Equipment: Amulet of Atmosphere - A precious arcane tool in the shape of an impressive, irregular deep blue gemstone set in the curling grasp of an inscribed frame of pure gold, strung from a silver chain. The gemstone heart swirls with white tendrils of wind, and is cool to the touch. Originally another mage's possession, the Amulet of Atmosphere is a rather simplistic trinket imbued with the graceful and torrential essence of the winds and skies. On its user's whim, it can inject thicker curtains of oxygen into the surrounding atmosphere to better feed fire, although its limited capability means it is useful only as a boost for Jin's fire powers.
Jin also carries a well-crafted sharp steel longsword of conventional but solid make, worn on a leather belt hanging from her waist. Its only defining feature is its arcane smithing, which has rendered it resistant to extreme temperatures and corrosion to stop the blade from warping or fracturing under the stress of heat or environment.

Jin was fire incarnate, in both spirit and mind. Born into the heat of a dry summer, she was the child of two Iievyr: human apparitions of the world's elements, cast out into the reaches of the wilderness not by the hatred and shaming of others, but rather an instinctual call to the world's purest places. Superstition and a disjointed society led to them being reviled as monsters the very same as werewolves or dragons, but Jin's parents had spent their waking lives closeted from the human realm. When Jin was born, however, this changed – whereas they had been Iievyr of the seas and the skies, respectively, their daughter was a child of fire: the most untamed and brightest of the four natural elements, bringing change and rebirth through its searing heat.
As the other species' motives changed, and with it the land, so did the Iievyr. The humans' wars had come to champion the flames of rebirth, bringing burning cities where there were once forests. The Iievyr of fire began to disappear – their place in the natural world seemingly vanishing as manmade destruction replaced the flames of rebirth in the delicate balance of the elements – but those still born became ever more powerful... and dangerous. The forest of Jin's birth was a thick and unfathomably ancient curtain of trees and undergrowth, but it had been but leagues from a growing human settlement. The unusually astute and proactive Jin, seeking further knowledge of the humans which began to populate the reaches of her birthplace ever more, began to stray outward.
Despite her parents' wise advice she avoid the humans' society, Jin saw fissures in this belief her young and racing mind could not ignore, and began to make ever more frequent forays into humans' lands, eventually even stepping into their cities themselves by donning more modern clothing as she – like most of her species – was but a human in physique. She learned their language, surveyed their stores, picked up on their politics and examined their technology. Week by week, she became more human than Iievyr, and her captured attention for the ancient wisdom of her race faded. But the pacing new cultures, technology and places of human settlements gorged her appetite for the new world – for rebirth – just as her nature as an Iievyr of fire would have.
Come her teen years, Jin had cut the final rope toward the ways of old. Returning to her home in the wilderness after a fortnight of bunking in the nearby human village, Jin found nothing. Their home had returned to the trees and rocks, and the many crafted functions of her former residence seemed to have vanished. Not a letter nor a sign was left behind, but her instinct knew the truth: her parents had left. It was bitter at first, but she had knew them wiser than this final act suggested. They did not seek her to leave them, but rather find her own way. With a sigh, Jin turned her heel for the last time and left for the human town, wondering what tales the trees of her old home might witness in the future. While Jin's parents had gone, she had found friends in the Fayers clan: a friendly group of human townsfolk who had run their settlement's largest arcane shop for generations.
Many times, they had given her lodging and introduced her to the more complex areas of human society, and in return Jin had assisted them in their daily duties. While they had thought her human, Jin at last decided to relate the truth when she could confirm her own family would not return. She was an Iievyr – but fire incarnate in the shape of a human. But they cared not after so many years, finding only amazement and interest in a living arcane being standing in the midst of their shop. With nowhere else to go to, Jin welcomed their offer into their clan, and assumed the surname of Fayers. For a number of years, then, Jin lived the life of any regular human. Using her powers to assist the Fayers family, she lived as any normal human may have. The store thrived, with Jin helping to create and sell potions, tonics, spell scrolls, artifacts and even extremely rare elemental salts valued for their arcane properties.
She forgot about the past before long, thinking of herself as human and little more.
But, come the day when she elected for a rather dangerous journey across the face of the land, that seemed to have changed. Jin carries no goods to sell, and little gold to trade with, but joining the caravan, she titled herself a merchant.
Though naturally, she has to reach her destination first.
