Amidst the dreary activity of your daily life, you happen upon a strange device, wrist mounted by the looks of it but quite bulky. You take it home with you and begin to tinker with it before bringing up a flickering screen. The word "Extranet.exe" appears on screen, with a loading bar slowly filling beneath. You feel a light zap on your wrist and everything goes black...
Before your eyes an unbelievable fantasy landscape of large, untamed wilds and gigantic creatures begins to render below you as you soar through the air. At first unrecognizable polygons quickly become towers trees, daunting mountains, and vibrant ecosystems. An ethereal woman's voice speak to you from your still present wrist device, yet you discover you are no longer clothed and semi-transparent. "Welcome to the Gaia..." The device introduces with enthusiasm, "World of giants and vast unexplored landscapes. Here you are a stranger, but through time dedication you can become a champion of nature or ruler of your kingdom. The possibilities are endless in this new world, with new rules, and it is now your journey to explore it all." There appears to be a distortion in the recording as an enormous dragon flap past you, the scales shimmering in the light as it seems unaware of your presence. His eyes seem to be scanning the horizon desperately for something... but maybe that's just your imagination. Your course soon alters direction sharply as you begin plummeting towards a secluded alcove in the coastal volcano mountainside.
The voice picks back up as you make a gentle landing, "...ting your journey on the Beach of Beginnings. A place where many of Gaia's lifeforms originate. Here we have a village of Groobles, simple peaceful creatures with great untapped potential." Indeed you see the creatures in question wandering about, quite slowly and seemingly without much thought. They are about knee-high and pudgy with course tufts of fur in random patches on their body. While they seem mostly grey, there a few minor tints of color between them, particularly among the more active ones. "Your first task will be to commune and befriend with one of these creatures to gain your vitally import- *garbled speech and error noise*. Your actions and relationship with these loyal allies will continuously affect your class and skills as the two of you learn and evolve together."
The terrain around slowly fades to black and you find yourself opening your eyes back upon the real world as if waking from a dream. On the wrist device the instructions "Please scan three objects" flash repeatedly on screen, with (recommended: at least one living organism) in parenthesis below. Three empty hexigons are on screen, presumably to capture the information of whatever it is you intend to scan.
