The world of Cadai. A modern, very diverse land full of all kinds of magical happenings. Orcs, elves, humans, and all kinds of other races have formed a magically and technologically advanced civilization. (technology is equivalent to what 2025 or so would be) The magic arts cover a wide range of areas, some of which technology cannot compete against, and others technology wins over. The most well known of the magic's is the magic school of summoning. A act where a human may summon a monster (girl) from another plane of existence and use them to fight for glory or entertainment. The Snowy northern kingdom of Jugar is well known for their use of summoners. In fact many lend their status as the leading nation in magics, wealth, military, and culture to be cause of their widespread use of summoners. Not to mention they are technological leaders as well with the most advanced weaponry and consumer goods. Led by a benevolent ruler, the people of Jugar are happy and content with their lives. Meanwhile, to the east and west lay the lands of Korat and Rasard. Both covered by forests and grasslands these lands use summoners much less freely, viewing them with caution. While by no means poor nations, compared to the might of Jugar, they are lowley third world countries, where poverty and strife most definitely exist. And in the Southern badlands, there is no civilization. There is nothing in fact. Explorers sent there never return, and both Korat and Rasard ban their people from venturing down south. Jugar however has their eyes set firmly on these lands for reasons unknown.

Welcome to another new, highly experimental RP! Featuring highly tactical turn based battles on a drawn square grid dynamically updated as the battle progresses, and most importantly, featuring Two GM’s! Them being myself, Littlemankitten, and RandomRoninKitten. Identifiable by our colors.


This RP takes place in a world where monster girls are captured, and contracts are made for them so that they can be summoned in battle. While the player character, known as a summoner, may take part in battle themselves, the main method of fighting your enemies will summoning your monster girls to fight for you.

A system which we totally did not rip off from a game. Anyway, each monster girl has an associated element along with them. These elements being; Neutral, Light, Dark, Wood, Earth, Water, Ice, Fire, Wind, and Thunder. Some of course are weak to others, and some are strong to others, and Neutral doesn’t care about anything. Specifically;

Light <> Dark | Fire < Ice < Wind < Earth < Wood < Thunder < Water


Certain monster girls are obtained through specific items, others can be caught after defeating them. To put it simply, if it’s not male or human, you can probably catch it. Cause men are weak! Or something. Speaking of weaklings, did you know you can take defeated humans prisoner? As your prisoner they basically act as your servant, your maid, your slave, your D class. (spot the reference) having to do what you say, or face getting killed by you or your monsters. The method of imprisonment is directly tied into your summoning method, so if you use runes you carve a rune into the victims flesh, if you use circle you case a magic circle bounding them to servitude, and if you use gem you can imprison them in there, etc. But first, how does one defeat an enemy you ask? Well;

Battles will take place in a square grid dynamically updated based on the movements and actions of players and opponents. Positions of players and opponents will be represented by specifically colored dots. Weather/terrain effects will be represented by highlighted borders on each square. No highlight means no effect.
During these battles, you’ll be summoning your creatures into battle, using the various summoning techniques listed below:
Summoning types:

1. Circle: Cast a magic circle and wait for the monster to come out of another dimension.(Cuts summon time in half/Range 3)

2. Gem: Throw a gem which holds the creatures soul and wait for it to open.(Reduces summon time by 2/Range 2)

3. Ritual: Gather certain ingredients and follow a step by step ritual. Required for higher power creatures.(For specific creatures, may increase HPL/Range 1)

4. Sacrifice: Sacrifice something, often your own blood or another person to summon dark and powerful creatures.(For specific creatures, instant summon once sacrifice is made/Range 1)

5. Tome: Reading or opening this book will summon a creature.(Instant summon, unknown summon at first, very rare/Range 3)

6. Chant: Chant a certain string of words, similar to a ritual, to summon a creature. Often low powered.(Can only be used for ST1 creatures, doesn’t take your summon action that turn, can only use Chant summons the turn you use a Chant Summon, summons ST1 creatures instantly./Range 1)

7. Rune: Draw, etch, burn, or otherwise make a rune to summon a creature.(Summon time is reduced based on the amount of runes placed on the battlefield./Within 1 Range of any Rune on the Battlefield)

These summoning techniques have various benefits and side effects, depending on which you use and what you’re summoning with them. For example, Gems reduce the ST(Summon Time) for the creature you use them to summon, making a creature with 2 ST into a creature with no ST, causing them to summon instantly. Meanwhile, Summoning Circles cut the summon time in half, causing a creature with 2 ST to become 1ST, but also causing a creature with 6 ST to become 3 ST.

When creating your character, you’ll also select your character’s element preference and proficiency in that element, as well as class. When selecting your element proficiency, remember that your mastery over other elements will be reduced by an amount equal to your main element’s buff. Your options are 1(30%), 2(60%) and 3(90%).

Background: Bella Harleston was born to a rich couple who lived in Korat. They were William and Penelope Harleston. The Harlestons sought to give Bella, their only daughter, the whole world... but they were murdered when she was 3, so there plans didn't go as expected. With no next of kin; Bella was given up for adoption, and soon, she was adopted by another influential couple who owed her parents. They had planned to take care of her in the name of her deceased parents, but once more, those plans went wrong when their history of illegal activities caught up to them and they were brought before the law. She was then adopted AGAIN by a family who simply just liked 5 year old Bella, who promised to take care of her and to be the family she never had... predictably, these plans failed when her new family ended up having so many other problems that the adoption agency had to step in and take Bella away from them. The rest of her life could be simplified by simply saying; everyone around her just had terrible luck, including herself, who was in and out of homes all the time in her childhood. This caused her to grow up a bit jaded and superstitious, believing that she's cursed to ruin the lives of everyone who gets close to her. She often distracts herself from these negative thoughts by joking around, causing her sense of humor to be pretty dark.

After some time, Bella grew up and was too old to be adopted. She took care of herself from then on, starting of with a low paying job, and then using the money she got from that to buy herself an apartment in a rough neighborhood. It was a chance she was willing to take to finally get away from the adoption agency, though, so she was fine with it. In this neighborhood, Bella met an older man named Harvey, who was the neighborhood's resident mechanic. He took her under his wing, giving her a better job as his assistant and teaching her his trade, and in time they grew to be quite close. Harvey was the closest thing to a father Bella ever had, so in an attempt to protect him from her "curse"; she cut all ties with him and opened up her own auto repair shop. Obviously this sparked some feelings of betrayal in Harvey, but as was his passive nature; he allowed her to leave him, and the two never spoke since.

Bella's auto repair business began to become more lucrative, as she learned quite a lot from Harvey and was a younger, more appealing and fun person. But while she was doing great in her work, she didn't figure out that she was seriously cutting into Harvey's own business, until he closed down. It was painfully ironic how she left him to try and save him from her air of misfortune, but her attempt to save him ended up being what she was trying to protect him from. She obviously felt bummed out about this, and this event was what eventually pushed her to learning magic. She always wanted to know just WHY everyone around her always had such bad luck, so she figured it was maybe some sort of magical curse. She saved up some money for magic lessons, and explained her circumstances to her teacher. Said teacher didn't know a thing about what she was going through, and suggested that it simply might not be a magic related thing. She didn't believe him, but she learned a bit of magic out of the deal, so it worked out somewhat.

Background: Sarah was born in Rasard, to a happy family as the fourth child. Being the youngest sister with three brothers meant she certainly didn’t have an easy time growing up. She was the weakest and the youngest so was often at the wrong end of her brother’s jokes. Sarah had other things to do however. She enjoyed nature and spent a lot of times out in the forests that dotted her homeland.

She always yearned for what she couldn’t see though, and she wanted to explore the southern lands… Which was obviously illegal. So when she became an adult, she joined the military, hoping to get as close to the south as possible and getting some more adventure along the way. Training was though for her as discipline didn’t really come natural to her, but she persevered, even though at some points she thought training would break her.
Sarah spent a few years with the military guarding the border with the wastes to the south, occasionally stopping people willing to risk it all there. The Rasardian military trained hard, always expecting something from the south to come for them at one point. They didn’t have the technology or the magic of their big neighbour, although they were well supplied and trained. But, so far, nothing came.

Now 20, Sarah Falkheart has served a few years, gaining some skill with both normal and magic weapons. However the normal military life began to bore her, and she was hoping for some opportunity to get some real adventure…

Alexander was like any other child, curious and adventurous. His parents were simple people who made a small rural town in Jugar their home. Alexander had friends, a normal school life and a comfortable existence. One day, Alexander was playing in the forest close-by when the clear sky turned into a fierce blizzard. Lost and on the verge of freezing, a woman in a white coat suddenly appeared and took his hand. She led him to a hut deep in the forest were a roaring fireplace awaited him. The woman pulls down her hood to reveal her slender face, long white hair and elven ears. He would later learn her name was Esmeralda Stormweaver, a disgraced researcher and renowned summoner. With a gentle smile, the mysterious woman offers him a cup of hot chocolate to warm him up. Ever trusting, Alexander took the beverage and drinks the whole thing. It isn’t long before he passes out.

When he comes to, Alexander finds himself in a cage with a group of other children. Scared and confused, all they could do is wait. Every now and then, a monster girl would arrive and feed them scraps and give them water. Then Esmeralda returned to take a vial of blood or strand of hair from the children into a private room. But then she started to take the children themselves into the room, none returned. Finally, it was Alexander’s turn. Esmeralda took the young boy into her study. With a prick of her blood, she opened a portal. From it, a powerful demon sprang forth with large horns and a devilish smile. The demon and Esmeralda exchange a look then turn to the boy. In an instant, the demon flew towards Alexander and plunges her claws into his very soul. He can feel his mind shatter as his very essence was ripped from his body. Just as the world fades away, a team of summoners stormed the room and interrupted the ritual.

The rash of kidnappings and sacrifices would come to be known as the Yuki-Onna incident. It was high profile case that would make national news. It also put the morality of Sacrificial summoning back into the spotlight. But that is a conversation for another time. Despite being reunited with his family, Alexander couldn’t help but feel … hollow in some way. As he grows older, Alexander learns to put on a plastic smile for his family and friends. But behind that smile lie a dark sense of humor and a seeming lack of empathy. For the time being, Alexander spent his days listlessly until he discovers a book written by his former kidnapper on the art of sacrificial summoning. Alexander’s thoughts immediately went to the demon that almost killed him. Suddenly he felt the need to see her again. He began practicing the techniques listed in the book, giving his own blood and the blood of small animals to the powerful monster with no success. Alexander know what he had to do, he had to learn more about summoning. At the age of 19, he convinced his parents to let him attend a school in Juger’s capital to learn the art of summoning. They were more than happy to send him away having grown frightened to even share the same house with him. By day, he is a regular college student. But by night, he engages in many a foul practice. All to reunite with the demon that possesses a part of his soul.

Cecilia's life can be summed up as a series of colossal screw-ups, mistakes, and 'bad luck''. She was born to an unwed couple that did not want a child, by complete mistake, after which she was sent from foster family to foster family,
due to being a cleptomaniac that not only couldn't stay out of trouble, but also was bad at not being caught in said trouble. By the time she had reached 14, she had a very long rap sheet of mostly petty theft and shoplifting.
It was at that time that she tried to rob the wrong person, one of the few remaining living practitioners of the ancient art of ninjitsu, who wasted no time in kicking the stuffing out of her for trying to rob him. It's usually at this point that one would take pity on them, or see potential in the thief, or some such, however, the Ninjitsu practitioner saw no such thing in a lowlife like Cecilia, but also decided not to call the police, since she was so weak, inept, and helpless that she actually caused no trouble, and only gave him a much needed workout. However, not one known for her intellect, and not so quick to give up, Cecilia began attempting, daily to weekly, attempting to rob this same man, over and over. These repeated beatings and failures, as well as firsthand experiences taught Cecilia much in the art of stealth and ninjitsu as a whole... after she got out of the hospital.

Vivienne is a girl who was raised by her elven mother and never knew her father. She constantly wondered who her father was, but learned early not to ask her mother as she would deflect the question with a sad look on her face. She barely remembers seeing her mom since she worked so hard to support herself and her child that she was really only home to sleep. So from an early age she learned to be self-sufficient in order to cover the lack. Both due to her more mature outlook and her different appearance, she was also picked on quite a bit in school. She knew her mother disapproved of violence in nearly all forms, so Vivi attempted to just grin and bear it and isolate herself so that it happened less often. One day she noticed that the hits barely fazed her. Unfortunately her bullies did as well, so they decided to up the ante and start attacking her outside of school with weapons. One time this drew her mother, who she'd mostly hidden everything from, and the instant her mother was harmed, she snapped. She doesn't remember exactly what she did, the blow she took to the head probably caused that, but she does remember almost killing one of those boys. It was only then that the school began to pay attention, attempting to expel Vivi for harming her bullies. The incident with the bullies, however, taught Vivi that her mom's nonviolent approach to life did not work. At least not for her. So she fought back. She showed that she'd been going through similar things for years at that point and that she could take the issue to the police and have them sort it out. Not wanting the reputation of the school to be sullied with formal charges, they dropped the issue and Vivi's personality as a forceful person was created.

She spent the rest of her school days kicking ass and ignoring the look of disappointment she'd get from her mother on the rare occasions they'd see each other. At this point, the lack of contact, her growing self-sufficiency, and growing into a vastly different person that her mom caused the two to barely speak to each other even if they were home at the same time. It got to the point that, at the age of 16, Vivi moved out just so she didn't have to deal with it anymore. Of course, this accumulates bills and such, which means she needed to get a job. Since school always sucked for her, she didn't mind dropping out in order to support herself. Using the reputation she'd gained in school, she sold herself as a mercenary who'd beat anyone down for the right price. Her client would have to justify any deaths they wanted her to do, something very rarely done, but she would beat people to the point of broken bones with no trouble. After a year or so of this, she felt she was getting too close to becoming like the bullies she hated so she switched her services to a more protection-oriented one, becoming a bodyguard. And that's what she's been doing for the past 4 years. She enjoys being able to set her own hours and was even study and enroll in a college because of it. Nowhere prestigious due to her dropping out of school before, but somewhere she can learn the basics of magic and such in order to further her ability to defend others.

Salsa, despite her very human like appearance is in fact a demon, if a young one by her race standards. Despite her actual age, she looks a lot like a teenager, or young adult by human standards. Long ago, she was summoned to serve a human. However, due to her own inexperience, shy personality and less than thankful master, he ended up leading himself into and early death, leaving Salsa stranded in the world of Cadai.

Due to her striking resemblance to a human, Salsa took on a new identity and began learning summoning magic herself, intending to find a way to one day return home to her own world. During her travels in search of knowledge concerning magic that can help her, she learned to control her own element, water. She uses her magic together with a simple, stolen flintlock pistol which she had remade into a more efficient magical tool. The tool collects the moisture in the air, condensing it into water which is then used instead of bullets, shooting droplets out at incredible speed, the power and shape behind the droplets being manipulated by Salsa herself. With a lot of practice, she became an excellent marksman.

While Salsa originally despised humans, blaming them all for the actions of one, she eventually came to see that it wasn't fair to judge an entire race by the actions of a single being. It would be doing just what other races had once done about her's, many rumors and tales spoke about evil demons and how they brought corruption or blight. While some of them could have been true, there had been good demons as well. Witnessing good people once she began actually looking for them, Salsa eventually managed to overcome her hatred for humans and began properly interacting with them, making some friends, as well as some enemies on her travels.

She is no longer shy, but a confident, quirky woman who likes to travel. She writes about her journey in a journal and has taken to not only search for a way back home, but to also write down as much about the world of Cadai as she can. She has come to enjoy travelling for the sake of travelling, exploring new places, new sights and to meet new people, experience new cultures and try new food. She has become an adventurer.
