Corrupted Honor- Discussion Thread

So since I got in way over my head with Jenallia's Wrath, I've since toned it down a bit and I'm trying something far simpler. It's a small fantasy adventure that will be closer to the original idea for JW by being a story laced with some H-elements that add to the plotline/experience as well as a few easter eggs to be added later on. It'll feature a number of music tracks designed to add to the experience overall as well as 3DCG work later on (or some other form if there's suggestions and it doesn't require me to spend 30 bucks). I realize these combined aspects will make the download time much longer and will piss people off, but I'm a choir/story nerd so... Yeah.

I don't plan to release anything until I'm finished with the first chapter, so I don't want to post in the non-flash projects area until y'know... I have something to let folks download.

Examples of what it may look like.

It's still in very early development, only has a few areas complete, but I have overall long-term big plans for this project (within reason of course). The main quests will run like a standard RPG, but the side-quests will be sort of like Rune Factory 2/3 or Lunar: Dragon Song quests in a lot of cases. I'll probably expand the sub-quests and include little tidbits as I go along.

Opinions? Suggestions? General tomfoolery?

EDIT: Oh! And there's a link to the blog in my siggy.

The "Sexy Mode" version I plan to work on intermittently might have something along those lines in it (honestly sexy mode is likely to break immersion overall between slime cores, prostitution, and similar content, heh). The vanilla version (Adventure Mode) is probably going to be pretty H-lite in terms of content like that though.. There's also the matter of 3DCG lacking a dog model from everything I've seen, so locating that'll be a pain in the ass (closest thing I've found so far is a werewolf model which might be able to be angled).

Oh, so opinions. I included a poll for those who don't want to comment.

I got four title screens. 1 is the current default RPGmaker title I whipped up in two seconds, 2-4 are just images I found and whipped on a title for in tenish seconds. I'm partial to #3, but any of them would work for it. I also shrunk all of them down to the size they'd be for Ace.

Which one looks the most appealing to y'all? Obviously I can change text colors (#3 doesn't look as good in small-screen) and do some basic gimp-work like adding mist and transparent gradients to it to make it look even neater.

Gotta say I'm liking number 4.

Number 1 looks like your typical title screen while No. 4 looks epic.
Looks cool. I waste so many hours on games like these.

I liked #4 when I saw it, but felt like folks'd take one look at it and go "meh" overall, hehe. Guess I was wrong.

And yeah, #1 is the current title screen using default Ace resources. I've been taking advantage of the map loading function and proceeding to doctor up/spruce up places for the bigger town maps.

Initial assessment from forever ago still stands though. Ace is one of those resources that you have a love-hate relationship with. I loved VX for its simplicity and ease of use while still holding some modest power behind it. Ace has a lot more power behind it and allows you to change more stuff without having to use scripts, but the actual system is harder to manage if you aren't used to the changes.

That's the long term end goal, a game folks can enjoy and immerse themselves in. I'm trying to make it feel like a story/actual game rather than just a project to screw around on, heh.

The fourth title screen looks the best to me (maybe because it looks epic). The first and second are also good, and the third one is kinda... unimpressive.

If you need help with VX Ace feel free to ask me - I should be able to help with most stuff.

Out of curiosity, in your copy of Ace, under Event Commands, does it say "Control Switches...", "Control Variables...", etc., or does it say something else?

Pretty much the same, there's a few differences but the events page is pretty similar. The database was expanded and the way tiles work were revamped a bit.

Is it worth shelling out $60 if you're currently using VX? Hell no. Is it worth it if you don't own VX or find it on sale dirt cheap? Eyup.

And will do! I'm trying to keep things recorded and marked better so that if there's a bug I know exactly where to go, but I'll keep it in mind. Your help on JW was very much appreciated! :D

So it's the same as the version I have. Just making sure, since a month or two ago I saw a screenshot where it said something else instead of "Control Switches" and "Control Variables".

Well, good luck with the new project. I'll be waiting for the first chapter. :)

I thought 3 fit the idea of honor being lost the best, but in the end, 4 just has more cool factor.

All "with suggestions" means is if you think I should do minor photoshop work on it, and what your suggestions would be with that. ;)

Jenallia's Wrath was my first project I tried to do during my senior year of high school when I was working with RPG Maker VX. I began working on it when a bunch of RPG Maker games were coming out that were more or less "talk to person, sex scene initiated," and I wanted to try my hand at an "erotic novel" style game. It lacked sexy H-pictures, but it was supposed to make up for it with saucy text-based depictions, and that it could stand on its own without the sex scenes as a good game.

Unfortunately I had my hopes waaaay too high of what I was capable of at the time. I ended up dropping the project on its head multiple times with an overly complex relationship and purity/corruption system I hadn't kept notes of for tracking, far too many unneeded bits and pieces, and an overabundance of sex scenes from peer pressure (and possibly that I was horny as f*** at the times I was working on it, heh). That combined with losing all my progress twice, lack of personal bugtesting before handing it over to bugtesters, deadlines I set and claimed but couldn't meet... Well you get the gist. It basically became too much of a hassle that didn't feel anything like when I started work on it, so after almost half a year of procrastination with occasional bursts of work, and feeling too much pressure from myself to work on it despite Uni work, I ended up saying "screw it" and dropped the thing completely.

tl;dr- pretty much a failed attempt at a sex game that had a lot of potential but waaaaay too many issues.

Corrupted Honor is more or less the prodigy child of Jenallia's Wrath that has taken everything that went wrong, and is using that knowledge to prevent it from happening again. The story is smaller, the systems are simple (and trackable), and it's going to be more of a freeform game in comparison. I'm working on it in my free time when I feel up to it without much pressure, and the results so far have been to my liking. That being said, I'm refusing to create an actual page in non-flash games until I actually have a working "demo" (act 1 scene 1 through act 1 scene 5), and that likely isn't going to be for a good long while so for all intents and purposes this is an "idea" thread of sorts even though work has been made. :D

It also just happens to be the same world that The Wastelands are in, taking place a little over 100 years in the future.

That seems to be the general consensus. I liked all of 'em, so I figured I'd put it up to the polls to see what people liked the best!
