Hey I heard from someone that using something called adobe flex and also flash develop can get the same results as normal flash. Is this true, or just some guys trying to pull my leg?

It's true, Flashdevelop is an AS2/3 IDE which is far superior to Flash Professional's, but it lacks a timeline so animations and graphics have to be done separately

Believe what he is saying is that the code for your flash project can be done completely in flex and you export it as a SWF file. However you are unable to use Flash to its fullest abillity because it's a vector drawing program and well you can't really code vector art real well. I believe there is a way to do it but you'd be really hard press.
Basically if you're coding, use flex but if you're making an animation then you'll for sure use flash even if you were programming (you could transfer your code from flex to flash)
