Embrace your dark fate."Wake up."The masked figure chucked a bundle of dry sticks into the campfire, causing the flames to roar with a sudden fury. Which also had the added effect of waking every person sleeping around the campfire. The group's eyes settle on the hooded figure, his face hidden behind a metal mask. The most noticeable thing about this mysterious man was that the shadows..seemed to be flowing around him, his own silhouette twisting here and there in the flickering light of the fire. Blood seeped from several wounds on his body. Wounds that would've been mortal to any human man. Yet this masked man simply sat there upright, as if everything was fine..
"I am known as Stryder. I am certain you remember what has just happened, even if you do not want to believe."Stryder paused, taking a labored breath. His wounds were obviously affecting him, even if he didn't show it. Another cloaked figure stepped out from a shadow, placing a hand on Stryder's forearm in concern. The group could see that the figure was obviously female, smaller with a lithe frame.
"I'll be fine. Just need to give the magic some time, Lyn."He nodded to the girl and she stepped back into the shadows. The shadows around Stryder curled around his wounds and they closed slowly..
"All of you have seen the monstrosities that attacked your group. All of you were travelling together for reasons that I have no wish to know. I have saved as many as I could and all of you are what that is left."He swept an arm across, gesturing to the clearing behind the group. Corpses littered the ground with flaming wreckage of the carriages that the group had been travelling in..corpses, both human and monster..
"All of you have not escaped unscathed from this encounter. The demons..yes, they exist. Your proof are those corpses among your fallen companions. All of you have sustained a wound from the demons, mental or physical, it does not matter. This wound has established a link between you and Hell. Monsters that make your nightmares seem like stuffed toys will come. I hunt them, but I am only one man..and I am old."Stryder coughed violently, cursing with pain as a few of his recently healed wounds reopened with the motion. The shadows wrapped around his wounds again, eager to patch their master up.
"I require assistance. Assistance that you may have no choice but to reluctantly provide. Those wounds will forever leave their mark on you and believe me, they will draw the demons closer and closer as long as you draw breath or are unturned. But don't worry about that second consequence. If you turn, you will have me to worry about.." Stryder leaned forward, his metal mask shining in the firelight. He extended a hand towards the group.
"Embrace your dark fates as I have and join my struggle for humanity."There was an awkward pause as Stryder waited for their answers. Lyn stepped up and whispered in Stryder's ear.
"Oh, right. I forgot. Probably a good time to mention I'm half-demon."Setting.
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
The country where Dark Fates take place is known as Strias, covered in nature. Lakes and rivers dot the country so there isn't much concern for water. The capital of the country is where the king and his queen lives, the Saviore Castle. The basement of the Saviore Castle is the HQ of the Guild. In the freezing north lay the Frostpeaks, a range of icy mountains so high that Strias is completely cut off from neighboring countries. The technology of this country's weaponry is up to crossbows. There are only humans in this realm. Magic is rare in the human race, only a blessed few being born with the natural innate ability to use magic. However, while a person might not be able to use magic, they can still certainly use or create magical items, if the materials and knowledge are available to them.
You are one of the Hunters, a Guild of soldiers specialized in taking down the demonic threat against Strias.
Rules and other stuff. Read this.
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
First off and most important, I reserve the right to reject and accept anyone that I want to. Second, NO ONE-LINERS. This is self-explanatory, but if you're even in this, I doubt you'll be writing one-liners. Space in this RP will be limited due to time constraints that I have..to maybe about six people. I may allow more people in, but we'll see. Lastly, this is a RP created with Napsii's constant buggeration, so she may be co-GMing this. I dunno.
Mechanics of the Demon's Deck. READ.
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
I will be introducing a new mechanic that is purely luck based. I will draw a single playing card to determine combat, defense and healing. Healing is basically combat backwards.
Demon's Deck.
The name of the mechanic I will be using, this involves me drawing a single random card from a deck of playing cards, Jokers included. The number that you draw will be multiplied by five to do the total amount of damage. The card rankings will be in this order. Joker,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, Jack11, Queen12, King13 and Ace. All cards besides numbers will have extra effects. The suit of the card you draw will also be affect depending on which suit you select.
Suits.
Spade: Known as the favored suit of the gambler, your damage will be tripled if you manage to draw above a 7.
Heart: A heart's compassion. Your healing spells' effects will be doubled.
Club: Overbearing as the clubs of olden times, you will completely smash through your opponent's defense and armor.
Diamond: The hardest material ever found, you will take after the namesake of the suit and totally nullify damage if you manage to draw it for your defense.
Card Effects.
Ace In The Hole: Double damage.
King's Wrath: Your attack cleaves through your enemies, hitting up to three targets.
Queen's Grace: Heals you or a person of your choosing for 50 Health
Jack's Luck: Enemies will not be able to attack you for that turn.
Joker's Trick: You will not be able to attack or defend during that turn.
Corruption
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
You will take on corruption if you are defeated by demons. Reach 100% and you will be lost to the demons, to become one of them. Stryder will personally hunt you down. Corruption is your second chance of sorts in this RP. If you die as a demon, it will be by the hunters' hands and it will be permanent. Corruption will slowly fade with time, at 1% per turn.
5% of Corruption is gained depending on how many enemies you were damaged or raped by. An example, if three imps raped you, you gain 15% Corruption with every turn.
Bosses will inflict 15% Corruption if damaged by them.
Corruption is mainly carried out through spreading demonic taint, an energy that seeps in only either through bodily fluids or flesh wounds. Bruises or simple blunt force trauma will not inflict Corruption.
If you give yourself to the Corruption, you will be Corrupted instantly.
The Corrupted
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
There are two varieties of Corrupted. Lesser and Greater. Lesser Corrupted are exactly what they sound like, the weaker variation of Corrupted. They do not retain their once-human intelligence from before and they take on the appearance of a usual demon, with red scaly skin and a pair of horns along with a tail.
The Greater Corrupted, however, maintain their human intelligence and sanity, gaining a massive boost of speed, strength and overall combat ability. They gain the ability to use magic, too. Greater Corrupted remain just as what they looked like as human, but their eyes will blaze a fiery red if any particular source of emotion affects them. Still, that dark aura that tends to hang around them usually marks them out from normal humans..
History
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
The world as you see it now, with Humans, Demons and the rarely-mentioned Divines wasn't always this way. The world originally was created by the two great Demon brothers, Aridan and Guileastes. The world never had Humans in the beginning. It all started with Demons. As the time passed on and Aridan grew discontent with ruling an unpopulated world, he created several Demons, the first other than Aridan and Guileastes. These demons populated the world and eked out their lives, content with whatever they had, unlike most of the current demons today. In a way, these first demons could be considered the most human-like. Both Aridan and Guileastes watched upon the demons with interest. Interest that Aridan once again did not hold. He loved strength, and so as the ruler of the realm, he decreed that the demons would all take a side each and slaughter each other. Guileastes objected violently with this reasoning and Aridan's challenge was that he choose a side and meet him in combat. Whoever was won would be right. Guileastes accepted and chose a side, renaming themselves the "Divines".
The two sides, Demons and Divines eventually met in combat. Guileastes promoted peace and mercy, his Divines doing the same, but the Demons had no such qualms. The Divines were mercilessly slaughtered. Only a handful of Divines managed to escape the bloodbath. Guileastes met in combat with Aridan, but he knew it was a fight that he would lose. Aridan was by far more bloodthirsty and merciless, and Guileastes had no such desire to murder his own brother.
Instead, he invoked magics so ancient that even Aridan himself had forgotten about them. The ritual was simply named "Banishment". It was with a silver sword that Guileastes drew his own blood, required to banish Aridan into the domain named "Underworld". The blood ritual had it's side effects as well, sealing Guileastes into a smaller, weakened form. The first true human and half-demon. Upon Aridan's banishment, the rest of the Demons went back to their usual lives. The Demons on Aridan's side were weakened greatly, some of them banished with their master and some of them just simply losing their powers. These demons would go on to become the first humans. The Divines were never seen again, but it was said that less than five of them had survived.
With Guileastes sealed in his human form, he decided upon a finality. The spell had banished Aridan from this world for now, but it was temporary. Aridan would eventually return, and he would not be delayed by petty tricks. The silver sword that had drew both his blood and banished Aridan signified something. Guileastes' own Dark Fate, the sacrificing of sealing himself in exchange for the world's safety. Guileastes made a decision then. He impaled Dark Fate into the ground just in front of him. The first human to draw the blade without waking him would have his assistance for saving humanity...
Stryder awoke years, decades, perhaps centuries later. A woman standing before him held Dark Fate in her hand..and thus, it was time. Time to train a generation of humans and demons that would ultimately kill him after he had finally ended Aridan with his own hands.
