I like to look over other peoples facts and nitpick at them and my first post on the subject was to point out the fact it didn't make sense what you posted to me, I pointed out where and why. So here is my theory from all the scifi i've read, listen, or watched.
So for the most part if the ship is design for 10 or less people your going to have a cockpit. Any more people or if it hauls cargo is going to have a bridge.
I believe are ship is to big and has to many people.

Now the next thing is the lay out. Well the Pilot is normally in front but i've scene where they are in a different room (I think it's farscape i saw that. Just a few scenes)
They are normally to the side a bit so the captain can see.
You'll normally have consoles behind the captain on a level higher so people can trip and fall cause brain damage when the ship gets attacked.
Normally the captain chair is in the middle of the room. I myself like the look of the captain chair off set to the left or right. I can't really say what the layout will be.

that's something we can bring up with total when he gets back from his reunion. I remember the back story saying it was a large science vessel, but I like the idea of a seperate cockpit for the pilot. that's just me though ^^
