So Re:Monster plotbunny ravaged my brain, and this was born. Kinda.
I would like comments, feedback, opinions, suggestion of stats, anything constructive would be helpful.

In this World... no, this Universe... everyone, no matter how great or how small they are, have a role to play.
A Job. A Class.
Many are born into it, live through it, die with it.
But you... You were not satisfied with it...
Because what you desired... was
Change.

Overview

The setting of this rp is high fantasy medieval: Castles and Kings, Dragons and treasures. Technology is the appropriate level at this time, and can only pretty much go up to steam or clockwork. Magic is known by a select few humans, but they all have the potential to learn. Magical abilities are rampant in many other fantasy species and some monsters.

This is a story about creativity, using what you have and utilizing it an a way that others wouldn't think of to create your story. Every action will eventually add up and cause noticeable changes and change the direction your story will go.


Sleep

All things sleep eventually, and while mundane, it serves a purpose in this universe: It allows the experiences of the day cumulate into new classes, skills, or even allows your character to be reborn.
Most of the system is automatic, however, during important transitions, you are allowed the choice of staying as you are, or taking a plunge into the unknown.

The decision should be PMed to me and I'll integrate the decision into the next post.

On more than one occasion, just before one falls asleep, on the edge of their consciousness, they may hear a simple question.
How one answers may change the path they take.


Classes, Class Mutation and Evolution

All intelligent existences have a Class, and are often born into it. A Class is a title that essentially summarizes that being's entire life experiences. A farmer would only know farming, and a King would only know command. However, when someone focuses on an aspect that defines their class, that can create the possibility of a class mutation. For example, a farmer who regularly fights may end up with the class of Village Militia.

Continuing down one's path of classes may also allow classes to evolve, allowing more and better skills to surface.


Skill types

Skills are special actions that not everyone with a class may perform, due to lack of knowledge of how to perform such a skill.
All skills fall within 3 categories, though where a skill lies may overlap with other categories. these categories are:
Combat: Skills meant to inflict harm on others.
Magic: Skills meant to interact with the supernatural
Life: Skills meant to be mundane.


Skill Acquisition, Mutation and Evolution

Skills may be acquired in a variety of ways: Having someone teach, learning from a book, or even using common sense will allow one to acquire skills, etc. Much like a class, skills may mutate and evolve if they are used in ways that deviate from the original intent.

Skills are meant to be shortcuts of efficiency, such as the farmer's ability to plow a field or a prostitute's ability to have sex much better than normal people, or a King's ability to create edicts.


Species Mutation

Because you start Human, does not always mean you will stay human. When skills and Classes fit certain criteria, the system allows a person to abandon their humanity in order to be reborn as a new lifeform.
Growth does not necessarily stop there, so skills, classes and even species can continuously mutate and evolve.

Looks good and I'd like to join once it's fully open to doing so. Liking the idea of sleep being the level up page. Only question is where do players start, as the lowly farmer or anything up to being royalty?


As for suggestions. Stats in a fantasy setting are pretty much all the same, in regards to what they do, So I'd suggest those, also what limits are on the race changing mutation?

I lied wasn't my only question. Do gods exist like in most fantasy setting and play a vital role in every day life or are they forever unseen and as such we don't really have to worry about them except as flavor?

One question pops into my mind ATM about the evolving. Is it going to be at all linear? Are skills going to have levels, and when the overall levels are high enough one mutates? Or will/do you have a list of different transformations that are only achieved by meeting certain criteria, class and skill wise.

I'd prefer to have people start off as peasants, but I guess i'll allow anything up to a noble. Kinda hard to progress upwards from that.
The race changing mutation has no limits, so your character can continue mutating. Become the Demonic Catgirl Slime Dragon!
As for the Gods, well, people pray to them, some claim they see the Gods, other claim to be their champions, but overall it is difficult to prove their existence. Though Cults of Darker Gods may not have to...

It's going to be mainly the latter, but I may throw in event chains that could give a species mutation as reward. For the most part, it's all about the aspect you decide to focus on that will cause skills to mutate. Growing plants for the sake of collecting toxins may mutate the skill to just growing toxic plants more efficiently.

As for skill progression, I was thinking of ranks from Novice-> F-A-> S-SSS. SSS is probably divinity level skills.
As for the species mutation, those are going to be hidden criteria, but don't worry too much, there are going to be plenty.

I'll try and reword the relevant parts later. A lot seems confusing as hell for me. QQ

okay probably best we stay as peasants if i am honest. that being said, if we are peasants our stats should be low to help put that across and it's through character development that we become stronger and such, that being said how are you going to do the stats? pf style but lower how much we get to spend your own kinda blend of that(just using the names really) or something else entirely?

Problem is, I have no real idea on stats and how to keep people in check. I'm still working on that, but I will keep that in mind.

It seems to me that in Re: Monsters, the MC is is rly rly OP and he just kills everything once he gets enough skills/mutations.

I prefer not to have powergrinding because it may end the rp before we can get in a decent story.

Also, I've decided at every 2 posts will correspond to a full day in the rp. So that it doesn't seem like getting broken powers before your first week.

Well lets see... use the pf buy point system instead of the standard 15 you get for potential heros since we are peasants give us say 10 or even lower.

that's the point buy in system... seems like it could work. depending on how low you'd like our stats to start dpends how much points you give out.

stats start at ten.... have an effect every two points after ten... the numbers on the left is now much points you it costs it gives you depending on what you increase the score to.

Well in terms of character creations and stats Burning Wheel might be a good option for the setting. It has six stats: Will, Perception, Agility, Speed, Power, and Forte. A few Attributes, being health, reflexes, steel, and mortal wound. And A rather interesting character creation system, one of my favorites actually. The DM decides how many life paths the starting characters get to chose (3 is a decent number) and then the players pick from a list of paths. If you want everyone to be a peasant you could declare that everyone starts with the life path "Born Peasant" and then they have two more to chose from the peasant setting or they can use a lead (if you're not familiar with the game it's just a special term that equates to spending 1 extra year of your life transitioning from one setting to another) and pick from any other appropriate setting. Each life path dictates what skills the characters have, any stat bonuses they get, and their starting resources, which determines what kind of stuff they have, like a house, or a sword. Once the life paths a chosen and all the skills and stat bonuses are accounted for the character age defines how many point they get to spend on stats. The attributes are derived from averaging two or more stats (or adding them together). Might be something to look into.

I'm also interested in this RP idea. If possible, I'd like to take part. I'm in favour of starting low and perhaps we all pick a simple class for our own peasants like lumberjack, tailor and such. Or is it possible for us to create a unique class but be permastuck to that class?
