Good what-ever-time-of-day-it-is everyone, recently I have seen many projects started and then dropped. Often I comment on these dropped projects, recently I saw a comment made by a Moderator that made me think for some time. That Moderator talked about how instead of complaining that users could take over such projects, at first I said the thing that holds me back from doing such things and that is I am pretty poor; big surprise, a poor American.

But I thought more on it and I want to learn, I want to study, and I want to contribute. So, where do I start?

Now before you answer that question let me give you some facts that will help you, help me.

Fact 1 - I do not have much money.
Fact 2 - I have a lot of free time.
Fact 3 - I do not have a Windows machine at my disposal.
Fact 4 - The computer I do have is a 2.33 GHz 3GB MacBook Pro.
Fact 5 - I do not have any Windows software available to install and run on my MacBook via Parallels/ BootCamp.
Fact 6 - I can install a copy of CrossOver.
Fact 7 - I do not have much experience in Wine based applications.

Those are the facts. So what do I do? Can I even make games on a Mac? What books/ guides should I be looking for? Applications? I will appreciate any help that is offered.

Forgive me but i really really really HATE apple And i think that it is for very reach people with not enough brain to do some thing but enough to stupidly press buttons like monkey. I am really sorry, i do not mean any body now - but i really think that apple do there stuff only for this purpose.

There are no good programs that work on apples / it is extreamly hard to make ANYTHING with there OS and computers. Every program ask you for money and everything even you want to do - want money from you even if you are its owner and you create it. And etc.. I mean iPads / iphones and etc now. My syster have one - i realy hate it becouse all adminig stuff with this shit is on me

One man on our work have MacBook - it is extreamly hard to make some thing with it rather then watch internet and movies with it - really !

Programs that you need do not work on it ... and etc. So i really hate Apple !!!

Now about the question

If you have not got enough money it is strange that you use mac - windows is better like for me for example. But if you use Mac - what will go for free on it - let us think. All computers can work with internet stuff (apple only with part of it) - but the same for all is Java Script / Html / jQuerry and may be HTML5.

I do not know any such a shit technology that will not work with java script and html. So let us for example take it.

This 2 languages are for creating web sites, and all of them is free to use. All you need is just any text redactor that can save like *.txt - and then rename it to some thing *.HTML

Html is like information how static objects looks like. Java script - is program languge that can create motions of html. Move objects calculate some thing and etc. It is extreamly hard to make some animation base game with it - but it is not hard to make some simple game with it.

Now a little more information. It is not only java script - it is jQuerry - it is based on java script as i understand and it is its libruary. But with it it is more simple to create animation - it have some good standart functions.

May be you will not make a good game with it but even in this situation you can learn how to create good web sites - and it is useful i think.

A lot of projects on forum is on Flash, but Adobe and Apple are enemies as i think. Apple do not like flash so i do not think that you can easely make some thing like that on apple

Just for example - apple make quick time player (*.mov) - flash kills it - becouse it is bad format as i think. And etc - they are business rivals.

And i think even that apple will lie - to make ass to adobe Becouse alot of information that they say about it was false - and i check it by my self. I do not like apple i do not like there politics - and that they do not like flash is one more point to make me do not like them

2 read a book... do something contructive.... IDK? Sleep!
3 if you do get one buy Windows 7 and avoid windows 8. Windows 8 is only creative for one entire day! That's more than zero days!
4 is that good for macs?
5 Ya use java, it's free to make stuff and will work on all three of the major OS

I hear that some people put there macs on windows.

But i think even if you will go to study java or any thing else - and decide to try windows - it is better to try first to look java script and html on Mac.

Java script is not like Java it is different languages, but you will get some expiriense in how to program and what is it like.

On windows there are some problems - it lets you wright programs even on naked windows that you just install - but as you understand there are a lot of bad people who write viruses on windows - i do not understand it but they think that is fun may be. So if you decide to use windows first better to read about it. I think that windosws is much easy and better and let you do a lot of things - but it pays for it with tons of viruses (And for anty viruses you will need to pay or download free versions - but some times they do not catch some kind of viruses). Just remember - do not pay for anything in windows !!! Just read about it and than buy. Becouse some times it is viruses. So apple is one big virus for me - becouse you need to pay for everything

By the way you can even try flash on your windows - first try CS4 trial version then CS5 and etc ... (Do it let you to use it more 30 days by the way ? )

By the way - games are not needed only code and windows. It needs arts / level design and back grounds. So even with mac it is possible to make part of games - like creating some animations / images / text and ideas for that (game topics and etc.).

Sounds like reading about Java Script is the way to go if I try to make anything on a Mac, I think we have a few books on Java Script at my local library; see if I can't learn anything from them.

Well I won't say I'm not artistic, I just have no ability when it comes to bodies and such. I could make backgrounds pretty well, I do have pretty good artistic ability for buildings, ships, cars, forests, really anything thats not a person or animal.

Writing, like story? Well I got that down pat since I am an English major and I am really good at making stories, but would anyone really find a story I might write interesting? I mean, the fetishes I would include aren't really wide spread from what I know. (Sleeping, Time Stop, Oblivious Nature, and Ignorance just to name a few)

Do anything but java script for your first language like Action script 2 or 3... I'd prefer 3 since it follows normal syntax more closely but that's beside the point.

C++ should have a version for macs which you can use but you wont get help.
Java i recommend since 1 i can help you, 2 i like it, 3 make one code and it runs on everything(sorta) 4 Raven should be able to help you.

AS2 doesn't follow normal C syntax from what i've seen but that's a minor complaint and really i have no reason why anyone shouldn't use AS2 or 3 expect i believe AS2 can't be used without flash.

Javascript.... Lets just say that it's the part that normally break on a website for me. Also getting down to non personally reason why; Javascript has 2 variables which will drastically change how it will run on each machine. What version your OS will change the way Java script is run, and what browser you're running.

I really hate Java script and i have just reason. The fact you don't have to declare what the variable type is doesn't help but that's a minor complaint if any.
