Hello everyone, I'm here to show you an awesome project I'm working on right now!

Concept: Leaf on Fire will follow Leaf in the events of Pokemon Firered (roughly).

Genre: It's going to be a Visual Novel style game with RPG elements like combat, statuses, inventory, money, etc. Done with Ren'Py.

Adult Content: The game will have M/F and F/F content (nothings against it, but I don't feel confortable doing M/M content). The game adult content will be focused on Trainer/Trainer and Trainer/Pokemon scenes (no furry/pokemorph for now). All scenes will be 3D rendered (My drawing skills are average). Animations are possible down the line, but not for now.

Patreon: First of all, the game is gonna be totally free, so you can just skip what I'm gonna say now if you want, no problem. That being said, I don't have much time to work on this project for now since I have to work and pay the bills. But I'd really love to. And that's why I'm setting up a Patreon page. I know it's still very early but I think the earlier I get it going, the best my chances are of making this work.
So, if you so desire, I would really love some support, don't be afraid to take a look at my Patreon page. I'll probably be releasing the game builds earlier for patreons, as well as giving access to a pack with the game images, polls, previews and things like that, but as I said already, don't worry, the game will be free.

This version is just a demo. It has 2 h-scenes (Leaf Solo and Oak Blowjob). The cum on the second scene is kinda weird, I'm still figuring out the best shader options for it.

I've moved this to Creative Discussion, because your intent is to discuss a game yet to be made rather than share a game you've made. When you have a playable demo, I'll move this to the Creative Corner.

Heads up about using Pokemon essentials, if you use it, for get about asking for money, for the people who created it don't want anyone making money of off it.
That was something we had considered also for a while and figured even Patreon was to close to the wall with it also.

Thunder, as far as I know, you can get patreon support for a pokemon parody under the "fair use" law, but I don't know about selling a product. But it probably would still be advisable to create a more unique name.

As far as your choice of programming language, I can tell you from personal experience that ren'py works well for visual novel style graphics, but if you were going to create a map with moving sprites, you'd have to practically rewrite the engine in python, so you'd be almost better off starting off in python to begin with (though there are some interesting functions that might still be nice to have). To put it plainly, pokemon-styled battle mechanics would be FAR easier than the simple moving-around, and you might have an easier time doing mouse-over mechanics like pussymon. RPG maker has the opposite problem: it's designed for pixellated games, and you'd have to expand on it to allow larger resolutions. The RPG elements are very intuitive, but the pokemon-style battle system would pretty much require pokemon essentials, and Deadman already put his finger on the problem with that. Flash would probably be the easiest to work with (pussymon is in flash, iirc) but you'd have internet security problems, as native flash support is being phased out, and the system is simply not capable of handling larger games; hence the need for Pussymon to build many small games in a series. I'd say your best bet is Unity's 2d engine, Gamemaker Studio, or any similar 2d engine. If you're skilled with c#, go with unity.

I'm personally working on an engine in gamemaker studio, but it has a few critical limitations that I'm having to find workarounds for (most notably, object classes). Mine is for the Pokemorph project, which I'm actually the writer for but I've been coding for since the beginning, and looking for a better coder the entire time with no success. If you were interested in helping us escape flash, we could provide the art and story and let you focus on the engine until it's strong and solid, and then you should be able to build your own game in the same engine if you choose.

I don't know if this helps, but there are other pokemon parody games already. I wouldn't let that stop you though. My game has an even more cliche setting and I'm going full steam ahead.

Based on what you guys said I'm thinking about going with Ren'py. My biggest fear is the dialogue being kinda dumb due to my language barrier, but we'll see.

I'm still not sure what I'm gonna do about the combat system though. Probably a simplified version, I think. Any ideas are appreciated.

Also, I don't know how to do the scenes backgrounds yet. Rendered backgrounds would be ideal but I have no idea where I'd find the assets and models for some of the stuff (like houses for towns). Drawn backgrounds are kinda difficult for me, since drawing is not my forte, but I can do some simplistic art representation of the game locations. I'll probably try it out and see what people think.

I'm working on an initial demo with Ren'py to see what people think and I also have a couple more renders (Leaf solo) to show. I'll be posting them in a couple days, probably.

You should check out HumBird0's Pokemon Hentai Version here on the forums. His ActionScript is far beyond my understanding but if you're familiar with flash coding, you might be able to get an idea how he made his engine by peeking inside. It's relatively simple by comparison to actual pokemon games, but it might be a place to start planning your own engine, and he has a pretty decent combat engine.

I also highly recommend building an auto tiling system if you plan to use tiles anywhere. It's a huge step up from the monotonous method of individually selecting tiles to place one or two at a time.

Yeah ValturNaa, I know you kinda told me to actually not go for Ren'py, lol, but I got to this decision more by elimination than anything else. And I also realized I can do a Point'n click adventure style game with Ren'py, no need to build everything from scratch on Flash or somewhere else.

I was really liking the idea of Pokemon Essentials, since it would let me make the game pretty much the same as the original work, except for the porn part, which would be great. But then, you and Dead told me I can't use it.

The Flash/Unity idea, even though would be great, I think it's not doable in terms of time. I really don't have much time to work on this and if I start to build an engine from the ground, it's going to take too much time and the game will never be done. Maybe in the future, if Patreon works out. Also, as I said, I can also do with Renpy what I wanted to do with Flash/Unity. Humbird0's work is amazing, but even with it as a base, it would still take a lot of work. (And I also wanted to stay away from Flash if possible, due to its decline, security and compatibility problems, etc)

So I was left with Ren'py pretty much. Since I first posted I studied what I can do with it and learned a lot really fast, I think it'll work out pretty well. Doing something with maps and sprites walking will be very difficult, as you pointed out, but something more point'n click-ish is pretty easy to do in Ren'py. The only thing is the combat system, but even this I already have some ideas on how to implement in Ren'py. I just need to decide if I wanna commit for a full Pokemon style combat system or a simpler version of it.

Just wanted to post this to clarify that even though it seemed like I ignored what you said, it's not the case, haha. What you said helped me decide too.
