act as currency in the game. He trades photographs for special Pokemon that can't be caught in the wild.

Cameos

Professor Oak, Gary, Ash and crew, Ash's mom and various characters from the show will make special appearances.

Notes

  • I am not planning on having all 151 Pokemon be available in game. However, I do plan on having a unique picture for each one in game, mainly through the photograph system. I may even have it to where if you find all 151 or so pictures then you can get special Johto pokemon...or something.
  • My aim is not really to make a hentai game, but more to make a Pokemon game with an adult twist to it. The hentai/porn will come secondary as the game goes on. I want to feel as if this game could have possibly happened in the Pokemon universe.
  • Some key points to this game are not just Hero vs Villain team, like all Pokemon games. Sure, I plan on having that. Ash couldn't have been the only person fighting Team Rocket, much more Jessie and James couldn't have been the only members operating in Kanto. But also tie in a unique moral civil war between Pokemon Conservatives (Anti-Pokemorph/Pokephilia) and the Pokemorph Supporters (Pro-Pokemorph/Pokephelia) and give a slightly altered story and ending depending on the player's choices.
[spoiler]An example being that at the end of the game Bay ends up with Willow as a Conservative or sharing Pokemon with Angelica as a Supporter.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

I also plan on having a karma system in place. At the end of the game you'll get a bonus ending that depends on Bay's choices towards the Conservatives or Supporters or neutral, if the choice between humans and pokemon is equal.
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Eevee will be caught pre-Pokemorph virus so I wanted to put this out there as a sample.

Did you really need to copy the entire first page? couldn't have save a lot of room just leaving a note of some kind, I mean I don't mind that your informing us on updated information but that takes up pretty much entire page two on your games forum page.
I might not create games, but I will test them, Then I will give advice on what I think needs to be added, removed, or improved.

So I can tell you a few things about the level editor as it stands, at least from what I have discovered by mucking around with it.

1. Adding attacks is difficult. It requires editing things in the ROM.Battle.Moveslist (or something like that. I used a swf decompiler to attempt to figure this out) using a script that runs in the room that loads on game start.
2. Adding pokemon is not hard, but to make pokemon follow you like pikachu is harder. It also gets annoying to manage the more followers you have.
3. Making animations is SUPER easy. Seriously Humbird0 nailed it with this editor. Baisically as long as a sprite's animation is all in the same row it can do a yo-yo, loop, or one-off on the animation.

The scripting portion of the game is fairly simple drag and drop, copy and paste as it uses a graphical development scripter thingy (what else do I call it?) so it isn't as coder-ese as some might think. I might be able to help but I can make no guarantees as i have little time on hand at the moment (work and such).

Also have you tried uploading to mediafire and just linking it for the time being (at least until you can figure the other methods out)?

Yep! Had to take a little break due to life kicking in again. I haven't made any progress on the map itself but I have finished the artwork for several pokemon. Ironically, they're the pokemon that won't be available until later in the game. #prioritizingatitsfinest

I knew about the moveslist, I just didn't know how to edit it. What program did you use to decompress/edit it?

Yeah, he made it to where adding in pokemon is easy. The problem I'm facing is adding them into the game to be battled/caught.

I figured out the animations as well! Of course, I figured out my original error. I had the 'Frozen' option turned on when I went to check the animations so they didn't move. In this aspect I'm trying to figure out how to make NPCs look at you when you talk to them and then face their original direction.

Though my greatest concern right now is trying to code in game events. I.e. when Bay first arrives in Viridian I want a small cutscene with Angelica and Daemian to play before the pokecenter blows up....and...yeah...spoilers. :l

Going over to mediafire now.

Edit: @weirdo232: I'd very much appreciate whatever time and help you could give. I am writing up a guide of what I would like to happen in game as I work on each level/map. It's just the matter of trying to plug everything in.

So I have taken a look at what you have and compared it to what i de-compiled.

Humbird0's method of creating "attacks" is actually done during a battle scene. The only other "declaration" of the attacks is at the very beginning in MovieClip1 where he assigns ROM.moves["movename"].description a value for every move. This has a upside and a downside. Upside is it reduces the amount of RAM used while playing. Downside is it is really hard to insert moves. I can think of a few ways to replicate what he is doing so far but they might be less sophisticated. (seriously Humbird0 really knows how to code effectively). I used this knowledge to "add" a move and it's description after the game had started. but that is all that I can (currently) accomplish.

Something else I noticed about the code is it is possible to inject a new attack (if you can get the de-compiled code working) but the other thing is Humbird0 has the code setup himself in a way that an attack (such as tackle) can be renamed to a different attack (such as flame thrower) and still do damage. All that changes is the name of the move. There is no damage difference. Type difference doesn't come from the move either it comes from the pokemon so that is how he has circumvented the usage of typed moves. So unless you want a new move to have a new damage value, or do something like make someone horny and do damage, then you would have to try and add a new move via his code or re-work the battle system from the ground up.

The one issue I am coming across is I cannot compile either your's or Humbird0's de-compiled code. (humbird0's makes sense as it is de-compiled) but you provided a source. Might I ask what settings you are using to compile with? Am I just a newb and don't know how to compile flash games (probably)

I used Sothink Swf Decompiler to decompile humbird0's game.

Sorry for typo's and grammar errors, I really need sleep :/

Once again, awesome work Geist! Adding them into the game now. :D

A source? I have no idea what you're talking about, weirdo. Whatever I have there I got from Humbird0. Aside from adding in sprites, I haven't touched anything beyond the editor.

For the attacks, is there a way to add animation to the attacks? I should probably replay his game again to look more closely at the moves. ._.;
