Ice attempted to draw a deer on the Nintendo 3DS but the result was not that great which he's aware of.

I thought that the design could be interesting though so I took a bit of time to redraw things and on top of that color it.

The body is quite extreme but that's the charm. Furies doesn't have to have human like proportions.

I want to give the game an unique style and having unique character design really help.

However, this is nothing that we have decided on, just something that have been thrown together. We will probably go with something normal but if you like it, please let us know

Holy Chun-Li, Batman! Those are some heavy-duty thighs! How do those tiny tiny tiny hooves support all that?

Anyways on a more important note, did you just give a doe antlers? Does... don't have antlers. ... Well, except for reindeer, I guess, but she doesn't really look 'reindeer', does she?

I personally like the style of Icelink's first designs much better. I'm not too fond of the overly toonish, deformed style but it may be just me ^^

Besides, does usually do not feature antlers except for caribou, but then their style doesn't match *gg* But even if they did, the perspective is wrong. It looks like they emerge from somewhere on her back instead of her forehead (you know, between her ears).

But I think a decision for the style used could be important. Maybe start a vote on it :)

The thighs look a little disproportionate to the rest of the doe, apart from that it's a pretty epic drawing.

This promises to become a very nice and fairly original game with a distinctive style. Sadly, I don't think I have anything to contribute since I'm mainly good at data manipulation with AS3, and I don't know which language you're using, but it looks like you have the data manipulation part well in hand :disappointment:.

I would also like to thank you for using the shift key in your driving demo. It helped me to remember to deactivate the key combination for StickyKeys after my recent system recovery :P. I did happen to think though, you might want to be careful of things like that. Operating Systems (especially ones with 'Windows' in front of them, but I doubt others are much better) tend to not think about people playing games that involve rapid button presses, or pressing and holding buttons.

@Wonderful Hawk That's a question we all are asking, it's a mystery. Yep, he did and the antlers is what makes it awesome. I don't know if they'll have antlers or not but I don't think it would be so much of a deal since they're furries, not actual deer and reindeer even got ones. However, I can see it causing confusion and it may be best to not give them those to stay true to the deer design.


@Red.Sheer I'm also more for his other one but I think it's a style that you have to learn to like. It is like Zelda Wind Waker, people didn't like the cel shaded and cartoony style at all but then when they got some time with it they started to really like it. We need to take some risks to be able to create something unique. A vote is not a bad idea but it could potentially limit us to something that might not be good for the project.

They're actually just misplaced and I was thinking about looking up where the antlers is placed but I never did. It was nothing too important so I didn't care but when we'll make the real art then we'll make sure that things is in the right spot.

I'm using AS2, it does everything I need so I don't think I'll move from that any time soon. I test everything I create a couple of times so if I notice anything then I'll make sure to fix it.

Yeah... I wasn't so sure about the antlers myself, but half of my damn references had them.
As for the exaggerated thighs, I have a thing for them. XP (That, and I was going to experimentally ink it in the 70s toon style. Still might do that later. MUCH later.)

If anybody is wondering about the neck, I had purposely made it long. As most of my reference material had them drawn with short necks, and looking very... doggish. (Is that a word?)
That, and i'm one of those furry artists that loves the concept of tribes. And a long necked, graceful tribe would be awesome. (If not in this project, then another.)

...Huh, bigger breasts would have worked. I thought that they looked odd with the thin body while sketching.
Yours looks good though, then again you did straighten out the body where I had curved it.

Your right though, i'll go back to pencil sketches, they're faster even with a small chance of wearing through the paper after 50+ mistakes. But that can be resolved with the old "patching technique".

Edit: Oh, right. Don't worry Red.Sheer my style won't be changing, much. I might make style improvements here and there though.

@Icelink256 Ah, so you was actually going for a long neck. Having necks in various length for the different species could be a good thing. The one in the image bellow is a great example of a well drawn neck.

The head shape would actually work for deer, they're fairly similar.

Also, if you look at her fingers you can see... Whatever those are called... Every species with hooves should have those. However, I think it looks better when they're only as thick as the fingers and a bit shorter so that there is more actual fingers

I couldn't have done an edit without your sketch so it was useful. Well, I figured that it would look better to give her some bigger breasts when her rear and thighs were so big, to balance it a tad.

At the moment i'm just practicing different species' features, i'm working on sketches of Rats and Lizards right now.
So I should have something posted in the next day or two, though, I might just PM it to you again.
(Though this is more likely if i'm too damn lazy to clip out and clean up one of my sketch sheets.)

Damn, the image worked just fine when I first added it. Thank you for pointing it out, now I've downloaded it and added it as an attachment instead which should work without any problems.

No need to clean it, as long as it's possible to see what it is it's fine. You're also practicing which makes it less important.

Haven't had an artist for quite some time now so there is not much to show. We appreciate that Ice wanted to help and for whatever reason he disappeared, we understand.

Anyways, we won't do a lot since we don't have any artist but I have worked on a few things lately. The most important part is that you can save and load game now since the game is supposed to take a while to "complete". It also saves the options so that you don't have to change them every time. The title is obviously just a placeholder and will be made in to a better looking logo once we have decided what we want to call the game.

Another thing that I have worked on is the dialog system. You will be able to write your own replies/answers like originally planed but it will be done in a more controlled way which is overall better.

I got the soundtrack from http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/ and the other sounds from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.

We might have a new artist soon-ish but I don't know at the moment. I know him IRL so that's a plus but he is also a decent artist from what I can tell of his two first furry sketches. I traced and colored one of them and the result is around average. Now I have to show him how to draw in Flash and how to layer things in a way that can be animated.

The dialogue system sounds exciting. Do you have a sample of how that'll work? I mean will you be able to freely enter text strings which will be recognized due to certain keywords like in old text adventures? That'd be awesome :D

I'd also help out with dialogue, of course, if I have the time. Written dialogue, that is. Won't voice act XD

Yeah, that is exactly how it works. You type in your reply/answer, it looks for a certain word and brings you to the appropriate part of the dialog. It also priorities words over other words such as offensive ones over greetings. So, if you write "Hey there, f**k face!" it won't just look at "Hey" since it is the first word, it will ignore that and look for something that is offensive first.

It is a lot of work to get everything to work like intended so I don't have much of a demo yet, just something to test that it works. We'll see I might recreate the dialog from the concept demo so that you can compare it to the old set choices system. I will never go back to that system because it just doesn't make it personal.

It is like the game asks you what it should reply to the NPC rather than you your self replying to the NPC. You also have your unique way of putting words together and that can be expressed by you actually doing it.

It would be great with some help with the dialog. I'm pretty horrible at it frankly so having someone who knows his or hers stuff is always good.
