Biography: Jamie was actually born in the city-state of Terak two decades ago. The child of a fisherman and a baker, he didn't have to worry about a rough childhood full of empty stomachs or his parents scrounging enough money to pay the bills. No, there was plenty of smoked fish and soft bread for Jamie to eat as he grew, but rather he had to worry about bullies and his own father's approval. Later when looking back at his life once he had become the apprentice to the court magician, it seemed rather petty and unimportant, but back as a kid those were the two things that bothered him the most. His father at first had been ecstatic to have a son, after all he'd have someone to past down the honored tradition of fishing down to his son. But as Jamie grew, it became more apparent that he wasn't going to shape up to be the type of son his dad wanted. His features stayed rather androgynous, an almost feminine figure that wasn't helped by how pale and soft his skin stayed even after countless fishing trips. On the fishing expeditions, Jamie was close to useless; not enough endurance to continuously haul in the catches, too weak to lift the nets full of fish, too frail to spend the whole day out in the sun and on the boat. He rather spend his days inside of their bakery with his mother, watching her barter and sell her goods. That how he learned the basics in convincing people that some things were worth more or less than they really were. It came in handy especially on days when the other children tried bullying him for his feminine figure.
It didn't get much easier in his teens when most of the other boys had started developing muscles and facial hair while the only thing that kept growing of Jamie's was his hair. By then his father had completely given up on making a fisherman out of him, content to mutter around him what he could have become if he had more backbone. All the negative reinforcement made Jamie turn inward and spend more time inside, constantly spending the days in his room meditating and thinking of ways to better himself or make himself useful. It was during one of these sessions that his magic powers manifested in the form of holy light setting his bed on fire. It was a surprise to everyone in the family as neither side had records of magic talent in their families. For Jamie it was something that finally gave him worth in this world. At first he used it to put on shows for other kids in exchange for extra coin. But as word spread, his family began to get visitors looking to either buy him or take him away to train him. Most were admittedly shady, probably wanting to use his magic for their gain, but once in a while an official representative from different kingdoms would come to try convincing him and his family that he would be in better hands with them. His father was finally giving him the time of day and making sure he was safe from all the people that wanted him to be part of their agendas, it was almost perfect.
He ended up going to one of the court-mages of Edlos, who was in need of an apprentice after the last one teleported himself into a wall. The conditions of his apprenticeship seemed pretty generous, with his family receiving coin for every year he remained alive and in service. The ride to Edelin was smooth enough, although he hadn't brought anything since he was supposedly getting all new furnishings to look the role of a mage's apprentice. It was a new start at life, for Jamie one that he timidly reached for. It wasn't easy at first, having to truly apply himself to learning more of the magic he had accidentally done on whims at first, nor getting used to the hustle and bustle of the castle that he lived in. No one seemed to really pay him any mind, and the ones that did usually mistook him for a lost girl, usually due to his androgynous form and rather nervous look he almost always had on his face. Even with highly-lethal magic at his command, Jamie's timid deposition would never change and why would it? Standing out too much left room for disappointing others, better to keep studying magic than show-off.
Personality: Jamie doesn't really have much ambition, usually living and planning day-to-day, easily content with whatever he's given. He doesn't like being noticed of given too much attention because it usually leads to teasing or disappointing someone, so he's mostly a shut-in. He doesn't really have any opinions on politics since that's far from his realm of expertise, but does believe that the human kingdoms should at least form an alliance in case a demon army or the tribes to the north try invading. Jamie also practices the worship of Iomedae, believing her to be the source of his magic abilities, praying in hopes of being able to keep his powers to remain in this situation that helps his parents. He's rather timid, preferring others to make decisions for him or take charge but he does have the intelligence to make his own choices, just prefers not making ones that could cross others. He isn't too idealistic, knowing that for the most part the world is chaotic and random with goodness not winning by pure virtue. That being said, Jamie does strive to be a good person, if only to avoid having others hate him.
