Wanted
Five (5) evildoers of above-average ability or talent (preferably better, but we're stretched here) to aid a novice Dungeon Master in acts of evil, nefariousness, larceny, theft, murder, torture and tax evasion.

Minimum Requirements
Has at least two brain cells to rub together.

Responsibilites
As required by your Dungeon Master.

Pay
Solid gold, proportional to your success. Many opportunities for career advancement depending on your willingness to backstab people.


What's This?
It's an RP based loosely on the classic strategy/management game Dungeon Keeper. You will play as nefarious minions in the employ of your Dungeon Master, seeking to conquer a world of do-gooders and poncy heroes in the name of evil! I will take the five people in this RP, so if you're interested, post character sheets. If you don''t get picked, don't worry - you may be called upon if people drop out.

The fantasy world of Gloriana is the most generically Tolkien you can imagine. Proud, arrogant humans, poncy elves, drunk dwarves, blah blah blah. All ruled over by the good King Antonius, of course.

It was not always thus. Before him, they lived in fear of the Dungeon Masters. Mages who desired power, wealth and a chance to live somewhere not insufferably twee, the Dungeon Masters had found a process to remove their spirits from their bodies and infuse them into "Dungeon Hearts", turning themselves into living caverns and dungeons beneath the surface of the earth. Rallying the downtrodden and overlooked races to their cause, they waged a campaign of war against the goodly heroes. Unfortunately, they lost. Banished to an otherworldy Astral Prison, they were forced to plot and scheme a way out.

Obviously they did. And the old saying of "evil prevails when good does nothing" holds true, as the insufferable Kingdom appear to have done nothing new in your absence. Time to show them what they've been missing.


Mechanics

This game is fairly mechanics light and story focused. I mean, we know what we're really here for.

Dice
If what you're doing doesn't have story consequences, or isn't interesting, then don't bother rolling. However, if it is, roll two six-sided dice and add them together.
  • A seven or more is a Hit - you accomplish the thing you're trying to do.
  • A ten or more is a Crit! Not only do you succeed, you get a bit extra too, and nobody can take it away from you.
  • Sadly, a six or less is a Miss. You may have to make a hard choice to succeed. Or, if it's really bad, you'll be in a real pickle.

Approaches
"But what if my character is better at certain things?" I hear you cry. Well, that's where approaches come in. They're much like regular RPG attributes in that they say how good you are at certain things. When you roll and one of your approaches would apply, add the relevant number to your total. There are four approaches:
  • WRATH - Smash things, break down doors, beat up heroes
  • GUILE- Hide, outplay others, see through dastardly plans
  • COLD - being undead or fearful, intimidate others
  • HOT - persuade, seduce, be charismatic

You start the game with a +2 in one approach, a +1 in a second, a 0 in a third and -1 in the fourth. Assign them how you like, but be warned - that minus means you aren't great at that one thing.

You can't apply multiple approaches to a roll. Cheating is only allowed in-universe, mister.

Powers!
Oh yes, powers! You're all magical or skilled or what have you, after all. Powers let you succeed at something or do something special without rolling for it once. After using it, you can't use it again until you take a break (whatever this consists of is... up to your tastes) or until someone gives you a nice shot of reinvigorating magic. You begin with two powers, but have a chance to earn more.

Items
You always have whatever items it makes sense for you to have. Daggers and poisons for an assassin, lockpicks for a thief, spell-books for a cultist. Only record any items of note - nobody is too bothered about how many arrows you have, or how many rat bones you've collected.

Only cold hard gold is accepted in the dungeons. Since most lowly creatures can't count above ten, how much cash you have is rated on the below scale, in ascending order.
  • Broke - flat broke. You better find some money, or steal some.
  • Handful - enough for a few meals at the tavern or a hidden dagger.
  • Purseful - enough to treat yourself to something nice, or a new weapon.
  • Sackful - enough to start a raucous party, or get a suit of armor.
  • Chestful - enough to retire and buy a nice cave. Except you can't. Get back to work!

Whenever you buy something equal to your current level of wealth, it drops to the one below. Buying stuff below your wealth level doesn't dent it - a purseful of gold will get you meals and board for the forseeable future.

Combat
When combat starts, enemies act first, and then players do. Player actions are resolved in the order people post in. Player characters get to make one attack, use a power, or do something else like open a door or sprint to the other end of the room.

Weapons and combat distances are generally abstracted - if you have a sword, you'll run up and hit them with a sword. If you have spells, cast fireballs and stuff!

When attacking someone, a Hit on a die roll will deal them Harm. Player characters can take five harm before being knocked out of the fight - either captured, rendered unconscious or just left unable to fight. NPC's generally take less. As a general rule:
  • A HIT will deal harm but allow the foe to strike back.
  • A CRIT will deal harm with no chance to retaliate.
  • A Miss deals no harms and leaves you open.

You recover all harm after battle.

All powers here are generically themed - feel free to give them new names and theme them around your character. A hardened warrior and a slinky succubus can both take taunt - they just do it differently!

  • Taunt - force a foe to attack or pay attention to you for a moment of time
  • Dispel - prevent an enemy attack spell from firing off, or remove an enemy defence spell
  • Vampirism - whenever you defeat a foe in combat, you may choose to not attack on your next go to regain a point of harm
  • Teleport - move instantly to any one location you can see
  • Stealthy - when combat starts, enemies will overlook you until you attack
  • Lockpicker - you may instantly bypass the security on a locked door, chest or barrier
  • Heal - heal an ally of up to two harm
  • Charmer - get someone to do at least one thing for you, with or without a bribe or some form of compensation
  • Invigorate - allow an ally to use a power a second time
  • Disarmer - force an enemy to not attack on their next turn, or disable a nasty trap
  • Defend - take a blow meant for an ally
  • Beastmaster - render a hostile animal or beat docile
  • Ressurect - bring a knocked-out ally back into the fight with 2 harm remaining.
  • Phase Shift - forfeit your attack to prevent all damage from physical attacks
  • Tracker - learn where a target was last and where they are headed

Bio: What started as a simple scarecrow serving time out in a field of corn soon turn corrupted when a witch comes strolling along and brought this simple scarecrow to life. Out to cause mischief for the family before moving towards the local village, the witch use this scarecrow to create all sorts of chaos, implanting all sorts of magical charms into the scarecrow to allow him to use a fraction of her powers, but this also made him able to think. Hey, the witch was also lonely and she saw the craftsmanship of this scarecrow, so why not have someone to talk to? The thing is that after some time gaining a brain of sorts, the scarecrow eventually gain enough intelligence to trick his former master, selling her off to some slavers looking for a good magical whore and leaving the newly free Jack to do whatever the hell he wants. All he had were stuff he took once he fucked his witch mistress, both figuratively and literally (as a sort of goodbye present), and no clear idea on where to go...

Hopefully his new life can lead him to some fantastic opportunities!

Bio: Was once a famous musician who was adored across the land. He died young from an ale overdose as a national hero. Unluckily, a fangirl necromancer revived him and forced him to marry her. They lived in solitude for years until the necromancer wife told him to get a job to support her or he would be forced to live in even more agony. He became an Evil Bard for the Dungeon Master, and changed his name to what he thought was a cool Evil Bard name.
Turn-ons: Sexy stuff. He's not that picky. He primarily likes girls, but doesn't mind mixing it up once in a while if the Dungeon Master is up for it.

-Platinum Music Sheet (HIs most prized possession, the ultimate representation of his musical genius. He keeps it stashed in his shirt as a lucky charm. He unknowingly gives himself greater chest protection from doing so.)

Bio: Victor was once a simple farmer. Until the day something stole into his barn on a cold night. There he found a monster tearing his horses limb from limb. It fled when it noticed him, but not before its claws tore a grizzly wound into his shoulder. He passed out from blood lose within moments assuming he would never wake up. Remarkably he did awaken the next morning to find the wound was gone leaving only the faintest scar. A few days later the creature was strung up in front of town. Monster hunters had found it. Word spread that they had killed the local blacksmith who'd been grazed by the thing. The adventurers were still hanging around, and Victor was concerned they were looking for others the beast had hurt to do the same.

He decided to flee his home, but one of the adventurers had noticed his nervousness. Victor didn't notice he was being followed as he traveled. One evening the man came upon him. He thought he was done for until the full moon came up. Victor woke up the next morning to find the hunter eviscerate. He knew then that he could never live a quiet life again. What he needed now was a place where his bestial nature wouldn't be looked down upon.

Bio: Junko grew up in the wild, but she would always come in close contact with civilisation, hse quickly learned their ways of communication through observation. She quickly began to interact with those who ventured into the woods. After awhile she would gain their trust before killing them when they thier back turned. She didnt like people... not even a little, but she could certainly pretend too, very well infact. Sociopaths are always the best at being social afterall. She eventually left that town and ventured out trying her best to cause havoc, killing nobles, and doing the occasional assanation for cash, that was until she got hired by a Dungeon Master. She took intrest in the oppirtunity to do two things she loved, kill people and make money and took the offer.

Bio:

A former Damsel in Distress, Valeria got tired of heroes getting handsy after a rescue or expecting her to reciprocate affection for them. Noticing a position being advertised at a new dungeon, she stoved in the skull of the next hero to grope with a frying pan and packed her bag.

Valeria now multi-classes as a Bar Wench, working at the nearby tavern in town. Her role to drop hints to traveling heroes of about the dungeon and gather information about the heroes so her co-workers are better prepared. At times, or if the group of heroes seems uninterested, she gets conveniently kidnapped from the tavern to play her old role of Damsel in Distress.

Bio: A creature native to underground caverns, Argug grew up in a small tribe of roaming warriors and bandits, raiding and pillaging to get by. She's not evil, per say, but has no morality nor care for the ramifications of her actions. At the end of the day, a good brawl is all she wants and needs, she doesn't care for who she fights, as long as they point her in the general direction of someone who needs a good smashing. Argug not only has two braincells to rub together, she has three! What she has in might she lacks in intelligence. The worth of gold and other shiny things she understands, but reading anything complex is beyond her. Either way, you tend not to need to be smart when you're over 7 feet tall and have a big club.

Species: Human Anti-paladin.

Bio: Azerat was born a normal boy. But he was destined for greatness, when his entire village got plundered and destroyed by an orc raid, he survived by hiding. When the local adventuring party found him, they dropped him off at a temple. There he was trained to become a paladin, and he was driven by a desire for revenge. He was taught combat skills, and everything else one would expect from a holy champion. Secretly, he began to hate his new life. Constantly, the priests and paladins of the temple tried to reign him in. They didn’t want Azerat to become too powerful. And they never let him go to search for the orcs that killed his friends and family. In the night, Azerat learned about the dark powers from the library, and after a great temple festival, he killed all the drunken paladins and clerics. Afterwards, the dark champion ravaged the surrounding lands, committing numerous atrocities. He is sluggish in his heavy armour, but when he reaches his enemy, there are few that dare stand before him, and even fewer who survive the event.
Turn-ons: What gets your little fiend's motor running? Azerat is very very evil. He likes to rape, plunder and loot. He is not that subtle, and delicate love-making isn’t his forte. He is a sadist at heart, and sometimes likes to torture his poor victims, although he isn’t that creative in his methods.
Turn-offs: What turns your character cold? The dark champion doesn’t fancy scatplay and necrophilia. And orcs, he hates orcs.

Battlecry (taunt) - Azerat lets out a terrifying roar, amplified by his traces of dark magic. This makes him seem even more dangerous than he really is, attracting his opponents. (Assuming they don’t flee in the first place, but if they are willing to stand against the Betrayer, they probably have steel balls already)
Dark Armour (phase shift)- Azerat solidifies dark magic into an invisible barrier, making him practically immune for a while. The process requires extreme concentration on his part though, and he won’t be able to land any serious blows.


Items:
Plate armour: Azerat’s blacksteel plate armour.
Heater shield: Azerat’s shield, used for defending against blows and bashing things.
Bastard sword: Only someone with the strength and swordsmanship of Azerat can hope to wear this sword in one hand. It is just as effective as a greatsword though.
Crimson cape: Capes are cool.
A bit of gold: Getting all this dark equipment was expensive, leaving Azerat practically broke.
