Sorry, couldn't resist.

Have to admit though, it's nice to see her alive and well - so to speak.

Because if the writing style of her postings combined with the general idea and her previews is any indication, this has all the potential to become awesome indeed. And i don't use that word lightly.

If you or your programmer hasn't already considered it, I highly recommend using a third-party platformer engine such as the Citrus Engine. The greatest flaw in many platformers released here and elsewhere is simply having a poorly built and clunky engine, and I feel the IP you're thinking up here deserves a better fate. Also, Citrus is open-source, so you can still do whatever with it, and there is an appreciably large amount documentation and video tutorials for getting it running.
http://citrusengine.com/ (on their site it still says "purchase", however when you click "purchase" it explains the engine is now free and open-source and how to download)

Secondly (and here's where I hope i'm not stepping on toes!) I'd be willing to do some programming for this project. Again, if your current programmer would prefer to do all the code himself, don't mind me. However if nothing else, I could work on a quality pathfinding and AI system for NPCs, which could easily include Rowr following Iya around through any jump-puzzle you could create and helping out with fights.
If you've got any questions or would like to discuss anything further, feel free to message me.

Actually, Jha, I believe Kitty-kat is programming this herself, as well as drawing the art.

Course, I could be wrong, too. Either way, nice of you to offer, I think.

hmmm.... I was under the impression that Hnyarly had offered to do the coding. Maybe Hnyarly's only providing assistance - I don't know =D.

im doing some of the programming... essentially doing the basics of what i know how to do, then getting a friend of mine to go over it and clean it up (then i trust his judgement from there cause i dont speak/read Spanish terribly well. XD )
i actually had not heard of citrus but (while cleaning and packing XD) ill take a look at it.

well, my offer still stands if you'd rather focus more on art, design, and story and such. I should point out, however, that Citrus can throw up a few problems when you try to export everything to a single .swf (IE, it likes to reference external files such as images that aren't embedded in the .swf automatically. Great for workflow, but on the code-end of things it can be a pain to figure out exactly how to do it, and you otherwise can't just upload a single .swf of your game anywhere - you need to upload the .swf and the /bin/ directory) Again, though, it is certainly possible, and its a problem I'm picking at right now, actually - I'd been meaning to use this engine for Game Jam submissions of my own.

Anyways, not a problem if I end up doing code for you, but if you decide to integrate Citrus yourself, something you should be aware of before you try to upload here and find its missing files it needs to load levels and show graphics ...as happened to me....
>_<
While experimenting with it myself yesterday, see, I figured I'd go ahead and stick in a vector-trace of an image of Iya you have up here in. Naturally, when I went to post here with the idea of demonstrating Iya in-engine and such in-case you were curious and since I was tired of looking at the program's stock graphics, it couldn't find any of the files it needed.

Anyways, I'm still under the 10-post counter, so that's likely fixed by the time this message gets through. =)

If, however, you'd rather do the programming yourself though, tell me. What work I've done on this has been purely educational so far - I'd love to work with you on this IP, but I've got nothing invested in it - I understand perfectly why some people like to do the code themselves.

okay!!!

Iya model is done, just trying to fix the hands now. im sure theres stuff it will need later that ive forgotten, but ill burn that bridge when i come to it.

THANK YOU all who are helping and offering programming help. ill need it, just let me get a few resources in place for you to work with! ive almost got an overworld map screen half done, and a few other bits and pieces, and Iya herself. once some things are workably finished ill post at least screenshots of them. hopefully actual files.

we're moving, so i will be offline for a bit, but as soon as dusty the digital dinosaur here is unpacked and reassembled ill get back to work and finally post a REAL update!

i'll see you all again on here shortly! =^^=
try not to wear cute japanese uniforms and walk down TOO many dark alleys while im gone! (ill have to catch up)

on the bright side, at least this move will give me some time to get some writing done. XD

Anyways, on the assumption that your public announcement means I can do the code for this project, AND the event that you don't already animate like this, Iya will need to be her own movie-clip, with a new frame inside of this movieclip for each animation, such as idle, walk, run, etc. All of these animations will need to be their own movie-clip.

Of course, by the time this gets through, this will probably be quite late! =D (and hopefully not a double-post)

So, you're following the rapevine migration paths now in order to be able to catch one? ;)

Anyway good luck with the relocation. :)

I may be a complete moron, but how do I get past the book? I tried clicking all over it and the pages just keep repeating if I keep pressing next. I see no way to get to the actual game.

Ralanost, I hate to break it to you, but the game is very much still in development. Hopefully Kitty will okay my offer of assistance and I can get some game-play added onto the end of that for ya, but until then, nothing left to see in-game, sadly, though there's plenty of goodies scattered through the last few pages of Kitty's posts here to give everyone an idea of what's comming.

Side note: hooray, 10 posts finally!

Oh no, that is fine. Just based on the discussion here it sounded like much more was already there and some idiot trap at the beginning was keeping me from an amazing game. Keep on keeping on. I look forward to seeing what you guys can produce when it actually becomes playable.
