Okay I just have to come out and say this, i cannot defeat Brock.
Adore the game, really do but cannot get passed him or his friggin Geodude. (Yes i suck )

The strategy I use is to have a spearow and caterpie with me.
I use Pikachu to stun, then spearow to weaken, and caterpie to hit hard.
Actually, this is the strategy I use against most tough enemies
In Brock's case, you may want to use Ratatta instead of caterpie since Brock has a "cut" attack.

Another possibility is to use fan-art on him.
Horny opponents have a chance of not attacking. (don't worry, male characters don't have "horny" poses)
They'll stay horny unless you use a damaging attack on them.
So if you made Brock really horny, and then spammed spearow for a bunch of turns, he'll be obliterated by the next actual attack.

There's another way to make your pokemon stronger. Let the opponent knock out one of your pokemon and level up. Then the next pokemon will be able to gain experience from it.

As for strategy, Pikachu and Spearow in conjunction works fine for me. It also helps when you can exploit the opponent's weakness.

My team consists of: Level 4 pikachu, level 4 Spearow, and level 4 Ash. Brock was a pushover, his diglet was easy to beat after some clever sand attack and damage. Onix was the only real challenge, damn harden! Brock was kind of hard, but pikachu's stun helped a lot. Now on to cerulean!

Weakening said foe to a few hp before hand is a good idea otherwise it will be to powerful to kill when you give it levels xP)

That actually suggests an interesting remedy to this.
I could make a pokemon regain all of it's HP when it levels up.

Nice Ninetails she's very pretty. No, I wasn't saying it was a problem. I was giving a solution to the problem they posted about leveling. I like it how it is. (Although in my case I can just hack the level, money, etc so it doesn't really matter in my opinion <_>)

Party:
PokeGroper: Level 99, power 10, Hp 999 (to catch pokemon)
Pikachu: Level 99, power 100, Hp 999 (to overkill my foes)
Porygon: Exactly the same as the one that you fight as a boss, mostly just to look at. (XD)
Tentacool: level 5 not hacked,
Caterpie: Level 5 not hacked
Sparrow: Level 5 also not hacked
Money: Over 100k
pokeballs: unlimited
fanarts: unlimited
Ect ect. :3

That sometimes happens.
Just try closing it and pressing it again.
It tries to be context sensitive, based on what you last clicked on.
Even if the help window doesn't work, you can still access it because it's actually HTML based.
Just go to the game editor's folder and open the "help" folder.
You can just open the html files in a web browser.

speak with the assistent or, if u are too lazy, u can hack your save file (humbird give us this possibility, idk if it's a random thing)

@nan: Sometimes a pokemon battle includes more than just choosing "flail"...

edit: that sounded kind of dick-y. I had the same problem, but managed to figure it out when I talked to the Aides.

Like, he loses the hint when it's just before the battle, he only has it in the state immediately before that.

I think I figured out how to avoid this confusion in the next update.
I'll move the aide to the middle of the room where a professor would normally stand in a pokemon game, so you'd instinctively talk to him first, then you'll notice Professor Oak standing in the corner.
