Living on the Edge (OOC)

Explanation:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

This RP is going to be a bit different from the others, as this will be a Structured RP with rotating Dungeon Master status. This can be thought of as an experiment with autonomous RP. Basically, the RP will have rotating Dungeon Master status in the sense that they make the next post, other actions, such as rolling for your loot, your attacks, and your enemy's attacks will be taken care of by easily viewable dice logs, showing everyone what your rolled for all of the various facets of battle, including what enemy you rolled, and such. Players will also be able to alter their sheet based on leveling up and pick-ups as well. For now, the idea will be loosely structured enough that the players in the RP will be able to add their own enemies to the RP, however, if this idea makes it beyond this RP, I'd think that there would be rules and limitations as far as what the Players are allowed to change/add.

All of that said, I'll be MUCH pickier on who joins, which means for the first time(And likely the only time), I'll actually reserve the right to refuse applications. I'll also be posting my own application, since I won't be Dungeon Mastering by myself.

Lastly, if you choose to join the Discord Server, even if you're not in the RP, you may still post enemy proposals in this thread or the designated Discord Channels.

Plot:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The people of Twin Falls, in Idaho, were going about their lives, safe in their professions and vices. The day of fate was to be yet another one of those days until the first case broke out. No one's quite sure where the disease came from nor how it managed to spread to this city, they weren't even sure when it arrived. The first victim looked like they were just overcome with nymphomania, jumping from partner to partner even if said partner refused. It was when everyone began dying that anyone figured something was wrong. When those dead came back and continued the work of the first victim, everyone KNEW something was wrong. Now everyone tries to continue their everyday lives while living in fear that, at any moment, they could be next to contract this disease.

Mechanics:

Stat Explanation:

HP: The amount of damage required to KO any character. A character who was KO’d will recover after X time, regain 1HP, and be incapacitated.

Strength: The physical strength of a character.
Speed: How fast a character can move/react
Charisma: How attractive/persuasive a character is
Intelligence: How smart/ able to figure things out a character is
Willpower: The measure of how mentally strong a character is
Toughness: How hardy/enduring a character is.
Dexterity: How skilled the character is with their movements.

Businessperson- You are very familiar with controlling the business world and very used to using your personality and smarts to get what you want done. You’re not very used to physical activity though since fighting your dissenters would be bad (+Charisma, +Intelligence, -Strength, -Speed)

Politician- You are a aspiring politician looking to change the town, or world, for good or bad. For now though, you have just entered the scene, and lots of trouble is ahead. (+charisma +intelligence, - strength, -toughness)

Techniques
Takedown - Perform a simple takedown, throwing your opponent to the ground with a chance to inflict Stun. Costs 2 AP.

Precision Aim - Take a moment to dial in your aim on your opponent. While hard to do in a combat situation, the extra second can be the difference between hit or miss

Parrying Position - Take a position which will allow you to riposte attacks with your own. Attack up to 3 opponents that miss an attack against you. Costs 3 AP.

Full-powered Attack - Hit a target as hard as you can manage. Deals double damage and has a chance to inflict Breathless on an opponent, but Stun yourself for a turn.

Berserk - You just can’t take it anymore! Throw caution to the wind and break some skulls in a mindless rage! You’re not being careful to dodge incoming blows anymore though... Your strength and dexterity increase, but your speed drops to 1

Grapple: Grab your opponent and put them into a ‘Bind’ state. While grappled, your opponent can’t attack but you can. Requires Strength Roll to escape.
Arm Bar - Can only be used after successfully using Grapple. Grab your opponent’s arm and put it in position so that the tension on it becomes unbearable. Your opponent usually only has the options of either giving up or having their arm broken. Causes 1 stack of dislocation on the arms if successful
Leg Lock - Can only be used after successfully using Grapple. Take your opponent’s legs and put tension on the knee until it starts bending the wrong way. Causes 1 stack of dislocation on the legs if successful
Chokeout - Can only be used after successfully using Grapple. Place your arm around the carotid artery in the target’s neck and apply pressure. Apply that pressure for long enough and your opponent will fall into cozy unconsciousness. Causes knockout if successful 3 times.
Grapple Strip - Can only be used after successfully using Grapple. Using your proximity to the target, begin ripping off their clothes so you can get to the parts you wanna see. Removes a set of clothing on success, also removing the bonuses from said clothing until it’s re-equipped. 1 success removes half stats (as if you removed their top or their bottoms), 2 successes removes all stats as you have completely stripped them
Grapple Rape - Can only be used after successfully using Grapple and while the opponent is missing lower body clothing. Now that the annoying part is out of the way, you can get to the good part of being so close to someone. Of course, if they’re still conscious or not incapacitated, then they’ll fight back, but that’s part of the fun isn’t it?

Headbutt - Usable during Grapple. Using your hard head, you set out to prove your opponent’s head isn’t as hard. Can cause stun

First Aid - Through your training and/or experience, you know how to patch up a wound. It may not make things all better, but it sure will improve the conditions. Heal 1d6 HP, remove bleeding, 1 stack of dislocated, and disoriented. Costs 4 AP. AP cost halved for Doctor class

Dirty Trick - Because of your will to win no matter what, you’ll pull tricks like throwing dirt in your opponent’s eyes. Anything to win. Causes Blind effect

Status Ailments
Bleed- You’ve been cut, clawed, bitten or otherwise had the outer layer of your skin broken and allowed your blood to spill freely. You probably smell delicious to a Vampire. Or would if they existed. When afflicted with bleed, lose 1 HP per turn. Must take a turn to treat wound and stop bleeding or do so out of combat..

Knocked Out- You’ve taken enough damage that you have completely fallen unconscious. You are completely unable to act until you’ve regained consciousness and even then, you are weakened by the experience of being knocked out. At least your dreams should be nice given less than pleasant things will likely be happening to you while you’re knocked out.

Stun- You’ve taken a rough attack, a bad fall, or otherwise had your gourd completely rung. You’re disoriented to the point that you’re incapable of doing anything else. While stunned, your character can’t act for a turn. Recover the next turn.

Bind- Whether you are tied up, grabbed, or something less pleasant, you are currently unable to move. Your actions are severely curtailed and sometimes you are completely at your captor’s mercy. Have you created a safeword yet?

Blind- You’ve taken a blow to the eyes, are bleeding on the brow so you shut an eye to avoid blood in it, or otherwise have an obstruction to your eyes. You can’t see out of one or two eyes. Often causes disorientation. Reduces dex and speed to 0

Mind Broken- You have lost your will to live, or forgotten how to think. This can be caused by a number of things happening, none of them pleasant. Reduces Willpower, Charisma, and intelligence to 0.

Sleep- You are asleep. Pretty self-explanatory. This acts as a temporary incapacitated status. Being attacked or moved while asleep has a chance to clear the status effect.

Panic- You’ve been thrust into a situation of such intensity that you’ve never experienced before in your life. And it’s freaking you the fuck out. You don’t know what to do or how to react. Reduces stats by a random amount

Excessive pain- You’re in so much pain your body refuses to move, and all you can think about is how much pain you’re in. This acts as a temporary incapacitated status.

Breathless- You’ve had the air knocked out of you. While you can gather yourself enough to do basic attacks, more involved techniques are out of your reach right now. Cannot do Abilities for 1 turn.

Disoriented - For one reason or another, you can’t get a bearing on your surroundings, and vertigo is taking a hold. Reduces dex and speed by -2

Dislocated- A limb has been dislocated, making said limb useless until you receive medical attention for it. Stat reduction depends on the limb dislocated. 1 Arm= ½ Strength, 2 Arms= -All Strength, 1 Leg= ½ Speed, 2 Legs= -All Speed. All limbs being dislocated is equivalent to be semi-permanent bind

Plague- You’ve gone and contracted that disease that’s been going around recently. You know you’ve gotta move quickly to get rid of it or nothing good will happen to you.

Combat Mechanics

If attack crits(Max hit roll), double damage: ((Weapon Dicerolls+Strength)*2)=Damage
If Evasion roll higher than Hit roll, no hit and no damage.
(Damage-Toughness)=Damage (Subtract from HP)

If the player doesn’t have enough money, they may have to get out of the situation through other methods.

Name: Rhea Rogue
Gender: Female
Age: 26
Appearance:
Image

Bio/Background: Rhea started her life similarly to everyone else, she supposes. She wasn’t the smartest, but she got by. She wasn’t the prettiest, but she was pretty enough. Average in almost every regard and very likely to remain that way as far as she knew. Unfortunately for her average life, she was born into the Rogue family. A family that, almost since the beginning of their history with their ancestor Julia Rogue, almost inevitably fell into the grips of madness. Some of the family suspected a curse, some think that mental illness runs in the family, still more think that it’s a punishment from God for some sin that they haven’t repented for. No matter the reason, Rhea was not exempt from this tendency. One day, a student said something wrong. In retrospect it wasn’t anything serious, it definitely wasn’t worth what she did in response. It barely made it into the realm of bullying to be honest. But it managed to kick in her family’s condition and sap her sanity.

She’s been assured that the girl lived through the incident. She was even told that she’ll be able to walk again one day. Rhea knows for a fact the girl will never be called pretty ever again, she’ll probably only have one eye to work with, and she’ll be lucky if she can pick up anything that weighs more than 5lbs. But she can’t find it in herself to care. Whatever snapped within her, her empathy went with it. Because of her family’s history she found herself in an asylum rather than a jail cell, a strait jacket forced onto her so she didn’t harm anyone else. She’s not sure how long she was supposed to be within this asylum, but after 8 years within it she’s gone far beyond bored of a system that doesn’t seem to be working in any way, shape, or form. Especially since she was placed in an isolated ward after she managed to prove a straitjacket is only an inconvenience if she really wants to hurt someone, using her legs and her head to kill a fellow prisoner who saw her bound and decided that she’d be easy to fuck. His last thoughts were of unimaginable pain as she stomped his genitals into paste and repeated the trick with his skull.

Still, there hasn’t been a good time to escape. She knows how, using what free time she’s had to research escape tricks from straitjackets, but she’s just smart enough to know that if she attempts it while everything’s fine she’ll be caught very quickly. She also knows that once she gets out, with a murder and an aggravated assault plus her mental instability, her best chance of surviving will be finding people who don’t mind working around the law and working with them. Recently, she’s heard of a virus going around. She doesn’t know anything specific about it, but she knows that it’s wide spread and it’s affected more than a few of the people running the asylum. If there was ever a time to escape, it’s now.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Bio/Background: Viola lives with her parents, twin sister, Lyra, and older brother, Oboboe, or "Bowie" as he prefers to be called.

Up until she was 5, Viola didn't actually know her older brother, as he was 7 years old when she and her twin sister were born, and didn't return until he was 12 years old, and even then, he was immediately sent to a Private School until the age of 16, which was when Viola was 9. Upon returning, Viola finally got a chance to meet him... which she immediately regretted, as it turned out that he was pulled from the school for violence, and upon returning home had decided that the first person that he saw would be the person he would take out his frustration on, which happened to be Viola, as Lyra wasn't home much due to being far more social and popular.

During the time she was forced to spend with her brother, Viola discovered that he would portray himself as a blameless angel around his parents and friends, but at night, he would sneak into Viola's room to beat and abuse her to his satisfaction, sometimes only for a few minutes, other times for several hours. She tried telling her parents, however, despite having no history of lying, her parents believed that she was lying due to their son portraying himself so thoroughly as absolutely perfect, getting perfect grades, and working hard around the house and town for no cost, seemingly only to be nice. He had also successfully convinced their parents that he was pulled, along with the other student, for defending himself against what said other student had initiated.

While her other brother's tendency towards secret violence plagued her at home, Viola was also bullied by other students in school, mainly because one of the mean girl's love interests had flirted with her. She figured it was just her luck that when someone finally shows interest in her, they're being stalked by a Yandere.

Possibly because she's lazy, maybe because he self worth after all of the abuse she had suffered through most of her life, or possibly because watching her sister become popular and successful at everything while Viola remained average, she chose not to pursue... anything at all after finishing high school. Despite her crippling depression, however, Viola does her best to pretend nothing is wrong with her, or at least outwardly portrays such just enough not to be sent to a psychologist.

Bio/Background: Born and raised in Twin Falls, Elizabeth lived a rather quiet life. Born an only child, she grow-up with her mother and father in a small suburb. Her father, Marcus Robinson was a well known police officer with the TFPD. However, when Elizabeth was 10, he suffered a career ending injury when responding to a robbery. But she always admired his courage and valor. After graduating from high school with honours and as Captain of her school's wrestling team, she left the state to study Criminal Justice and Private Investigation.

If there was one word to describe Elizabeth, it would be disciplined. She is a very by the book kind of girl. When she's not working out at the gym, she's tending to her house plants. She doesn't smoke, rarely drinks, and is rather chaste. The mere mention of sex causes her to blush uncontrollably. But she's also rather easy to get along with.

After completing her training at the police academy, she returned to her old neighborhood to start her career with the TFPD. The Department had sent in a request for more officers to deal with this new outbreak.

Name: Luna Burns
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Appearance:

Bio/Background: Luna is the lead guitarist of a death metal band called "Death's Bastard Suicide Machine." Her skill with the guitar is so amazing that it attracts the attention of people with no interest in the kind of music her band plays. In fact, her skill is so great that she is often listed in the top 5 greatest guitar players of all time. She is quite rich as well thanks to this, though most of it is stored in a bank in a different state. She lives in a large house at the outskirts of Twin Falls, preferring more tranquil and scenic areas despite her occupation. Her rise to the top is as equally impressive. Starting out in Las Vegas, she played with her band in small venues that barely held 100 people and got shot at multiple times, she was stabbed a few times even by some... Extra rowdy fans. However, when she was 20 she struck gold. A music talent scout caught wind of her performance. A very well known scout at that. Overnight Luna found herself to just be another person no one cared about who happened to play the guitar to the talk of the city. Just a month after that her band was regionally famous, known throughout the state. A year later she was national news. It was about as much exponential growth one could get. Recently though, her band has started falling apart, the lead vocalist was accused of sexual assault cause it seems to be the trend to accuse famous people of that, and the drummer was diagnosed with cancer, and the backup vocalist was being a complete asshole about both issues. It wasn't like the band members got along well with each other in the first place, mostly seeing each other as cordial friends or acquaintances. Luna had always been... stereotypical of the death metal girl. She was addicted to vaping, was a rude and loud "bad girl" who couldn't go a single sentence without cussing. She wasn't shy about using her body to gain attention, and was known to have a few affairs. Yet, despite all of this. She greatly enjoyed some peace and quiet. As evident by her home choice, and the fact she has two cats that she adores greatly named Nova and Slayer. Right now though, it seems the band was finished. Just in time for a new disease to crop up according to the news. Seems like stuff was going downhill for her fast.

Bio/Background: Aisha Barker had never been a good student, mostly because she had other things to worry about and just didn't have the patience to focus enough on her learning. Her Father and Mother had divorced, leading to her living with her mother if only because the woman wasn't moving away from the town she'd been in her whole life... though neither parent had ever really been one to bother with their daughter. Her mother now was focused fully on dating random men, using the Child support she was getting to pay off bills and enjoy herself as Aisha had begun to realize if she didn't figure out her own future money problems that she was going to end up on the streets or worse... and it was during this process she realized she could make use of her most useful feature... her body. Thus began Aisha offering the boys at school a chance to pay for her services, starting off small of course... but eventually a Teacher caught wind of it and instead of turning her in paid to be the first to actually have her. Using this, she ended up graduating and setting herself to make this her career... little by little growing more popular and skilled in the sexual arts. Aisha is now doing well, having her own apartment and her clients are willing to pay highly as she's become more open to all sorts of things she never imagined she'd do... still, this new disease the news has been talking about could ruin some of her upcoming jobs and that's just bull shit.

Name: Marisa Shiroma
Gender: Female
Age: 24
Appearance:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Image

Bio/Background:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Marisa Shiroma is a simple former gangster looking to survive the streets, and the former member of a gang named the Red Redeemers. She grew up in a dangerous neighborhood riddled with crime, poverty, and blood. In these types of places, only the strong survived, and you could trust no one. Young Marisa had taken that to heart, and following that, she never had anyone she'd consider a friend, but she was a thief, and being a lone thief in this dangerous neighborhood wasn't very profitable. That's why Marisa would commonly run with a gang of fellow thieves near her age who'd help her win some big scores. This gang had no name, and had no value in the way of the world. They were street rats looking for nothing more than the necessities in life; food, clothes, and porn magazines. This was their simple way of life. One that would soon be endangered and changed.

Progressive trouble came in the form of a new gang coming to town. A violent one that quickly went to war with all the other gangs, won, and established themselves as the rulers of the streets. They were called the King Cobras, and they were vicious and hungry for everything they could take. This big name gang had a fancy for taking in smaller beaten gangs and subjugating them as their lackies, which included the nameless gang Marisa had been apart of. Life was hell for her under the reign of the King Cobras. Marisa learned a lot of lessons about the harshness of life and the dangers of crime, but even in those dark times, she clung to her determination to survive. No matter what the Cobras did to her, she was a survivor, and her tenacity eventually got her to proving herself as a valuable enough asset to the King Cobras' leader to afford herself some freedom.

That was their mistake. While Marisa was by no means upset by what she'd been put through, simply put, she didn't value her chances of survival in the King Cobras. Even as she now was more valuable chess piece, she was no more than a big pawn to the leader, easily disposable and replaceable. She had needed more power. More safety. She didn't have to wait long for the opportunity to present itself.

A young man by the name of Marcus established a coup in the gang. He rallied the unsatisfied grunts of formerly subjugated gangs and caused chaos inside the structure of the group. It wasn't particularly difficult. The King Cobras were quite well-structured, but their leader wasn't the brightest. He'd taken in more gangs than he thought, and assumed he'd be able to control them, never expecting someone would motivate them to use their superior numbers to revolt. Marisa saw the potential in the charismatic leader of the mini-rebellion, so using the panic to get closer to the King Cobra himself, she quite simply assassinated him in his moment of weakness, thereby ending their miniature war.

After that, the Red Redeemers were established from the remains of the King Cobras. Red due to their bloody revolution, and Redeemers because they were all bad people who became/would become better. That's what the naive Marcus had came up with. Marisa didn't care. She simply decided to work her available angles and made herself seem important. In time during the developing stages of the Red Redeemers, she became a high-ranking member with pull second only to Marcus himself... but when the world all went to shit, the Red Redeemers were sent into a crisis as many of their members fell victim to the disease. The lone wolf that was Marisa Shiroma realized the dangers of this new world, and took to the winds, abandoning her gang without even a word.
