Pokemon: Battle for Redemption Isle (OOC)(2 spots available)

Postby XanderFrost » Sat Jul 16, 2016 12:25 am

"Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome! I am Professor Pine! Unlike what you've heard in the past about the Pokémon world, you're about to discover that those stories are fairy tales told to protect children's dreams. In this world, humans and Pokémon are in a never ending war for control of not only Earth, but also the secrets hidden within. The humans, with their guns and swords, currently take residence in the mysterious island grouping known as the Redemption Isle. Pokémon reside nearly everywhere, some even inhabit Redemption Isle. These Pokémon are seen as traitors by other Pokémon and are branded as criminals. In fact, not everything is false about your stories. Those who are lucky are born with the unique ability to speak to Pokémon, though it is only their partner Pokémon they can speak to."

After nearly one thousand years of war, the human safe haven known as Redemption Isle is being attacked by Ferals, Pokémon who wish for supremacy over humans. It's up to the chosen few who can speak to Pokémon to save the entire human race. After an attack has been made on the capitol of Redemption Isle, the HDF (Human Defense Force) has decided to recruit as many young trainers as possible. This is where our young trainers come into play. These squadrons of trainers have been training their bodies and Pokémon for nearly eight years. Good luck, teams.

This story will consist of 9 people.

I'm interested, but I would like to know a bit more about the setting and any sort of rule system before I commit.

I'm also interested. Unfortunately I will be away from home without internet starting Sunday and won't be back until sometime Thursday. Just thought that might weigh in on your decision about reserving me a spot in the RP.

I'm working on the gameplay's minor details and configurations now, stats for everyone's Pokémon are going to be easy, but damage calculation is a pain.

Well... If you don't have an idea yet for damage, you could always swipe the system from D&D. Size of hit dice and bonuses would be determined by type + stats. They gain a hit die each level to determine how many hp they get. Damage dice would be determined by the attack they use, as well as level. For type comparisons (water vs rock for example) you just need to apply the resistance and vulnerability rules.

Admittedly, I don't know if this will work with your system as I don't know how the other rules and stats play out. The other concept I know for damage would be the system from Anima. Both sides roll a d100, one for the attacker and one for the defender. Based on how much the attack roll beats the defense roll, that determines the damage of the attack. Everything else just boils down to getting as many bonuses or penalties. Using pokemon type as an example again, water could get +20 to attack and defense against rock types while rock will get -20, creating a 40 point difference. This also lets you deal with pokemon that have both advantages and disadvantages based on type (electric vs rock/water for example) and calculate things like terrain and surprise. The only thing is that this system lends itself to larger numbers, so it won't work if your system deals with smaller stats.

Hopefully these concepts at least give you some ideas of how to make damage calculation easier.

I was thinking more like:
Phys. Attack with power 40 used by a Pokémon with 15 Atk. would give 27.5 minus the Def. of the defending Pokémon...

You know, make a formula...

How do we determine our partner's stats? Is it based on our own, or do we have to use some of those 15 points on them as well?

I forgot to put that small tidbit huh? The partner Pokémon are like the trainer, they have 15 points of their own to distribute. The HP is set to 10 automatically, then you can add with the 15 points.
