Name: Jonathan Edge.
age: 26.
gender: Male.
appearance:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
Jon is a man with a surprisingly youthful face, considering his age. While he clocks in at 26 years, his face by itself would suggest an age closer to 19. His eyes are a bright red color - a side-effect of his gene's activation - and he sports a full head of golden blonde hair. Standing at roughly 6'2", his build could be described as a lean one, with his muscles taking up just enough room to make him fit in visually with his fellow mercs. When he engages his Data Trigger, Jon exudes a faint green-colored aura, and if you take a close look, you may see zeros and ones flickering within the glow. When in this state, his irises also have a faintly-lit array of binary symbols streaming across them, visible to anyone except himself.
species: Conduit.
power type: Data Trigger (Non-Mutatious).
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
Jon's Data Trigger powers blend the flow of digital information into his physical perceptions, highlighting electronic devices, computer systems, and the flow of data through nearby local networks. In this day and age, data both flows between and is contained within a variety of day-to-day devices, such as personal computers, telephone lines, and the tactical networking systems of the modern-day soldier or mercenary. Hubs for these networks (such as a server room or a military squad leader) glow brighter in his vision, and just like with his normal five senses, he can focus this power to track a single target, or to tune out unimportant signals. Data Trigger affects all of his senses, though, not just sight; if an enemy tries to sneak up on him, and is carrying any electronic device on him - for example, a cell phone - Jon will be able to hear a faint droning sound from that device, which has spared him from a knife in the back several times before.
Offensively, Jon's Data Trigger can be used to hack any device that supports network signals or remote operation. This can render tactical electronics useless for any hostile soldiers unfortunate enough to cross his path, as he can hack their equipment to disable things such as comm systems and electronic lock-on aiming. This also makes electronic locks a waste of time against him, as he can simply hack them with his mind like anyone else would with a specialized hacking device. Woe be to any wannabe overlord who decides to send robots to fight him...
nationality: United States.
birthplace: Redmond, WA.
Group association before empire city blast (first sons, police force, militia, gang, etc): Prior to the Blast, Jon was a mercenary working with a PMC group known as Shining Blitz. Whether they now consider him K.I.A. or not remains to be seen, as someone - or perhaps something - is preventing him from reporting back to them.
Bio:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
Born in Redmond, Washington (the same city as Nintendo of America HQ, in real life), Jon grew up with video games ever since his 5th birthday. The first game he got his hands on was Requiem of the Polygems, an innovative MMO third-person shooter title that blended on-foot shooter gameplay with a surprisingly deep hand-to-hand combat system, and an "Orbital Dogfight" mode more akin to a fusion of Armored Core and Ace Combat. One of the many play-buddies he met online was a Polish man named Boris Boleslaw, who taught him many of the skills that made him an expert competitive player...and also a heavy weapons expert for PMC group Shining Blitz.
One day, a 19-year-old Jon was walking home one day, when a trio of thugs ambushed him near a back alley. He had to think fast; muggers in this part of town were known for killing their victims immediately after robbing them, meaning the only way to survive was to either run, or fight them off...and considering they caught him by surprise and cornered him, running wasn't an option. Recalling some of his CQC moves from RotP, he improvised an emulation of his in-game fighting style...and actually kicked the thugs' asses. Not too long after doing so, a fourth individual emerged from the shadows: Boris. The same Boris that taught Jon how to play that game in the first place. Apparently, Shining Blitz was running low on operatives, ever since a rival company - known as the Vermaak 88 - met them on the fields of battle, and actually took down some of their own. SB was so desperate for new blood that they were willing to spend a couple years training Jon, in order to make him the soldier they'd need him to be. Jon was planning to enlist in the military within the year, and his salary with SB would be even higher than the US government would allow...so, he accepted, and told his family that he was going off to join the Army like he planned. A little white lie...but it's not like he'd face any real severe ramifications as a result, right?
Well, when Jon came home on a period of leave 6 years later, he was greeted by a very, very unwelcome surprise. Turns out, those thugs he beat up before "enlisting" were part of the worldwide Five Golden Rings syndicate...and they didn't take too kindly to him smacking their boys around. In fact, they took his younger sister Jill hostage while he was sleeping, as a way to retaliate, which their spokesman was all too eager to tell him about over the phone. Jon's response was as such:
"Alright, hot-shot. I don't know where you took her, or what may make you release her. If you want a ransom, I'm afraid I don't have the money to pay it. What I do have is a certain set of skills. Skills honed to perfection over years. Skills that make me a nightmare to people like you. Now then, if you return my sister, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't...I will look for you, I will find you...and I will kill you."
As any Liam Neeson fan may expect, the retort he received was short, simple, and to the disgusting point:
"Good luck."
Needless to say, Jon did indeed track them down, his sympathizers in Shining Blitz providing him with whatever guidance and help they could provide. When he showed up at their base in Romania, with his armor and signature twin pistols, the look on their shocked faces was 100% priceless, as was his follow-up on the Neeson tribute back at home: "Hello there. We talked a while back over the phone. I told you I'd find you."
A few shoot-outs and orgies of violence later, Jon rescued his sister, and got her a room with Shining Blitz, who arranged for the two of them to take a vacation to Empire City. Lord knows that after all that hullabaloo, they deserved a bit of peace and quiet. Jon's plan was to meet up with Jill at the Historic District for a bit of sightseeing, since she wanted to do a bit of shopping beforehand...
...of course, the Blast quickly threw those plans out the window. While Jill was safe over in the shopping district, Jon was right on the edge of the Historic District, making him one of the few who actually saw the blast with his own eyes. The flash was too bright for him to look at for long, and the concussive force that came with it threw him off his feet, into a nearby lamp pole, causing him to black out. When Jon awoke...
...chaos.
Rioters were looting shops left and right, rapists took targets of their lust at will, and everywhere one looked, disorder flooded the scene. Jon could also make out a faint flash of electricity coming from somewhere near where he'd estimate the Blast's origin point, though his vision was still a little blurry. When that vision finally straightened out, though, the world had a lot more...numbers in it. Literally millions of zeros and ones danced all around him, and the world had a slight greenish tint to it. When he strained his eyes a bit, Jon could see some of the numbers appearing to fly out of electronic devices; public phone booths, shop alarm systems, dropped mobile devices, you name it. It's as if he could...see data...
While taking all of this in, his soldier's reflexes were triggered by a rioter who tried ambushing him from behind. Unlike those thugs from 6 years back, however, this one required only Jon's shoe to his face, and a prompt knock-out blow to the back of his neck. As the unconscious thug drooled all over the sidewalk, however, Jon noticed a phone in his pocket...as well as the binary numbers streaming out of it like a ribbon. While some may have interpreted this as a mere hallucination, Jon knew it was too consistent in its appearance to be just that...but whatever. Calling HQ back and getting Jill a ride out of here came first, and he was hoping to do just that. Dialing their number, Jon readied to input the 4-digit password in to connect to HQ, once the decoy message of a pizza parlor started playing...
"...no signal? Dammit!"
Shit. It looks like the Blast is keeping any signals inside the city from reaching the outside. "Hold on, Jill...I'll find you, I swear it." Even now, Jon's looking for his sister, Jillian Edge. She was in the Shopping District when the Blast happened, and maybe she already got a ride out of the city...but if not, she's in danger for every moment she spends inside it. He needs to find her, get her out of here, and figure out what the hell happened with that explosion. With any luck, the folks at SB will be able to fill him in on that last part...assuming he can get back in contact with them again, that is.
notes: If you want something to judge how Jill looks, imagine something like Arcueid Brunestud from Tsukihime, but in a red short-sleeved shirt and a pair of jeans and sneakers:
