You're determined to put me as a whiteshield, arn't you :P

Scout on VBS is where I'd rather be. But, if you want to go 'modern 40K' instead, then Sentinel pilot.

Sorry my post didn't go through so i remade it by copy pasting, forgot it. I'm cool with whatever, you said biker I am down with that. Just waiting for any last stragglers, need to get the amount down since once I start I am not stopping at this point. Though six is almost already at my limit. After that comes setting, Napsii's character is going to take the most effort to write in, and it's going to be a pain putting all of you in the same area with 4 different branches =P. Might even end up being an inquisitor warband at this point.

Inquisitor warband is fine, but there are the options of a tactical kill team/commando squad being pulled together from various branches of an existing army, which may or may not be one that has been made by folding several under-strength forces gether within an active warzone. Or maybe even survivors, as a variation of that, under the temporary command of the Commissar with the destination of rejoining the main force.

As I understand it, the IG generally run with large formations of men, and rely mainly on strength of numbers, but specialist units can evolve over the course of a campaign, or even be put together for specialist actions, before getting dispanded afterwards. Then, of course, there are the suicide missions that just have a bunch of unlucky people grouped together and sent off. Also, given that the Administratum is directly responsible for logistics (and shit at the job, I might add!), it's not beyond the reals of possability that units get mis-assigned to a sector

It's 40k, think stubborn adherence to wwi trench war-fare combined with russian commissars, as well as the administration to get everything wrong. It's possible don't me wrong, but right now I have no plans =P. Waiting on stragglers until 12 my time then going to set up bio templates and settings.

Well then, now that I dragged my feet long enough that anyone who actually gave two shits about this has probably not only posted in here but voiced (her)his opinions on what it is (s)he wants to be when (s)he grows up (the female emphasis for a certain pain in my side who I want to like, but makes it oh so hard to love these days). So that being said time to start up this bad boy by getting some character bios in place.

Remember this will be finalized, kinda, once the role playing starts. The game is free-form, I am not planning to murder anyone unless they ask me to murder them. NPC's and people relevant in your life however are fair game, and I plan to enjoy desecrating them.

Your Name;
Your Age*;
Your dream profession**;
Anything else you want to include;
Appearance;
Family History***;
Edit; durrr gender;

Unless you want to start off as a military person (as opposed to growing into one) please be aware you will be older when the time skip does occur. This could put you past your prime or make you less cool. As a game master, with no plan except to murder everything in sight and make it grim dark, I recommend starting off as a kid. If any of you want to start off as buddy-buddies, let me know since it will affect how I murder your past.

* Once again expect a time skip of about ten years. If you are 9, you will be 19 later on.
**NAPSIIIIIII KEEP YOURS HIDDEN K? GRIMDARK SECRETS ARE GRIMDARK
***Let me know about your parents, especially the people that want to be specialized characters like commissars. This is important in the plot, and if you do not make any provisions for it I will do it for you, and you may or may not like it.

OK WITH THAT OUT OF THE WAY;

I dedicate this to Napsii, who is making me get off my lazy ass and ACTUALLY DO WORK.

A basic primer on the setting, which will continue to develop once the role-playing starts, but is relevant during character creation for those with special background. The setting is going to take place in the segmentum solar, which in the history/setting of 40k is essentially our little slice of the galaxy where Terra (the mighty capital of the imperium is located and your god emperor, his name be hallowed *sign of the Aquila against his chest*) is located. We are to the extreme north of it, above the eye of terror with the Cadian gate at the far opposite. That is to say, it's a backwater world within this area, that is on the edge of the influence of the biggest continual tear in the parallel plane known as the warp, where the forces of chaos and daemons like to rush in and run amock. Heresy is closely monitored, yet even then shit happens.

The world upon which you start is an interesting one, and you may choose to be a native to this humble slab of rock that does nothing more than serve the imperium with gusto as any upholding citizen would do. This world is equal parts manufactorum, a forge world of great importance, and equal parts space port. The planet's name is Fair-Frozen, a perpetual ice planet floating lazily around a dwarf sun.

It's surface is one that is scarred by years of manufacturing the arms necessary to the very survival of the imperium, and to that of important strategic sites such as the cadian gate. This planet never sleeps, the sky blotted by perpetual smog of heavy industry. Everything is made here, from the lowly shovel to the mightiest of tanks. There are 80 billion people living on this forge world, among chains of hive cities along a great crack in it's surface. The hives span hundreds of miles into the sky, going up and above the perpetual gases, to reach up to the stars, space elevators being their only competition (that wins). The chasm is affectionately known as the cat's eye, a trench so long, and so full of activity that its perpetual light is seen from the space. There is also a decent garrison of soldiers, something necessary to protect an important world so close to the eye of terror.

Most people work tedious jobs, slaving away at the assembly lines for 18 hour shifts, 6 days a week. Others are more fortunate, nobles in the highest of spires, their ever important game of flirting in the political side of the world, debating who gets what contracts as given by the adeptus mechanicus and the imperial guard. However like any hive world, it is built upon the ancient ruins of thousands of years of civilization, the further down you go, the more lawless it becomes, with renegades stalking the streets in roving gangs that fight to reclaim lost technology and materials which they in turn sell to the the upper-hivesmen.

That is the basic primer. Remember, don't get too attached to anyone and have fun :O?

edit; if you want sex go for it, just be aware that if you say "rape" it's not going to be the "oh i kinda don't like it and now I do" type. If you want sex between the characters, go for it, just don't get caught with your pants down.

Your Name: Ishiko
Your Age: 20
Gender: Female
Dream Profession: ???

Family History: Another trio of faces in the crowds of Fair-Frozen, having lived for generations in the urban scars polluting the face of the planet. Perhaps having been knit into the upper-class of the Imperium generations ago only to fall into near-poverty, the recent generations of Ishiko's family have survived in their native forge world's underhive, holed up in a tight-wallet, unheated apartment that has withstood enough years of abuse to be counted as a family heirloom. With food being scarce and a life of crime being off the table due to what morals remained, her mother scraped out a living from hours of thankless service in a munitions factory as her father -- of self-taught medical talents, a necessity to pass onto ones' children when doctors were always out of reach -- renovated a gutted room across the underhive to service the local populace.

The act of being humanitarian was dangerous, especially on a hive where a handshake was more likely to be returned with a gunshot and your door crashed in to salvage whatever food or materials you had so treasured, but human faith was stubborn. As meager infections and starvation claimed lives, a center of gravity for good -- for tranquility -- in her area of the underhive became an idea too strong not to bring to reality. Food and medical equipment was stockpiled, furniture salvaged to service those who simply wanted a brief reprieve, and water kept on tap. In that room, in one of the Imperium's great forge worlds, praise for the Emperor and the lordly officials that had promised to save them had long run dry. Day in and day out, the injured and those in need of advice flocked in and out of this reprieve -- this chapel, in a sense -- even if it could not save their lives.

She and her father came to adopt robes to identify them in a crowd. Not an act of egotism, but rather another sacrifice on the behalf of others; now they had branded themselves as pillars, and although few praised the Emperor, paranoia for cultists and heretics still ran deep.

But it was not just that which ended Ishiko's family. Their daughter was different, and so it could never last.

You must first have your parents executed, go stand in the "waiting to be orphaned" line. It's next to Napsii or ToG I believe =).

I looked for a good image to use for a male, but couldn't mind one that suited. So, it's going to be a girl!

(probably not much of a surprise there, eh? :P)

Your Name; Jika Solovar
Your Age; 16
Your dream profession; Gang Boss
Appearance;
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Image

Family History; Jika was born to Samuel and Kim Solovar in the underhive of Spire 3 on Fair-Frozen. Sam and Kim scratched a living is Still farmers, using what water was supplied in order to keep themselves alive, and sell the rest, along with what edible moulds and fungusses that grew around it. Life was always hard for them, but they managed to get by even when Jika was born even when it meant that they had less to trade.

The first few years of her life were uneventful, revolving around her learning the family trade of fungus harvesting, and how to get the most out of their still. That was, of course, until one of the hive's many gangs decided to spread out it's operation to incrude their ramshackle homestead. They demanded all the excess food and water in exchange for protection. Being farmers facing off against gangers with guns, the Solovars agreed to the terms, even though it meant that life would get even harder for them.

Life continued on and, true to their word, the gangers made sure that "accidents" didn't happen around the homestead, even when rival gangs got close. This was to have the most impact on young Jika's life as she came to associate the gangs with power, and those who have the power are those who control the fates of others. At the age of 12, she approached the boss of the gang who protected their property, Jasun "The Maw" Rasburg, called such due to his iron jawplate. People said he had it as a replacement of his old jaw, which was shattered by an autogun round, others say it was just decration. Either way, it lent him an air or authority. Jika wasn't exactly skilled with gun, and knew little in the way of armed combat, but she showed her determination to join after falling flat on her face several times during initiation and not bursting into tears once. Life had tought her that crying gets you nowhere, and women have to be just as tough as men to survive.

Eventually, Jika was accepted into the Sump Suckers gang, and her training began. Four years of sparring and laspistol practice, combined with gang skirmishes, firefights and shakedowns helped mould her into one of the gang's more accomplihed juves. Her blossoming into womanhood didn't go un-noticed, either

POW! Gang sister of the underhive - youth section is done and dusted. Knowing what I know, it's not a stretch for her to go from there into the PDF or IG via conscription (or press-ganging), and left it open enough for whatever life-twisting events are warrented to occur. Life goals are obviously low, because who in an underhive has aspirations much beyond simple survival?
